In a heartbreaking development, a body found in the search for Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison, who went missing earlier this week, has been identified as the musician, The death of Scott Hutchison, lead singer and songwriter for Scottish indie-rock band Frightened Rabbit, has been confirmed by Scottish police after the musician went missing earlier this week, Hutchison was last seen leaving his hotel in Edinburgh on early Wednesday morning, and his body was found Thursday evening nearby at Port Edgar. Hutchison was 36 years old.

Hutchison’s bandmates began posting messages about his disappearance on their social media pages, expressing their worry by saying, “He may be in a fragile state and may not be making the best decisions for himself right now” and asking for any information on his whereabouts. This morning, the band posted a note confirming Hutchison’s death and asking for fans to continue to share stories of how the singer’s music touched their lives:

There are no words to describe the overwhelming sadness and pain that comes with the death of our beloved Scott but to know he is no longer suffering brings us some comfort. Reading messages of support and hope from those he has helped through art has helped immensely and we encourage you to continue doing this. He will be missed by all of us and his absence will always be felt but he leaves a legacy of hope, kindness and colour that will forever be remembered and shared. Rest peacefully Scott.

Much love
Grant, Billy, Andy and Simon x

Scott, like many artists, wore his heart on his sleeve and that was evident in the lyrics of his music and the content of many of his social media posts. He was passionate, articulate and charismatic, as well as being one of the funniest and kindest people we knew. Friends and family would all agree that he had a brilliant sense of humour and was a great person to be around. In addition to his musical success, Scott was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. Despite whatever else was going on in his life he always had time for those he cared for.

Scott Hutchison began Frightened Rabbit as a solo project in 2003 but eventually teamed up with his brother Grant for the group’s debut album Sing the Greys in 2006 and then added Bill Kennedy for 2008’s breakout Midnight Organ Fight. The band’s fifth and final album was 2016’s Painting of a Panic Attack, which continued Hutchison’s artistic openness about his mental health issues, though the singer-songwriter had hinted at wanting to begin recording a sixth. Just before his disappearance earlier this week, Hutchison had tweeted out two messages to his followers that read: “Be so good to everyone you love. It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones. I’m away now. Thanks.”

On her third album, singer-songwriter Jess Williamson is a giant, throbbing valentine, so taken by her new romance that she has become tenderness itself. “Love is my name now / Love, darling” she coos at the top of “Love On The Piano.” It’s a far cry from where she left us with 2016’s Heart Song, a stormy, brutally beautiful collection of prose about gnarled matters of the heart. Cosmic Wink a journey, a reckoning, choosing a path, dealing with it, learning, growing, disappointing, finding, evolving, being cruel, being crueled, wildness, loving, turning toward, turning away, fool energy, finding, pleasing, past lives, future lives, soul mate, twin flame, Home, new Home, old Home, fate, luck, chance, new love, old love, Ancient love, being in love, being Love, being loved, Dream wisdom, death, rebirth, sacred everyday, sacred every damn DAY. Courtney Barnett has revealed the music video for “Sunday Roast,” taken from her forthcoming album Tell Me How You Really Feel, due out on May 18th via Mom+Pop / Marathon Artists / Milk! Records.

Tell Me How You Really Feel is Barnett’s second solo album, which follows her smash-hit debut full-length Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit. Barnett unveiled three other cuts from her new album earlier this year: City Looks Pretty, Nameless Faceless and Need a Little Time.

In her video for “Sunday Roast,” Barnett takes the reins as guitar teacher as various close-up shots of Barnett’s guitar playing move across the screen. She plays while sitting in front of a purple backdrop casually held up by two of her bandmates, who, at various points, sing along, accidentally drop the backdrop and check their cell phones.

Rolling Stone magazine praised Courtney Barnett as “one of the sharpest, most original songwriters around — at any level, in any genre.” At festivals like SXSW, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza, the Australian indie rocker has garnered fans worldwide since her 2012 debut EP. In 2016, she took Songwriter of the Year honors at the APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) Music Awards and was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy. Her new album is Tell Me How You Really Feel.  features Katie Harkin (keyboards), Andrew Sloane (bass), David Mudie (drums).

Courtney Barnett will release her highly anticipated new album Tell Me How You Really Feel.  To date she has released three singles from the record.

She performed all four of these songs in a taped show for NPR’s Chris-Thile-hosted Live From Here, formerly known as Prarie Home Companion .

Tell Me How You Really Feel, the second proper album from Courtney Barnett, the great Australian songwriter and guitar-monster. Tell Me How You Really Feel is very much a rock album, but it’s more chilled-out and reflective than her previous album. Host Chris Thile introduced Barnett with a joke about Barnett driving up the show’s electricity bill, but it wasn’t like she was playing on gigantic ceiling-high Bill & Ted style amps. For Barnett, this came off as a pretty laid-back set, one where she played four songs from the new album, including one we haven’t heard yet.

She played all three of the song released so far, and all three sounded great. She also played “Sunday Roast,” the album’s meditative closer, a song that most of the world hasn’t heard yet. (If you managed to get your hands on the “City Looks Pretty” Record Store Day single, “Sunday Roast” was the B-side.

Barnett is currently embarking on a short string of U.S. warm-up shows, which wrap up in Chicago on May 21st, but she will also play more tour dates across North America, the U.K. and Europe, with an impressive lineup of special guests. Support will come from the likes of Jay Som, Julien Baker, Big Thief, Molly Burch, Vagabon, LALA LALA, Loose Tooth and Palehound.

