The DISTRICTS – ” Peaches “
Posted: January 16, 2015 in MUSICTags: Indie. Rock, Philadelphia, The Districts
Pennsylvania rockers The Districts say their upcoming LP “A Flourish and a Spoil” is “about how things grow but eventually fall apart, kind of like a loss of innocence, the album track “Peaches”, which “ties in with the idea of moving away from home and into Philly.” which is set for release on 9th February 2015 through Fat Possum Records.
Resonating with a nostalgic charm, ‘Peaches’ is visceral yet melodic, as decidedly 90’s fuzz is pacified by a huge sing along chorus, culminating in a track that sits in the perfect middle ground between slacker-rock and pop, with modern bluesy elements thrown in for good measure. The track itself finds the quartet approaching these heady subjects with true rock and roll resilience, forging a triumphant medley of unrelenting drums and guitars that swing and sway like classical strings. “We won’t throw these memories away,” emotes frontman Rob Grote, mirroring the intensity and fortitude that abounds throughout this anthemic jam.
NOTHING BUT THIEVES – ” Graveyard Whistling ” and ” Ban All The Music “
Posted: January 14, 2015 in MUSICTags: Indie. Rock, Nothing But Thieves, Southend
This band continue a dizzying ascent that’s already seen them tipped through MTVs Next Big Thing project. Don’t be misled by the beautiful, slightly Kodaline-esque harmonies to their songs, as the Southend four-piece pack a hard-hitting sound that is beyond any expectation. From these glowing embers they spark into stadium-sized indie-rock with poignant shudders, particularly on ‘Tempt You’ and ‘Graveyard Whistling’.
On the latter you’ll have frontman Conor’s gravelly lyrics keeping you company, before an earth-shattering crescendo that’s rich with guitars and atmospheric reverb.
Brighton based Rock ‘n’ Roll band Of Empires debut EP ‘Stranger Sensations’ out now! Download the full EP for FREE at ofempires.co.uk. these guys have already been shouted about by the likes of MTV as their brand new band for 2015 act so are heading into the year on a high note already. Can’t wait to see what they do this year.
One of my most adored new bands of 2014 these guys just need to be going places this year. They made my top 10 gigs of 2014 as well as one of my favourite tracks in the year too. It’s only right they’re listed here. Such high hopes for them. Palace are an alternative blues/rock band from London combining laid back guitars with brooding vocals.
Montreal Band Heat have been labelled as a band to watch for 2015, This young quartet is treading on familiar turf, starting with Velvet Underground’s groundbreaking songbook and ending somewhere around the first Strokes record. But it’s rare to see a band this new sound so polished, or able to put their own slack spin on the Waiting for the Man template without coming across as overly fawning. The Sound of Heat is the sound of confusion. Tuneful but tone-deaf; beat-down and blown out of porportion. It’s a neat scotch and a mess of a life. You can find it scrawled on bathroom walls, hastily jotted down on cocktail napkins, deleted from your browsing history, lacing your designer drugs. It’s a couple bedroom demos turned into a Montreal 5-piece rock band, Now here’s the sixty-four thousand dollar question: “Do you remember rock n roll radio?”
Drawing equally from acts such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Echo & The Bunnymen, and The Strokes, Heat streamline their influences into a mercurial 3 guitar sound. The result is a stream of catchy, dense rock and roll.
I AM KLOOT – ” Northern Skies “
Posted: January 3, 2015 in MUSICTags: I Am Kloot, Indie. Rock, Manchester
I Am Kloot’s soundtrack to the TV series of the same name was released in November.
Whilst not a record for those that loved Sky At Night and Let It All In, it’s a fascinating insight into the creative minds inside I Am Kloot and potentially a pointer for a future away from the string-laden commercially-atuned glories of those albums.”
Blossoms are a five-piece from Stockport (they’re named after a pub there that they used to pass on the bus) featuring Tom Ogden on vocals, Charlie Salt on bass and vocals, Josh Dewhurst on lead guitar, Myles Kellock on keys and vocals and Joe Donovan on drums. Their 2014 has seen them release their debut single “Blow”, sell out the Deaf Institute in Manchester and support the likes of James, Courteeners, Inspiral Carpets and Starsailor.
2015 already has a new single “Cut Me And I’ll Bleed” scheduled for release as well as a two-month headline tour as well as support dates with The Charlatans in the UK and (rumour has it) Japan.
They describe their sound as “ethereal nostalgic sonance”. The great thing about them is that they already have a dozen songs that could make up 2015’s classic debut album. Their sound fuses so many different influences without sounding like mere copies of any of them and those support slots have given them the confidence and stage presence that they can make the step up to headlining those venues on their own, which they undoubtedly will at some point in the not too distant future. I expect big things for this band in 2015
The COVES – ” Beatings “
Posted: January 2, 2015 in WE LOVETags: Coves, Indie. Rock, Leamington Spa
Coves’ debut album was released in June.
We said – “I was hooked immediately by Coves. Opening with the 60s influenced Fall Out Of Love, this debut LP was off to a great start. They somehow manage to merge garage rock with a Phil Spector Philles girl band sound. There are no low points on the album. Fall Out Of Love, Honeybee and Cast A Shadow are probably my favourites. I say probably because every time I give the album a spin something else grabs me. There’s elements of the Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine in there too. Some say there’s a White Stripes vibe going on but Coves are miles ahead of them. This is a perfect late night record. I know I will still be playing and loving Soft Friday in years to come.
CERES – ” Syllables “

Ceres are one of those Australian bands that you find so exciting because it’s like you’ve discovered some sort of treasure. This is a band that really deserve to be sharing their music with the whole world. Their music is amazing and they are talented!, plus I love the concept on this video, “Syllables’ is taken from the debut record “I Don’t Want To Be Anywhere But Here”. the band have a new single out titled “Selfish Prick “
