Say Lou Lou hasn’t even released their debut album, and yet here they are on our best covers list. The twin sisters teamed up with nu-disco producer Lindstrørm for a bubbly cover of Daft Punk’s “Instant Crush.” The rework switches out synth for atmospheric guitar and drums and layered angelic vocals from Elektra and Miranda Kilbey-Jansson. We can only hope that this dreamy cover is indicative of what that debut will bring in early 2015

HENRY GREEN – ” My Number ” Foals Cover
Posted: January 9, 2015 in MUSICTags: Cover, Foals, Henry Green
One of the best singles of 2013 gets a very chilled, lo-fi makeover courtesy of Henry Green. Some fragile guitar work here as well as some very nice but subtle finger-clicking. Very much one for the end of a long night just before bed. Sparse and quiet, compared to the original’s indie-funk, it was great to hear what is now deemed an indie classic (amongst some people anyway) being given a reinvention.
British newcomer Henry Green is the kind of artist who can make a huge impact with small means. The small town singer-songwriters visceral voice may be gentle in appearance but it can peel off a song as melancholy as his debut single “Shipwreck” to its darkest soul.

The folk scene is suddenly awash with duos, but Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker stand out due to their originality; she has a fine, cool vocal style and plays recorder, flute and saxophone, while he is an excellent guitarist and banjo player who also arranges the orchestral settings for their songs. They are mostly set in the traditional folk idiom with material including some traditional songs. Their albums are notable for Clarke’s thoughtful and gloomy songwriting. Here is a cover of the Joni Mitchell song “River”.

a cover of the Cranberries track that was a huge hit,
Van here. Writing from Oslo, Norway where I am looking outside a window towards the snow covered trees on Bygdøy and the quickly freezing Oslofjord. I’m here for the holidays, and its gorgeous as fuck for sure, but I really just can’t stop thinking about how excited I am for 2015 and everything that its going to bring for this little band called WATERS. we have some super exciting *headlining* shows coming up very soon on the West Coast of America. We’ll be debuting new songs that we’ve never played, and making sure that every single last one of you fine people screams along with us on “I Feel Everything.”

SHAKEY GRAVES – ” Passionate Kisses ” Lucinda Williams Cover

Shakey Graves, Rose-Garcia from Austin, Texas, He plays a gnarly composite of blues and folk as a one-man-band of epic sonic proportions. The sound emitted from his hollow body guitar, mildly distorted amp and suitcase drum belie the young singer’s lean frame. He fingerpicks while keeping time with a double-pedal kick drum, hitting a snare fitted into his suitcase drum and a tambourine fashioned to its side. And when he sings, Rose-Garcia unleashes an unearthly howl. Gritty groans and sexy moans carry his stories of both accepting and trying to overcome personal challenges masked with old-timey Western imagery.
