Kelsey here. I’m sure 2020 has been monumental for everyone and I wanted to reach out and tell each of you how loved and missed you all are ! While it breaks my heart not to be able to share music with you in person I feel that it’s more important than ever for music to be made! That being said, so much is happening in the world of Wild Child and I can’t wait to share it all!

First! I made a solo record and it’s about to drop on October 16TH! Three singles have been released already and the title track “Bitch” comes out on 10/1/20 !!

So far the music has done really well and taken on a life of its own. My song “Highroad” was on NPR listed as one of the 9 songs public radio couldn’t stop playing! I’ll include a link to that and the quarantine music video I made of people dancing to my other single “Making Love” .

I am so excited to share this music with the Wild Child family. You guys are the only reason I continue doing what I do and make as much music as my heart will allow, and your support over the years makes me feel like I might explode with love and gratitude. I hope that the Sir Woman EP “Bitch” makes you feel as powerful/beautiful/capable as it made me feel while I was making the record! Please give it a listen and share!! It has my actual heart and soul in it as my gift to all of you.

We lost a couple of heroes recently. Here’s a tribute to one of them. Just The 2 Of Us by Bill Withers

Alexander has been releasing his solo music as well under the moniker CoCoZandi and it’s also Insanely good. Y’all make sure to check that out as well! Also.. We will begin writing the 5th Wild Child record this fall and will be booking some very special online shows to premier some of the new tunes we are working on! The Wild Child family will just keep growing as long as you guys are here for the ride!

Sending you and yours all the love and light in the world. Stay at home if you can, wash you hands, wear a mask, All love,
Kelsey

Indie singer/songwriter Anjimile has announced his debut album “Giver Taker”, out on September. 18th via Father/Daughter Records. The quiet, sprawling lead single “Maker” is now. Self-discovery shines through on this soft, acoustic ballad—laden with exceptional harmonies and synths. On Giver Taker, the gorgeous debut album by Anjimile, death and life are always entwined, wrapping around each other in a dance of reverence, reciprocity, and, ultimately, rebirth.

Giver Taker is confident, intentional and introspective. Anjimile Chithambo (they/them, he/him) wrote much of the album while in treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, as well as while in the process of living more fully as a nonbinary trans person. Loss hovers over the album, whose songs grieve for lost friends (“Giver Taker”) and family members (“1978”) along with lost selves (“Maker,” “Baby No More,” “In Your Eyes.”) But here, grief yields an opening: a chance for new growth. “A lot of the album was written when I was literally in the process of improving my mental health, so there’s a lot of hopefulness and wonder at the fact that I was able to survive,” says Chithambo. “Not only survive but restart my life and work towards becoming the person I was meant to be.”

Each song on the album is its own micro-journey, adding up to a transformative epic cycle created in collaboration with bandmate Justine Bowe of Photocomfort and New-York based artist/producer Gabe Goodman. “1978” and “Maker” both begin as Sufjan Stevens-esque pastoral ballads with Chithambo’s mesmerizing voice foregrounded against minimal instrumentation and swell into the realm of the majestic through the addition of warm, steady instrumentation (informed by the mix of 80’s pop and African music

Chithambo’s Malawi-born parents played around the house) and harmonies by Bowe. “In Your Eyes” starts out hushed and builds to a crescendo via a mighty chorus inspired by none other than The Lion King. The allusion is fitting: each song encapsulates a heroic voyage, walked alone until accompanied by kindred souls. The choirs present throughout are equally deliberate. Chithambo grew up as a choir boy himself, and several songs (notably “Maker”) grasp not only towards reconciliation between his trans identity and his parents’ strong religious beliefs, but towards reclaiming his trans identity as an essential part of his own spirituality. (“[Less] Judeo-Christian, more ‘Colors of the Wind.’”) There is a boldness to this borrowing and shaping, a resoluteness that results from passing through hardship and emerging brighter, steadier. As a closing refrain on “To Meet You There” might sum it up: “Catalyst light of mine / now is your time.”

Maxwell Stern has been writing music and touring in various bands since the early 2000s. He has released a slew of LPs and 7″s, and has played shows pretty much everywhere including an abandoned restaurant in Wyoming, a mall in China, several squats in Germany and a pretty nice bookstore in Australia. Lately he’s been working a lot. He is definitely not the person writing this.

Check out Max Stern’s new song “Pull the Stars Down,” out today! This is the last single before his album “Impossible Sum” comes out next Friday, and it’s Max’s favourite song he’s ever written! (and it only took 20 minutes to write!) Stream it and order the album on beautiful turquoise vinyl.

“This song is the product of a lot of drunken reminiscing with old friends in new places. I think it’s really easy to romanticize the past which can be kind of an unhealthy thing to do, to just kind of live in nostalgia-world and think that things aren’t ever going to be as good as they were. I think it’s ultimately about developing a healthy relationship with your memories but not letting them rule you. Remembering that appreciation for the past and hope for the future aren’t mutually exclusive and in fact, sometimes they can reinforce each other.”

