Adelaide band Babes Are Wolves have hit the ground running with their debut single “Wait”, taken from their forthcoming EP “You Only Live Twice”. The punchy package of garage grunge shows off a big sound that could easily have them filling venues in the near future. Layers of guitar shredding lifted by a banging rhythmic drum pattern and lead vocalist Anna Bouras‘ strong performance; “Wait” is definitely something you want to hear.

“Wait” by BABES ARE WOLVES will be released 2nd of October 2015

It’s hard to go any day without another new band emerging from Australia just lately with The Dandelion, The Sonics, Babe Rainbow and  The Murlocs, or in this case Sydney’s New Lovers, coming out with a simply outstanding track.

The latest single ‘Fatal Shore’ from the quartet is a quite phenomenal track, and which comes from their debut full-length, ‘Performance’ which is released shortly.

The third single – after ‘Shivers’ and ‘Step Alone’ – is one which takes on a deeper post-punk edge, and takes its title from the Robert Hughes depiction of early Australia and is a paean to the wide expanses of the country. It feels dark, industrial, with swathes of squally guitars, while Nicholas Elias’ vocal delivering an exciting baritone frisson across six minutes make it completely riveting.

The debut single from Big White, These guys are the new up and coming garage guitar pop heroes and it seems like overseas caught onto them before Australia did. Earlier this year the Sydney crew signed to Burger Records (the US home of fellow Aussies (and garage rock kings) Step Panther and Wax Witches. Their happy go lucky sounds. of this band have have been on the up and up this year, their care free brand of new-wave inspired guitar pop is like a big, loveable golden retriever. They like to hang out, make new friends, bring an excited energy to everything they do Okay that last one might be pushing the metaphor (and the truth), but you get the point, and it’s a point the band make clear in their video for You Know I Love You. They then made their US debut at SXSW in Austin Texas, touring across the South West and finishing up with Burgerama Festival in LA alongside some pretty famliar names including Gang of Four, Ty Segal and Ariel Pink.

The Dandelion weave an old kind of magic. A mix of musical spells not unlike those woven in the 1960’s. Considering the strange case of The Dandelion is made all the more strange given that the name of their debut disc is The Strange Case of The Dandelion,” and the strangest thing happened when we fell instantaneously in love with their songs.

It’s not that the music planted by The Dandelion is so strange – in many ways, it strikes our ears not as not nearly as strange as it is comforting, familiar even. Which in itself is very, very strange. Throughout “The Strange Case,” and beginning with the lead-off mood-setter “Strange Case Opening,” And hooks. So many hooks. Those sing-able, hummable, memorable hooks. We love hooks.

In just under thirty-six minutes, these thirteen tales of Australian bohemia never overstay their welcome, which lends to repeat multiple listens, or perhaps multiple repeat listens. Whatever the case – we’re madly in love with these songs.

Melbourne five piece The Murlocs are in the midst of perhaps their biggest year yet. From the earlier release of their breakthrough single “Adolescence”, the band toured the country, bringing their bluesy-psych rock tunes with them.  Admittedly, I listened because of their connections with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, but from the first song I heard any comparison in my mind was dismissed immediately.

The band have supported Ty SegallMac DeMarco and of course their brethern King Gizz, and their live show has grown into an all out jam you can’t help but dance to. From their earnest and relatable lyrics, blues sensibilities and lead singer Ambrose Kenny-Smith’s attention grabbing voice and second to none harmonica skills, they have quickly become a force to be reckoned with in Australia, and one of my favourite bands to try and catch live.

Whilst the Murlocs were on their Adolescence tour, the quintet dropped in at our Bedlam Records to do a live take of the track, and now have the first look at that performance! Considering they’re now taking a bit of time off until the end of the year after performing at each leg of King Gizzard’s Gizzfest, the live video is even more special.  jump on their album Loopholes out now and keep your eyes firmly fixed on The Murlocs – I am predicting even bigger things to come!

Sydney neo-psychedelic outfit The Laurels have just dropped the newest track “Zodiac K” straight off their upcoming second album . The latest song sees the band team up with the Aussie band Decoder Ring‘s member Jasper Fenton, who provides drums in the catchy tune.

While fans eagerly await new material from the four-piece band, they will delighted to hear the boys will be hitting the road this August for a co-headline tour with frontman of fellow psychedelic act, PondNicholas Allbrook.

Reminds me of one of the first psych bands I loved,  this has a better twist, love these dudes definatly my favorite track is “Buchanan Hammer”It’s no secret that ‘Australian music is booming right now and especially on the garage front. Ramshackle mind-obliterating LP’s have been released recently from the likes of The Frowning Clouds, Straight Arrows and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard seem to pop up with a new album every few months . But there’s a new contendor in the ring, and thats Los Tones, they’re from Sydney, get around ’em quick smart, because these guys are going to be doing a little bit of alright in the next few years, especially if they can maintain the momentum of their debut album.

‘Psychotropic’ is a record with serious brawl, thudding bass lines intermingling with 60’s guitars at a dangerous pace. It’s surf rock placed in a criminal context. It’s slightly deranged, a little bit psychotic, but very, very fun.