Springsteen 11/8/96

This memorable homecoming stop on the Tom Joad tour sees Springsteen return to Freehold and his parochial school, St. Rose of Lima  Gymnasium in his hometown of Freehold, New Jersey on November 8th, 1996.. Joined by special guests Patti Scialfa and Violinist Soozie Tyrell joined in on six songs including “The River” and “Racing in the Street.”  Patti Scialfa added backing vocals to three songs with Springsteen and Tyrell, including the second-ever performance of “When You’re Alone” from the Tunnel of Love album.  It has only been performed live 10 times since this concert.   Bruce reminisces and tears up the set list for nine tour debuts, including “The River,” “Two Hearts” “Racing in the Street,” and a rare “When You’re Alone” and the only tour performances of “Open All Night,” “Used Cars” and “My Hometown.” The concert was capped off by the premiere of a song Springsteen had written especially for the occasion: “Freehold.”  The nine-minute number has Bruce recollecting some of his experiences growing up in the town.  It has never had a studio version released and has only been performed infrequently since its debut at this show.

Springsteen offered reminisces about his time growing up in Freehold during the concert.  Most of the concert featured Bruce going through the core of his his normal setlist from the Joad tour, but there were some variations especially chosen for the night.  Out of the 25 songs performed, nine were making their tour premieres.

This concert came in the middle of Springsteen’s solo acoustic tour for the Ghost of Tom Joad album.  However, this performance was even more intimate than most on the tour.  With all proceeds benefitting the Latino community center at the St. Rose of Lima Church, the concert was held in the church’s gymnasium with all attendees sitting in bleacher or folding chairs.  Tickets were only available to Freehold residents.

All volumes of The Bruce Springsteen Archive Series, plus concerts from 2014, 2016 and 2017, are available at Springsteen’s official live store for download and physical purchase.

Nadia Reid’s debut full-length album Listen To Formation, Look For The Signs is the culmination of ten years’ writing.  “Love is sold on the promise that it’s better than any solitary satisfaction, so you might as well bet everything on it, time and time again. On “Call the Days”, New Zealand songwriter Nadia Reid cuts to the heart of this deception: “I was happy on my own,” she sings in a plainspoken lilt. “I would call the days as they were known.” Yet there’s no trace of vengeance in her deep, capable voice, and the surface of her gorgeous song remains steady, as a raga-like drone anchors rolling acoustic guitar and languid cello. Instead, like Laura Marling or Joan Shelley, the self-assurance Reid had once cultivated acts as its own safe harbor, turning the event into a meditation rather than a rupture. For a new artist, her confident grace is all the more remarkable…”

Nadia Reid, a singer songwriter from Port Chalmers, New Zealand, is a folkish, slightly country, roots-oriented singer-songwriter. In the words of her songs, love is dangerous, good things are missed or longed for, and habits last a long time; in the music, guitars twang spaciously and the drumming, when present, moves with slow stealth…

American band Dawes have announced a new studio album, their first since 2016’s We’re All Gonna Die. Called Passwords, it’s due out on June 22nd via the band’s own HUB Records. “Passwords” is described as an album “for and about the modern age” in a press release. “We’re living in such a unique moment in history,” said lead singer Taylor Goldsmith. “Many of these songs are an attempt to come to terms with the modern world, while always trying to consider both sides of the story.”

For the record, Dawes reunited with producer Jonathan Wilson, with whom the band recorded its first two albums. “Part of the DNA of Dawes was shaped by Jonathan, much like your first serious girlfriend dictates how you approach relationships for the rest of your life,” Taylor said. “Those first two Dawes records have a certain essence to them. We were figuring out who we were. When it came time to produce our sixth album, why not go back to the guy who started it all with us?”.

Full band performances, as well as Taylor’s vocal takes, were tracked live during recording in an effort to emulate the energy of their live performances. They also tease a “spacier, experimental approach” on a few songs due to the integration of keyboardist Lee Pardini, who joined the band in 2015.

Taylor also said there’s a “slight political implication” buried in the album’s titled, emphasizing “the idea that something so seemingly innocuous and frivolous can potentially shift the direction of a life or even a country.”

He added, “But more broadly than that, a password – this series of numbers, letters and figures – serves as a thin veil between a world you can see and understand, and one you can’t. That means songs can be passwords, too, because they’re a means of giving access to someone else’s perspective, thereby elaborating your own. Songs can unlock something in you, change something, tighten something, enlighten some-thing, or gain access into deeper corners, and that idea makes referring to a collection of songs as Passwords feel really good.”

Dawes will also be hitting the road later this summer with Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra, who are embarking on their first North American tour in over 30 years.

Sun June’s debut album slides further into focus, it becomes harder to ignore its potential to be one of this year’s best inaugural outings.

On the Austin quintet’s latest single, “Slow Rise II,” Laura Colwell tentatively feels out the palm-muted echoes of the track’s foundation, her vocals gathering strength as the arrangement around her fleshes out.  what begins as a whispered, atmospheric facade tilts into something gritty, more forceful, Colwell’s declaration of “I’m tired of feeling I was the only one” resonating long after the song abruptly evaporates in a cloud of reverb.

Toronto’s Vypers released a new 4-song EP back in March and if you want the limited vinyl, you’d better act quick!, The four-track offering will be treated to a physical release on clear 10-inch vinyl via Fishbum Records.

Vypers play loud high energy psychedelic garage rock all enveloped in a wall of noise and plethora of hooks.

A couple of the tracks are previously released but no matter, “Mr. Girl” deserves to be played at least as much as “Despacito.” . Beyond that, you can also check out the new video for “My Girl.” It was shot on a ’90s camcorder and the band blew their $50 budget on “dollar store confetti guns and gin.” The results are exactly as fun as they sound.
