Doe’s inspiration came in a feverish burst in Tucson, Arizona, where he was recording with Howe Gelb (of Giant Sand) and spent time with his friend, author Michael Blake (Dances With Wolves), hours before his death. From the opening rumble of The Westerner’s leadoff track “Get On Board,” Blake’s spiritual presence and the inevitability of mortality are threaded through the album.

“This may not be a country record but it is definitely a Western record,” Doe “It has all the horizon, sand and beautifully scary things of the desert.”

Reverb-heavy, twangy guitars punctuate “My Darling, Blue Skies,” propelled by Doe’s wild-eyed repetition and distorted stabs of organ that recall the Doors. “Alone in Arizona” is as desolate as its title, with narcotic acoustic guitar strums and ominous, trebly bursts of electric guitar accenting Doe’s narrative of loss and longing. Blondie’s Debbie Harry lends her voice to “Go Baby Go,” one of a handful of revved-up garage-rock tunes that act as a counterbalance to the album’s quieter moments.

Additionally, Doe’s first book Big Black Sun: A Personal History of L.A. Punk, will be published on May 1st. As an integral part of the scene with X, Doe’s own account of the time will be accompanied by contributions from members of other influential Los Angeles punk and hardcore bands.

Tinged with a lush, psychedelic sound and clever lyricism, Sarah Bethe Nelson‘s debut album, Fast-Moving Clouds, is not just one of the best kiss-off albums of the year but in the past five years. Nelson’s delicate, whispery voice provides a bedroom intimacy to her stories of heartbreak and infidelity. The brilliant “Paying” highlights the album with its forthright lyrics and the vulnerable state of the protagonist. Not all the tracks, however, are downtrodden. On the exhilarating and anthemic “We’re Not Dead”, there is a sense of redemption and hope. It is a fitting end to a terrific album.

The debut single from Big White, These guys are the new up and coming garage guitar pop heroes and it seems like overseas caught onto them before Australia did. Earlier this year the Sydney crew signed to Burger Records (the US home of fellow Aussies (and garage rock kings) Step Panther and Wax Witches. Their happy go lucky sounds. of this band have have been on the up and up this year, their care free brand of new-wave inspired guitar pop is like a big, loveable golden retriever. They like to hang out, make new friends, bring an excited energy to everything they do Okay that last one might be pushing the metaphor (and the truth), but you get the point, and it’s a point the band make clear in their video for You Know I Love You. They then made their US debut at SXSW in Austin Texas, touring across the South West and finishing up with Burgerama Festival in LA alongside some pretty famliar names including Gang of Four, Ty Segal and Ariel Pink.

With Demons the Los Angeles based sisters of Summer Twin might have one of the catchiest and most infectious jams of the summer. A nigh on perfect mix of surf licks, 60s garage and not-as-innocent-as-it-looks pop, it comes from forthcoming album Limbo which is out via Burger Records in October.

Jessie Jones’ new song “Lady La De Da,” off the California singer’s self-titled solo debut for Burger Records, out July 24th. Just a couple years ago, Jessie Jones was fronting the band Feeding People, from Orange County. A band that deftly navigated the void between psych and garage rock. How she ended up there and where she’d go next were the stuff of myths and rumour,  whereas before she’d traded evangelical Christianity for music, by 2013 she’d hit the eject button on the rock ‘n’ roll world for some sort of cosmic soul journey.

Clearly she came back, but not an unchanged woman. This shows on her impressive self-titled debut, a diverse and huge-sounding collection of jangly pysch-pop and mystical acid-blues in the California tradition. Just like in the band Feeding People, Jessie Jones’ Grace-Slick-styled vocals kicked-up-an-octave voice is the best part, though a coiling sitar proves to be stiff competition for the spotlight on “Lady La De Da.” the entrancing song, which begins a little like The Doors’ “The End” and finds Jones moaning to the gods about wish fulfillment.

Performed by Joel Gion, Dan Allaire, Collin Hegna & Rob Campanella of The Brian Jonestown Massacre & Ryan Van Kriedt of Asteroid 4 / The Dead Skeletons.

From the upcoming LP – “Apple Bonkers”, out August 18th in the UK / 19th (USA) via a co-release between The Reverberation Appreciation Society and The Committee To Keep Music Evil. Available in LP, CD and DIGITAL formats, and a limited edition cassette on Burger Records. Album presale starts July 22nd.

Melissa Brooks, and the Aquadolls introduce themselves Melissa has  just turned 19, and I sing and play guitar in the band. I enjoy long walks on the beach and baking and dancing. Ryan Frailich is our guitar player. He just turned 21. He has amazing, curly hair, and likes the band Foxygen. Josh Crawford is our amazing bassist. He is 20 years old, and likes to play Pokémon Stadium, and he’s really good at it and will dominate you. I know cuz I always lose to him (maybe I just suck at video games though). Last but certainly not least, Colin Moore is our drummer. He’s brunette, thin, 20 years young and a dapper young fellow. He’s got the business mind and drives us around. Colin rules. With major influences all over the place! 1950’s doowoop and malt-shop-type music really inspires us. I grew up on oldies, and I think that’s where I find a lot of my inspiration from. Artists like Connie Francis, The Chiffons, Brenda Lee, and The Ronettes are dear to my heart. As far as modern artists, I love the girl-punk attitude of Vivian Girls and Bikini Kill. Christopher Owens’ band his solo work is amazing too, and I like taking pieces apart of his songs and making them my own. I also love the beach-iness of Best Coast and Wavves. Funny you mention “I’m Your Burger Dream Girl”, I made that song for fun for BURGER RECORDS and used a drum machine app on my iPhone to drum to it hahah.

The Aquadolls were founded in Janurary 2012 by Melissa Brooks, who is the lead singer and writer of the band.  Shortly there after Melissa began recording bedroom demos of the songs she had been writing and eventually formed a relationship with Fullerton-based indie label Burger Records who released the Aquadolls first and only EP titled We Are Free in early 2013.Their songs are as sounding aggressive surf punk vibe as they discuss love, opening your mind, hating being a teenager, and even wanting to go

Britney on someone and smash their windshield with a baseball bat. In 2014 they’ve played shows with Jenny Lewis, the Vivian Girls, La Sera and La Femme as well as playing the Burgerama, Burger A-Go-Go and Beach Goth festivals. The Aquadolls debut album Stoked On You released by Burger Records on December 2nd, 2014 and Melissa is currently in the studio working on her next album with Hollywood based producer Aaron Greene. Just be a mermaid, and join the cult that is Melissa Brooks and The Aquadolls.

Not only did we get to play dress up with Melissa Brooks on the set of our Spring 15 campaign but we also had the chance to hear her sing “Our Love Will Always Remain” …lucky for you there were cameras around.

The Dandy Warhols’ Peter Holmstrom tears The Three Poisons’ lead single apart and shines a light on it’s darker/more evil aspects. A sub-bass speaker highly recommended.
