the WAR ON DRUGS have just released their new album “Lost in the Dream” and already it is one of the great albums of 2014….there is some great guitar from Adam Granducie on this album

WOMAN’S HOUR live at The Bodega, Nottingham Sunday 27th April 2014 – thebodegasocialclub.

this is a huge song ANDREW HOZIER-BYRNE born on St Patricks day and coming from Co Wicklow at 15 he fronted his own soul band with older heads learning his trade, this is the lead track from his new ep

he has been added as the saturday headliner to the BARN ON THE FARM festival in Gloucester

With a new ep due very soon “Strictly Sexual” the vocals of Chris Kittrell and the guitars of Zach Millian are Baby Alpaca songs with a pop kick, vaguely romantic and using a vast amount of instruments in their live set they are not your standard rock band with Autoharp,Electronica beats and a smattering of guitars

as its the start of SXSW in Austin Texas this is a must see musician from the Austin music scene SHAKEY GRAVES
picks a great tune

to celebrate the start of SXSW here is Mr SHAKEY GRAVES a long term favourite I love his style the Old guitar the Rock’n’Roll style microphone and the percussive set up of drum pedal and tambourine on an old suitcase

deer shed 1

A great poppy guitar band search out their earlier ep and album

Having just been away for a few days sampling the sights and sounds of Denmark with Mrs Mackerel and the Sprats, my packing shortcomings meant we ended up with just one CD in the hire car – the free one with the latest edition of Country Music Magazine.

While there were more than a few highlights on there, the song of the holiday undoubtedly became Breaking Out by Danny & The Champions of the World, from their excellent 2013 album Stay True.

Echoing the spirit of a mellow Neil Young, quoting from Big Star’sThirteen and name checking Kerouac and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, it is a gem of a country ballad that has survived, and thrived, on repeated listenings.

Buy the album from Loose Records here.
