Cardinal Fuzz and Little Cloud Records are delighted to bring to you ‘Northern Songs’. Hyperbole is never our thing but we need to shout it loud that this latest Asteroid No.4 LP is chock full of irresistible hooks and trippy shimmering jangles that will not be able to shake (and why would you want to) – Astereoid No.4 have created the perfect blend of neo-psych for strolling and losing yourself to in the late Summer Sun (anytime / season will work).

‘Northern Songs’ is the band’s tenth full length record, following up the ‘Collide’ LP in 2018. Here, the 12-string folk-rock jangle of the mid-60’s Byrds is overlaid with the washed-out vocal harmonies of Ride and topped off with psychedelic drones familiar to Spacemen 3. This is a hypnotic hybrid of several different genres filtered through the kaleidoscope of all things psychedelic.

On this new album, they did all writing, playing, recording, mixing and mastering in their own studio. This is the first time they’ve gone fully DIY since their fourth album ‘An Amazing Dream’ (2006), where the band finally found their own trademark sound. “This is a first for us as we’ve always had at least guest musicians or someone else mix or master. It was an experiment on what we could do ourselves and testing our new studio in San Rafael, CA for the first time. Our sound is primarily rooted in the British indie music from the 80s and 90s. This is the music we grew up on, we still listen to today, and what happens as a natural result of our songwriting,” says Scott Vitt.

“Lyrically there’s reference to what is happening both socially and politically in the world around us. We wanted to make an album that brought an air of calm or even nostalgia, to remind people that there was a time, not all that long ago, when things seemed way more normal compared to what we’re experiencing today.”

Considered stalwarts of the modern ‘psych’ genre, they are known for their prolific discography of reverb-drenched recordings and liquid-projected live performances. With a sound all their own and neo-psychedelic / shoegaze learnings, they are often compared to acts like Spacemen 3 and Paisley Underground kingpins The Rain Parade.

A dynamic live act, The Asteroid No.4 integrate multi-textured guitars and reverb-drenched vocal harmonies over an unwavering rhythm section. Their prolific output has earned them a dedicated fan base within the flourishing underground psychedelic scene, with over a dozen compilation appearances, digital-only rarity releases, and multiple singles and EPs.

Named after Vesta, the brightest asteroid in our solar system, their moniker is an obvious nod to Spacemen 3, one of the band’s main influences. In fact, one of the group’s earliest recordings was a faithful cover of their ‘Losing Touch with My Mind’. Released via UK label Rocket Girl’s tribute compilation to the 80’s legends, Pete ‘Sonic Boom’ Kember himself named the song as a stand-out track in an interview with Magnet Magazine.

As much as people want to dance, or want to mosh their brains out as post punk, surf punk, indie rock festivals (remember festivals?) people also want to chill, to sway to post punk and post rock psychedelia. The music of Reverends is dreamy and the saving grace at any house party. The track “8 Million” is such a song. It is by Atlanta psych rock band Reverends and upon first listen I thought a bit about California indie bands like Allah-Las, Mystic Braves and Cosmonauts (at least the chiller aspects of their surf punk sound) or a combination of all three. On 8 Million, Reverends provide the languid intoxication and chord progs that are classic for this genre and some of those progs have undoubtedly been played by those aforementioned Cali psyche bands. That is no sin, this genre like the blues borrows heavily. The point is how well you do it and Reverends do it so well, they keep the slow burn moving like a buzz when you’re high but provide guitars sounds that shape shift, squeal, turn into bent alien sounds of life and high life and jam nicely too. What else do you need when you just want to drift away?.

Band Members:
Dandy Lee Strickland – Vocals/Guitar/Keys/Etc
Kyle Jones – drums
Andy Watts – guitar/keys
Matt Boehnlein – guitar/bass/keys/vocals
Henry Jack – bass/vocals

“8 Million”, from Reverends’ album The Disappearing Dreams of Yesterday, released on Little Cloud Records.

This new record continues in the footsteps of the band’s previous full-length (2018’s In Parallel) but with faster tempos, a darker vibe and a load more fuzz and reverb.

New Candys - Bleeding Magenta

New Candys have shared the mesmerising visuals for ‘Tempera’ from their third LP ‘Bleeding Magenta‘, out now on Fuzz Club Records.

New Candys hail from Venice, Italy and formed back in 2008.  After recently reissuing their highly-praised first two LPs ‘As Medicine’ and ‘Stars Reach The Abyss’, the four-piece are teaming up with Fuzz Club for the release of their third album, ‘Bleeding Magentas’.

Their latest effort is a seriously impressive collection of dark, swirling psych-rock – atmospheric yet overdriven, pacing but ethereal, brooding at times but always wallowing in a dazed pop sensibility, ‘Bleeding Magenta’ see’s New Candys’ songwriting at its best.

On the video, the Venice band explain: “We were interested in giving life to the imaginary of the album artwork, playing with natural and surreal elements, balancing what is real and what is artificial.”

“Tempera” from the album “Bleeding Magenta” out 6th October 2017 on Fuzz Club Records.

Little Cloud Records was founded in October 2016 by Mike Nesbitt, Josiah Webb and Mike’s twin brother, Joe. What started as a way to release Magic Shoppe records has become a vehicle for releasing vinyl for other bands we dig. This includes releases from Pete International Airport (Pete Holmström of Dandy Warhols), New Candys (dark psych rockers from Venice, Italy), The Orange Kyte (tripped-out Irish transplants living in Vancouver, BC), Firefriend (São Paulo psych warlords) , Heaven (Brooklyn based psych rock) and Arizona’s Wiccan Godesses, Burning Palms.

We’re partnering with a Portland, OR vinyl based plant and Joe runs a Chicago based printing facility. This allows us to produce all records, printing jacket design / printing and vinyl pressing in-house. We have been established by Cobraside in the United States and Fuzz Club Records in the UK. For digital distribution we use our own department to plaster your bit Across the usual suspects … like Spotify, iTunes, Google Play Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and many more.

Brooklyn-based psych-rock band, Heaven, announce their sophomore album, All Love is Blue, due out on March 2nd, 2018 via Little Cloud Records. The 9-track LP is produced by the band, engineered by Albert DiFiore (Caveman, Sinkane, Beck) mixed by Al Carlson (Zola Jesus, Widowspeak).

Heaven is Matt Sumrow (vocals and guitar), Mikey Jones (drums) and Liz Lohse (keyboards and vocals). Sumrow and Jones created the band in the wake of touring and recording with artists such as Dean and Britta, Swervedriver, Ambulance LTD, The Comas, Snowden, The Big Sleep and others.

A romantic clash between your Dad’s long-lost favorite psych record and the soundtrack to a John Hughes film, Heaven ride a massive sonic wave in delivering their dear and dreamy tracks. In July of 2013, Heaven released their debut LP Telepathic Love on Goodnight Records. The live lineup came together on the touring of Telepathic Love with the addition of keyboardist Liz Lohse (X-Ray Eyeballs) and guitarist Eric Altesleben (Desert Stars), who have since become permanent members.

As 2018 sees the release of All Love Is Blue on Little Cloud Records, out of Portland, Oregon, subsequent tour dates for Heaven in support of the album will follow. Their new work is a quantum leap forward for the band, both artistically and sonically, making the protracted wait between albums a huge payoff.
