From hosting riotous house parties to writing indie earworms like early track ‘Shallow’, The Magic Gang from Brighton, have been quietly staking their claim as new indie stars since forming in a year ago. See-sawing debut single ‘Babylon’ should boot them further in the right direction.

Spring King – They’re Coming After You EP,  out? April 20th currently on tour as support with Courtney Barnett Manchester’s Spring King might feature a singing drummer but there’s nothing gimmicky about them. New EP ‘They’re Coming After You’ proves this with feral garage-rock excellence.

The fuzz-pop drenched and pastel coloured explosions that resonates from Sheffield’s Nai Harvest’s new single, ‘Sick On My Heart’, is a tell-tail sign that the band are making headway to becoming a ‘big thing’ for this year. The steady rise of the duos’ slickly recorded slacker pop has been ongoing since the release of the shoegaze/punk LP, Whatever, which put the band firmly on everybody’s radar.

Coming out April 28th via Topshelf Records, the bands sophomore album, Hairball, seems set to catapult the duo into waters much bigger and deeper than what they were first swimming in. If anything is to be gained from the unequivocally positive response to the news of the new release it’s this; Nai Harvest are a band that deserve to have your undivided attention throughout the rest of this year, as what they have planned may be bigger than what you first expect.

For anyone unfamiliar with Pokemon (all 3 of you), you may not be as mind blown by the fact that Gengahr are playing a song called Haunter… give that one a few minutes to sink in – we personally think it’s super effective.
Tipped by Joel Amey, Wolf Alice: “Gengahr don’t sound like any other band in London right now – outrageous guitar work, crystalline vocals and the grooviest rhythm section together create some beautiful pop music. ‘Fill My Gums With Blood’ is a Wolf Alice fave.”
We took the four piece down to The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town, one of London’s best bars that’s secretly secluded beneath The Breakfast Club in Spitalfields. Here is the first of our exclusive performances from the band!

Catch Bully with Kid Wave at the scholar Bar at the Leicester 02 Academy,
Having interned at Steve Albini’s studio, Bully frontwoman Alicia Bognanno is a musical force to be reckoned with – writing, singing, playing and recording all of Bully’s material. And yes, Albini is a fan of the Nashville-based band too. He told us he’s “rooting” for them in 2015. We can’t argue with that.
Nashville rockers Bully, who were in Austin for SXSW, are currently on a tour with JEFF the Brotherhood which wraps up mid-April. , but Bully are set to tour the UK  stopping here next month for their first UK tour, playing

After their UK tour, Bully will be back in NYC for the Northside Festival, playing the big 50 Kent show on June 13 with Best Coast, Built to Spill and Alvvays.

Brooklyn’s  The Downies are an underground supergroup of sorts. The band’s members play in an array of other bands and various projects, including Porches and LVL Up, and are by-and-large affiliated with the local SUNY Purchase alumni scene that revolves around the venue David Blaine’s The Steakhouse. an apartment that three-quarters of the band happen to live in and the one that LVL Up  wrote a song about . Downies are believed to play incredible live shows, many of which occur at The Steakhouse and other surrounding venues, but the band hadn’t released any official recordings until “Widow” this is the first single off of Downies’ forthcoming EP, and it’s a welcome introductory taste of a band that’s destined to make a huge defined footprint in the local scene this year.  This was the impetus for Downies beginnings and name, says fellow DBTS dweller / DDW-wizard Dave Benton, “All of the band members lived downstairs at the Brooklyn house-venue, DBTS, thus calling themselves ‘Downies’.

The song itself is a short power-jam replete with a noticeably sunny vocal tone, splashy guitars, and an unabashedly song-driving kick drum pattern. Nearly every moment in the song feels like it cannot wait to get to the next phrase, making the track go by much faster than expected. The chorus features hand claps and tambourine that sound playful when compared to the respective discographies of the Downies members; there is a certain open-air tone that belies the crafted studio sound of both Porches and LVL UP’s most recent full lengths. This is not to say that those albums (Slow Dance In The Cosmos and Hoodwink’d respectively) are without breeziness or fun of their own, but there is a noticeable difference in sound on “Widows” that is hard to sum up in other terms.

PINS have unveiled the B-side to their new 7” single release ‘Too Little Too Late’. ‘Hybrid Moments’ is a Misfits cover, which the band describes as “a simple and perfect pop song! Kid Wave’s swooning big rock single “Honey” reminds me of Swedish indie-pop vets Shout Out Louds—which makes a metric ton of sense, because surprise surprise, these dudes are from Sweden too. This anthemic song, which sounds like a gentler Oasis at times, is from the band’s forthcoming LP Wanderlust, which drops June 2nd via Heavenly Recordings.

“I remember wanting to write something with drive, something that would just keep moving forward, on and on like a train,” commented the band’s singer/songwriter Lea Emmery  “I’m a sucker for that sound and guitars chewing on the same chords. I find a sound or chord I like (often a lot of open strings) and like to keep it simple. As a person I tend to write and talk in really long sentences, like I think. But with music, its almost the opposite. I think we all need to float away from reality sometimes, some people more than others. Some do drugs, some dream, some overload themselves with work, some people do all of these and some don’t do anything. This song was written after some lonely years when every day felt the same and my own thoughts like my only companion. I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer and during this time I was probably living more of a fictional life in my head than in reality. But I think it kept me going.”
