I am almost running out of things to say about London based Singer Songwriter Alexander Wolfe because I’ve been listening ot him so much lately. His style is infectiously good, with a kind of epic orchestral folk sound that keeps us coming back for more. The songwriting is fabulous, calling on dynamics and vibrant imagery that matches the lyrical content really well. He’s one of those artists that you would pick if you had to pick a composer for your life’s sound track. As if this wasn’t enough, Wolfe has also branched out into other creative areas, composing and performing the soundtrack to ‘The Trench’, a collaboration with the award-winning theatre group Les Enfant Terribles based on the First World War, which ran this year at the Edinburgh Festival to 5-star reviews and sell-out crowds.

Wolfe is currently writing album Number 4.. the previous 3: ‘From The Shallows’, ‘Skeletons’ & ‘Morning Brings a Flood’ are available for you to listen to with your ears

Five new tracks each recorded with a different producer: Timothy J. Fairplay, Ghost Culture, Bullion, Boxed In, Moscoman . Teleman announce new EP titled Fünf, the band’s third body of work following two critically acclaimed albums Breakfast [2014] and Brilliant Sanity [2016]. Having always wondered what it would be like to make a record with each song recorded by a different producer, the band enlisted five different producers from electronic/dance backgrounds to see if they could bring anything new to their sound, working with Timothy J. Fairplay, Ghost Culture, Bullion, Oli Bayston of Boxed In, and Moscoman.

The band say of the EP, “It was kind of tricky cos just as we were settling into the process it was time to up and off to another studio to meet the next guy. But mostly it was a great experience, we all enjoyed it a lot. The producers we worked with came mostly from dance backgrounds and some had never recorded a band before, so we were all pushed out of our comfort zones a bit which was great. All said and done, it still sounds like Teleman but each song has a different flavour which is what we were hoping for. ”

The Robert Smith-led band will celebrate four decades since the release of their debut single ‘Killing An Arab’ next year, while 2019 will mark the 40th anniversary of their debut album ‘Three Imaginary Boys.’

Robert himself will tell the story and this will work alongside other events for the band’s 40-year celebration.”

He continued: “The film to which I will bring my own style of jiggery-pokery will use as well as ‘old favourites’ a cornucopia of material from Robert’s collection which has never been seen before; Super-8; interviews; bootlegs; rare performances; behind-the-scenes, blah.”

Shame is a five-piece post-punk band from England that are set to release their debut via the fine folks at Dead Oceans. Songs of Praise will see the light of day on January 12th. This tune rocks and I’m looking forward to catching a set while they’re at SXSW.

The track itself is the first song the band wrote together. “I think that’s reflected in the simplicity of it,” Steen states. A song about embracing insecurity as a strength, he continues, “It’s honest and raw, whilst attempting a stab at number one in the pop charts across the Eastern hemisphere.”

The London five piece have swiftly earned a reputation as one of the most visceral and exhilarating live bands in the UK, their combustible shows being honed through a heavy touring schedule in the UK – including an incredible sold out show at the Scala and a personal invite by Billy Bragg to play the Left Field stage at Glastonbury this year , and recently announced 2018 dates as well.

“One Rizla” from ’Songs Of Praise’ out January 12th, 2018 on Dead Oceans Records.

London’s Stereo Honey make the bittersweet summer sound of 2017, Sizzling cinematic sensations with the kind of infectious rhythms that you just have to sway along to.”The London band are only two songs into their catalogue, but the sheer depth of their songwriting is already creating waves.

It’s been somewhat of a sudden and rapid rise for London quartet Stereo Honey in 2017. Having introduced themselves at the start of the year with a stunning debut track ‘Where No One Knows Your Name’ the band made it clear that they were here to lead the resurgence of soulful Indie guitar music, driven by the solid beats of Jake Black, accentuated by the intricate guitar soundscapes of Nicky Boiardi, guided by the grooves of bassist Ben Edwards and always framed by the stunning vocal delivery of singer Pete Restrick.

Stereo Honey spent 2017 playing shows in the farthest corners of the country with the directive of making sure their name was on consistently on the lips of all of who happened to be in the audience, people who left unquestionably proclaiming them as a serious contender to be one of the acts that starts to rise to the top in 2018.

The band finish their 2017 with the crescendo of releasing their debut EP ‘Monuments’.

The EP features the lead track ‘The Bay’ which was released earlier this Autumn and went to #1 on the Hype Machine ‘Most Popular’ chart and made it’s way up to #3 Spotify’s Hot New Band playlist and #4 on The Indie List. The track caught the attention of BBC introducing and was soon moving its way all the way up to BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac who announced the band and as one of her ‘New Names’ while Radio X placed the track into their evening playlist as soon as it was in their hands, giving it regular rotation.

For their debut EP the band chose four songs which circulate around a common theme: the idea of a Monument. Monuments typically refer to grandiose, classical structures commemorating historical events and achievements, but can also refer to landmarks, places of pilgrimage and worship, and sites of historical memory and mourning.
“We unintentionally ended up with this theme for the EP” the band said “ The tracks are, essentially, monuments of youth, geographical landmarks of personal and autobiographical memory.”