Really diggin’ the retro vibes and backed up by real quality songs. Its Heavy, Catchy. Makes you want to move. This is the type of Garage Rock psychedelic I like . Very much in the Alah La’s territory Psychotropic is the debut album by Sydney band the Los Tones, released 01 October 2014

This record thrives on the freak-outs, of which there are plenty.  everyone’s going to have a favourite, and my personal heartbreaker is the melting guitar solos and organ inflections of “Cry”.  Some of you might like the tingling pelvis swaying in “Buchanan Hammer”, others can live off the rapid-fire boogie  of “Waste of Space”, a track that takes Drunk Mums’ depraved excitement and injects it with the soundtrack from a Quentin Tarantino film.

This is a rock ‘n’ roll record, through and through. Every moment is scorched in blazing hot guitar, the entrails of all other genres laid bare in the wake of this destructive album. Some might say that there could be a lack of diversity, but instead of that, I view it as a lack of spreading the energy. The closest thing that Los Tones get to an “average” pace is the charming and snarling “Ordinary Man”, which is still quite the bombast.

To make some coin while on our 2015 Brazil/Euro tour we will be releasing a limited pressing Tour 7″, with an unreleased track, Witch Hazel. Stay tuned for more details, but will be putting up a small number for pre-sale.

MICHAEL This song is inspired something what my grandfather taught as a child. He was a firm believer in logic and philosophy, but also a man with deep faith. He would teach me maths and geography, and almost in the same breath teach me that every human had a guardian, a spirit who watches over them… and that if we ask we can know their names. It stuck with me partly because I was baffled…even as a kid I doubted it. But there’s always this little part of me left wondering.

NOW I KNOW Originally written as I mused on the mistakes I made early in my relationship, this song has grown since and taken on a broader meaning… there are so many regrets we can all have, sometimes the song becomes a spiritual/ sacramental kind of thing which allows me to sing it with purpose forever really because, being your average human I’ll always have some mistake to be sorry for!

RUN AROUND This just poured out. It sums up how I felt in that very moment… overwhelmed, knowing I need to stop, slow down, but keeping busy so I didn’t have to think. It’s about getting caught up in busy-ness as a drug, as a distraction from these deep feelings of hopelessness or failure. Our society has glorified it and I am a victim of the false idea of busy as a virture. You end up missing so much, and I know that, but it’s addiction, it’s not so easy to get out of. This song is kind of venting that self- frustration I suppose.

BLUE ROSE I wrote this when I knew a friend was going through something deeply painful, but I wasn’t meant to know, so I was forced to go on with the pretense that everything was fine. When I first wrote this I was singing it to her. Now, sometimes I sing it to myself, or my daughter, or my ailing grandmother or anyone who feels invisible. Its taken on a life of its own.

THESE WALLS This is also about my Grandfather. At 17 I was living with my grandparents when he died. He was my father figure. It’s written from my Grandmothers position though, I went on living with her after he died and I saw the yearning she had for him through her grief which has lasted to this day. Like him however, she has this incredible faith in the fact that they will meet again and that hope has completely dispelled her own fear of dying.

‘THESE WALLS’ EP will be available Saturday 29th August

Considering the response newcomers Glades have received in just the last days to this, their debut track, ‘Falling Away’, released on July 28th, you can sense that this is a trio we will be hearing a lot more of in the future.

GLADES is the the trio project of Sydney based musicians Karina, Cam and Joey, making their debut in mid 2015 with their single ‘Falling Away’. The trio met in high school and are passionate about combining the melodic intricacy of Indie, with the catchiness of Pop; from the reverb-laden guitars of The xx to the synthscapes of CHVRCHES and the beats of Lorde

Citing the likes of other bands like Broods and London Grammar as influences, it’s very much the style they – Karina Wykes (18), vocals; Joseph Wenceslao (19), guitar / synth; Cameron Robertson (20), guitar / synth / production – have put their own spin on.
Combining large amounts of synth-textured atmospheric melody with expansive electronic production, layered guitars play below the undoubted winning component of 18-year-old Karina’s effectively memorable vocal.

The only thing thicker and more powerfully gripping than the mud at Splendour was the sound booming from the stage during Royal Blood’s powerhouse set. And now – thanks to Telstra – you can watch the entire thing on demand from the opening track ‘Come On Over ’ right through to the blistering version of ‘Out of the Black’ complete with riffage of Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man’.

With just one album to the name, the duo already have a setlist worthy of a festival headline billing and the attitude to back it up. Touring earlier in the year with Laneway Festival they were overlooked by many punters, but here at Splendour they were treated (and played) like all-conquering heroes despite frontman Mike Kerr insisting that he was just up there “pretending to be a rock star”.

Royal Blood’s Splendour setlist:

Come On Over
You Can Be So Cruel
Figure It Out
Better Strangers
Little Monster
Blood Hands
One Trick Pony
Ten Tonne Skeleton
Loose Change
Out of the Black