ATO Records released a pair of remixes of songs from Brittany Howard’s acclaimed debut solo album, “Jaime”. Atlanta-based hip hop duo EARTHGANG reimagines “Goat Head” and Bon Iver brings fresh textures to “Short and Sweet.” The tracks are the first to be revealed from an upcoming collection of remixes from Jaime.

Jaime – the first solo album from Brittany Howard – has been reimagined by an astonishing cross-section of the five-time GRAMMY winner’s peers. The upcoming Jaime Reimagined features fresh takes and remixes of the album’s 13 songs by Childish Gambino, Common, Little Dragon, EARTHGANG, Bon Iver, and more.

EARTHGANG explains, “We’ve been big fans of Brittany and Alabama Shakes so this is a dream come true. Songs like these help us make sense of all the craziness in the world at times. Her song ‘Goat Head,’ dealing with her black experience in America and The World, resonated the loudest at this time. Just thankful to be able to give the world our medicine and heal the people.”

Bon Iver adds rich layers to “Short and Sweet” – a song celebrating a nascent romance that Howard originally recorded alone, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar – and imbues it with a twinkling, ethereal vibe that both complements and contrasts its old-time warmth.

“Brittany is a truly singular artist; so much power and musicality. This album speaks to so many people, including us,” says Justin Vernon, founder of the Grammy award winning band Bon Iver. “To have a chance to recreate ‘Short and Sweet’ in our own image with long-time collaborators Jenn Wassner and CJ Camerieri, was both an honour and almost too much of a privilege.

Today I released an updated version of my song “The President”. It’s a rewrite of a song I wrote in 1986, updated to reflect the horror of the current administration.
It is available now as a download and for streaming on Bandcamp and we are taking orders for a limited edition vinyl release as well.

I recorded this version at home during lockdown, with Emma Swift in the co-producer’s chair, as well as Patrick Sansone flying the Mellotron, the triangle and two judiciously overdubbed 12 string guitars. The B-side:  “The Cross, The Dollar And The Gun” will be released later this month.
You can watch the music video, art directed by Emma Swift below.
Love on ye,

Hey folks, I’ve re-written “The President” (originally from 1986) to try to catch the horror of the current one: it’s my new single on Tiny Ghost Records. Here’s the video, created by Emma Swift

Available now for pre-order as limited edition red vinyl 7 inch, and also as a digital download at Bandcamp:

Partner is the “mature” effort of two best friends named Josée Caron and Lucy Niles. Together, with Rock as their trusty guide, they explore a variety of themes in an attempt to understand the meaning of life.  rock duo Partner have spent the past few years warming hearts with their sly, subversive take on classic-sounding power-pop. Now living in Montreal, Josée Caron and Lucy Niles recently rolled out an infectious new single, “Good Place to Hide (At the Time).” And while we’re still not quite sure when we’ll hear more new music from Caron and Niles,

Partner are set to release sophomore album Never Give Up, and now they’ve shared a new song and accompanying video for longtime live cut “Big Gay Hands.”

Set to jaunty country-rock instrumentation, the narrative-driven song finds co-bandleader Lucy Niles enamoured by a pool-playing woman at a bar — particularly her hands, as explained by lyrics like “And I couldn’t help but notice how you held that cue / Made me wonder what else you know how to do.”

Say the band, “This song is about a wild night on the town filled with queer desire. It is an important song to us because it expresses a feeling we know is shared by many. There are a lot of songs out there about women’s bodies but this is the only song we know about big gay hands. This song is dedicated to the hotties and to those who love them.”

True to the song’s title, the video features hands — painted uncannily to look like the band members — as they traverse a miniature world in pursuit of romance and companionship, complete with several beautifully coordinated dance numbers.

“Big Gay Hands” is the latest in a string of recent Partner singles, Out September 18th

We filmed this special session on Friday with El Hardwick, who directed the and took our press photos, at St. Giles’ Camberwell. It contains us playing “7 Seconds” live for an audience for the first time and 3 songs from “Every Bad”. We were joined by Maria Marzaioli who played the violin on the album.

There was a very special cover too, but it had to be taken out for legal reasons. Hopefully we will be able to share it soon.

‘I was sitting with Sam early last year and I played it to him and asked him if he could help me speed it up and make it less miserable. He wrote the main keyboard riff almost immediately and we were so into it that we listened to it on repeat for an hour before realising that we had listened to a 7 second riff on loop for an hour…’ – Dana

A big big thank you to everyone who’s listened, bought & shown love to Every Bad.
You can catch us performing a track from it on the Mercury Prize Award Show on the 23rd September at 10pm UK time on BBC Four.
