The L.A.-via-Texas garage-pop duo Gal Pals have an album called “Velvet Rut” coming out in a couple of weeks, and here is the catchy-as-hell “Here’s To The Gals.” They look like they’re having fun, and more importantly, they look like they really like each other, which I guess is the whole point of the band name.

Garage Pop from Stockholm, Sweden.Their album “Stockholm One” album released 25th Feb via BURGER RECORDS and PNKSLM Recordings in Europe.Lucern Raze is the new solo project of Luke Reilly, who settled in Stockholm and founded his label PNKSLM after being in UK garage rock band Sex Beet. He’s gearing up to release his debut album, “Stockholm One”, which was recorded in one week in the Swedish capital. “Someone Like You” is a slower cut from the album, and it passes by in a buttery smooth and placid haze. Reilly’s vocals breeze over the music, the guitars swelling around him during the chorus. “I was looking for someone like you/ For now, I guess you’ll do,” he starts, stuttering that last word infectiously.

Decades after the release of their last album, garage rockers the Sonics are returning with a new LP, “This Is the Sonics. The group, best known lately for their raucous 1965 recording of “Have Love Will Travel,” heralded the news with a gritty, sax-powered single, “Bad Betty” Previously, the This Is the Sonics track appeared in a different version on a split seven-inch single with Mudhoney that came out on Record Store Day last year.
Three of the band’s original members – vocalist-keyboardist Jerry Roslie, guitarist-vocalist Larry Parypa and multi-instrumentalist Rob Lind, who plays sax, harmonica and sings – recorded the new album in “earth-shaking mono” with a rhythm section that has played with the Kingsmen and Dick Dale. Producer Jim Diamond recorded the band in Seattle, less than an hour’s drive from the band’s hometown of Tacoma. The album is due out on March 31st.
In addition to putting out a new album, the group will be hitting the road for a North American spring headlining trek. Mudhoney will be joining them at their record release party on April 2nd at Seattle’s Moore Theater, along with other as-yet-unannounced guests, and the band will receive support from Barrence Whitfield and the Savages from their New York City date until the end of the tour.
The Sonics were most active in the mid-Sixties, when they put out their influential 1965 LP “Here Are the Sonics” and 1966 record Boom, putting their own unique stamp on revved-up garage rock.

Grimy meets shiny in Sleepy Kitty’s music. The duo’s chugging drums and crunchy guitars are sweetened by catchy melodies and vocal harmonies that summon memories of 1960s-era girl groups.” “Bright colorful and relatively analog, with leanings toward The Ramones or ’60s girl groups if Brian Eno had taken up the production.

This St. Louis indie-pop/garage duo formed in 2008 and they released their sophomore album in January via Euclid Records. They received high praise for the new record and there were regular comparisons to Best Coast. I guess because they’re also a duo. They say that their influences vary from Pavement to The Ramones to 1940s movie musicals. The song here also makes it clear that they take some cues from 1960s girl groups and the Phil Specter wall of sound as well as the catalog of Miss Frankie Rose.

Montreal Band Heat have been labelled as a band to watch for 2015, This young quartet is treading on familiar turf, starting with Velvet Underground’s groundbreaking songbook and ending somewhere around the first Strokes record. But it’s rare to see a band this new sound so polished, or able to put their own slack spin on the Waiting for the Man template without coming across as overly fawning. The Sound of Heat is the sound of confusion. Tuneful but tone-deaf; beat-down and blown out of porportion. It’s a neat scotch and a mess of a life. You can find it scrawled on bathroom walls, hastily jotted down on cocktail napkins, deleted from your browsing history, lacing your designer drugs. It’s a couple bedroom demos turned into a Montreal 5-piece rock band, Now here’s the sixty-four thousand dollar question: “Do you remember rock n roll radio?”

Drawing equally from acts such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Echo & The Bunnymen, and The Strokes, Heat streamline their influences into a mercurial 3 guitar sound. The result is a stream of catchy, dense rock and roll.