The London/Icelandic trio Dream Wife have a lot of things going for them, and one of those things is their fun, irreverent visual sensibility. Dream Wife released their Fire EP a couple of months ago, and we posted their videos for “Somebody” and “Fire.” Early next year, they’ll follow it up with their self-titled debut album. They’ve just shared their video for the giddy, punked-up new single “Let’s Make Out.” The clip, from director Aidan Zamiri, takes place at a gauzy, ’80s-style prom, with the band performing as couples frantically play tonsil hockey. The band members wear makeup that appears to be an homage to the 1982 cult film Ladies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains.

London four-piece Goat Girl have released their new single ‘Cracker Drool’, along with a dark video. Anyone who knows the band know they’ve got a gross/dark/disturbing streak, so it’ll come as no surprise that to celebrate this All Hallow’s Eve eve, they called on us to help share their fourth and most deadly music video yet, Cracker Drool. Directed by Paraic and Michael Morrisey, the girls strapped a camera to the front of a nice old car and drove deep through the woods. Where are they off to? Well, if our now memories are to be believed, this particular country road trip will likely end with the disposal of a body… but there’s only one way to find out.

Directed by CC Wade, the black and white clip shows the girls on a drive in a vintage car along a country road.

Goat Girl are on tour now:

An album of self-discovery and a call to self-realisation Love Is The Currency is epitomised by lead track Cut The Cord,  A song written about Alessi’s own experience, unearthing fear and breaking free, to seek redemption in mu-sic, art and beauty, Cut The Cord motors on a breezy groove with a host of hooks and enchanting vocals.

“The core theme of ‘Love is the Currency’ is our limitless ability to heal one another though music, healthy love, healing frequen-cies and working through previously unprocessed grief.” says Alessi, explaining the driving force of her new album. “With Cut The Cord, I wanted to make a song that could encourage people to save themselves from fear and the grip of toxicity’s many guises.”

Produced by long term Maccabees engineer Jago Jago, and written in large part with Will White (brother of Maccabees’ Felix and Hugo), Alessi describes her new album as a “family affair”, blessed with the care of many friends and brothers. Jago Jago’s brother Memby appears on drums throughout the album, and Felix White – who’s recommendation brought Alessi, Jag and Will together – plays guitar on the single Wives.

A first taste of her new album released earlier this year, Wives premiered and hinted at an evolution from the folk pop of her early releases, to the more ambitious and abstract palettes of the Cocteau Twins or Charlotte Gains-bourg. From uploading home recordings to Myspace to working with Bright Eyes in Nebraska and touring the U.K. with Jenny Lewis and M.Ward it’s been a long and winding road for Alessi which has no doubt shaped her songs. Her new album is full of very personal tales, self discovery and shared experience, told in a mixture of sonic settings; the California desert, alpine air, ocean sprays and the highland bothies all evoked in unfussy yet expansive production.

A beautifully produced and expertly executed record to excite old fans and new.

Label mates with Fat White Family & Meatraffle, South East London band Madonnatron and finds a cauldron of sinister excellence and atmospheric post-punk.

Madonnatron are a fairly recent addition to the excellent Trashmouth Records family and a very good one at that. The band have already made waves and received a lot of radio airplay from the likes of Marc Riley and Gideon Coe on their BBC 6 Music slots. Their self-titled debut was always going to be something to pique the interest, and it does not disappoint.

The album starts with both the well-received singles “Headless Children” and “Sangue Neuf”. Both tracks have a sinister post-punk/ psychedelic feel. Madonnatron’s music has a beautiful angst and real feeling, and these tracks are no exception, with Headless Children being especially atmospheric. Sangue Neuf, their first single that Madonnatron released, is more forceful, but still an excellent track.

Tron features some fine vocals, making the most of the multiple vocalists in the band the fairly simple rhythms are perfect. The moodiness Madonnatron do so well remains a constant. There is a great, if sparse, electronic introduction to Be My Bitch before the vocals kick in like the voice of the coven. The ladies again hit the dark side and draw you in to their underworld. The track really kicks in as the rhythm speeds up, becoming more and more insistent before dissolving into a harpy-haze of vocals at the end.

Glen Closer has a stalkerish brilliance continuing the off-kilter feel of the lyrical content – these are no love songs. There is no female subservience on show here; The spoken word aspect of Violent Denial gives the track an interesting twist, but even with the higher pitched vocals, the sense of unease that typifies Madonnatron’s output remains.

Mother’s Funeral is a rock rollercoaster with some fabulous breathy-yet-shouted vocals. The slower section only re-enforces the force of the faster sections, cranking up the energy. Slow and solid, the rhythm is pure blues-rock on Bad Woman. More outsider-girl lyrics push this confessional of a song to another level. Once the speed picks up, the track gets even more interesting. The vocals on Wedding Song are more regular blues-based and very good indeed. The track is fairly short, but another gem.

Cat lady has a hazier feel to the vocals and is slower and the vocals sweeter, but there remains a dusky element to the lyrics. Another impressive track on a winner of an album; the song of the siren. The album retains the bite and occassional savagery of Madonnatron’s live performance. we bring you Madonnatron.”
