Janis Joplin American singer songwriter and lead vocalist with the then Kosmic Blues Band a more soulful Rhythm and Blues styled band, the show at the Albert Hall in 1969, Janis who had been in Big Brother and the Holding Company had been major attraction at Montery Pop Festival and Woodstock. Well know for her electric live performances and unusual style of dress with coloured hair and vintage scarves, devastatingly original voice overpowering but deeply vulnerable the Filming for the documentary “Janis” included footage covering the european tour. Janis who died from quantities of heroin and alcohol at the age of 27 only 16 days after rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix. of the same age.

re-released for record store day this 7″ vinyl single produced by Steve Van Zandt and a song written by Billy Joel from his “For The Turnstiles” album with a b-side of “Baby Please Dont Go” it featured the E.Street Band and Bruce Springsteen playing Acoustic guitar and backing vocals. particularly on the Billy Joel song is Clarence Clemons very distinctive Saxophone sound.

A new album of covers titled “A LETTER HOME” from Neil Young recorded at Jack White’s Nashville studio and released on the Third Man Records label set up by White, White apparently features on two tracks. Some of the covers are Dylan’s “Blowin In The Wind” the Tim Hardin song “Reason To Believe” and Bruce Springsteen “My Hometown” and the song Neil played at the Carnegie Hall Shows last year by Bert Jansch “Needle of Death” seems to be the trend with Springsteen releasing a similar set of covers with his “High Hopes” album earlier this year.
