Josh Wheatley An excellent 19 year old singer-songwriter based in Nottingham who has a superb vocal and a really good collection of songs . Writing indie-pop with a dark twist. Still trying to perfect the art of writing a catchy hook.
I’ve headlined the Bodega and also played as part of the Future Sound of Nottingham.
My influences range from Dry the River to London Grammar. I’m a massive fan of artists like Lewis Watson, Amber Run and Orla Gartland, catch Josh A week on Sunday playing Rough Trade Nottingham, alongside Field Studies and WHITES (from
Glasgow). Opens at 3pm.

Australian folk-pop trio Little May have announced a new single called “Hide”,

The band, comprising Liz Drummond, Hannah Field and Annie Hamilton, released debut single “Dust” last year to international acclaim, and are following it up with the unabashed glory of “Hide”. It twinkles with fret buzz and the gentle pluck of country-western guitar; far from the shores of Oz, this sounds like something crafted in the honey-sun wilds of Tennessee. “Hide” is set for release by Island Records on 13th April. Their self-titled debut EP is out now. The Band will be at the Dot To Dot festival in Nottingham.

Check out the single below. The band’s upcoming UK/Ireland dates can be found afterwards.

Once compared to a man who wears many suits, in thirty-two short years Justin Townes Earle has experienced more than most, both personally and professionally Between releasing four full-length-critically-acclaimed albums, constant touring, multiple stints in rehab, a new found sobriety, being born Steve Earle’s son, amicable and not-so-amicable break-ups with record labels, and facing the trials and tribulations of everyday life, it’s safe to say JTE has quite the story to tell. His fifth album (Vagrant Records) serves as the perfect platform for such narrations. Entitled “Single Mothers”, the album showcases exactly why Justin Townes Earle is considered a forefather of Contemporary Americana. With his heart and soul still rooted in Nashville, Single Mothers shows Justin’s continued combination of catchy songs and authenticity. The album was recorded live with his four-piece touring band with only days of rehearsal leading up to recording to keep the ideas fresh. No overdubs, no other singers, no additional players – just a real, heartfelt performance capturing the moment. Justin will be at the Nottingham Glee Club on the 4th February with the added bonus of Andrew Combs as support a more than worthy headliner on his own

Andrew Combs stopped in Kansas City last week, and I was lucky enough to have a free night. He was opening for Amanda Shires – but it was his name that got me out of the house and into the doors of the Riot Room. It was a modest crowd, but everyone’s attention was intensely fixed when Andrew and his band hit the stage. He played most of his debut album, Worried Man, as well as some newer stuff coming our way. He closed out the night with the new fast-burner that is “Emily”, listen below.

He let us know that we should expect to see another album from him early next year. If you see him coming through your town, go ahead and free up your night – it’ll be worth it. Andrew is playing at the Glee Club in Nottingham with Justin Townes Earle,

Having formed just over a year ago in the suburban decay of Chesham, South Bucks, Big Sixes are an exciting new force in music. Their innovative take on indie pop is a breath of fresh air in the stagnant alternative music scene

There’s a reason that the spirit of ’60s and ’70s psychedelia is alive and well across multiple contemporary music scenes today. It’s music that’s practically unparalleled not only for its embodiment of freedom and youth, yet also for its painstaking attention to a musician’s craftsmanship and skill. Perhaps this is why The Wands are often called revivalists: they seamlessly project the infectious spirit of the ’60s and ’70s.
The Wands are a Danish duo composed of lifelong friends, Christian Skibdal and Mads Gräs. The Danish part is more than just a marker of their national identities: it’s an indication of the unique niche they’ve carved out for themselves within the Scandinavian psych scene. In this scene, you have neo-psych bands, and then you have The Wands a band that is truly psychedelic, precisely in the way it was meant to be in the ’60s and ’70s. This in The Wands’ ability to simultaneously conjure acidly, hazy soundscapes and straight up classic rock ’n roll, that swells with sound exhilarating rich and expansive, yet also highlights the distinct authenticity and human quality of the vocals and the instruments.

One of the defining features of The Be Good Tanyas is Frazey Ford’s distinctive vocals. As a lead singer, Frazey is poised halfway between folk and soul, paying simultaneous obeisance to Bob Dylan and Otis Redding’.
Her influences run near the surface – you can hear in her songs the combination of soul and folk that fuelled artists like Donny Hathaway and Joni Mitchell, but the stories of her new album Indian Ocean are all her own. The album is, a minor country-soul gem, full of lovely and deeply atmospheric instrumentation.
