Pre-Order: The Vacant Lots - Departure

Alan Vega protégés The Vacant Lots are a NYC-via-Vermont duo comprised of Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen. Their minimalist-yet-primitive rock’n’roll and sprawling psychedelic drones have seen them pick up international acclaim and go on to collaborate with an impressive roster of underground music royalty such as Vega, Anton Newcombe, Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3/Spectrum and Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500.

Their 2014 debut ‘Departure’, originally released by Sonic Cathedral, (produced by Sonic Boom) was what kick-started it all and London imprint Fuzz Club are delighted to be reissuing the record, following a previous partnership with the band for a split 10” with Vega himself. On their debut, The Vacant Lots deliver a primal hit of darkly hypnotic rock’n’roll with a repetitive and utterly formidable proto-punk gusto – reflecting back on the album it’s pretty easy to see why the duo went on to become so revered.

Fuzz Club Records will be reissuing the album as a double LP and the D-side includes two amazing remixes from Alan Vega and Anton Newcombe.

The New Candys will release their next album "Bleeding Magenta" on October 6th

“Bleeding Magenta” is the third album of New Candys, coming out on October 6th for the Fuzz Club Records.

The Venetian band, one of the most international realities that exist in Italy (judging also from the coming dates, between Italy, Germany, Poland, Denmark, England, Austria …).

The record will be released in vinyl, a media that is also served on the artistic side: “When we started writing Bleeding Magenta we considered vinyl support 12 as a creative stimulus,” the band says. “The limited minute that gives the first 33-lap side has forced us to skim the songs.”

Electric Eye play droned out psych-rock inspired by the blues, India and the ever more expanding universe. On the bands inspirational mix tape, you will probably find songs from the The Black Angels, Wooden Shjips and Pink Floyd in Pompeii. With members from some of Bergen’s foremost underground bands, a couple of spectacular songs and live shows, the buzz about Electric Eye swiftly spread from Norway to music fans world wide. Electric Eye released their debut-LP “Pick-up, Lift-off, Space, Time” in April. The album received rave reviews in the Norwegian music press, and has over the last few months spread to blogs and radio stations all over the world. The album was a co-release between Norway’s Klangkollektivet and London based Fuzz Club Records, who put out “Pick-up, Lift-off, Space, Time” in both the UK and US. After the release Electric Eye have toured Scandinavia and the EU, appeared at several Psych Fests across the continent. They performed at the Iceland Airwaves Festival, Eurosonic Noordenslag

Song Premiere: Sonic Jesus – “I’m In Grace”

After the release of the widely praised double LP “Neither Virtue Nor Anger” and an intense period of touring around Europe, it seemed like Sonic Jesus’ fate was set to follow an already traced path .  Their hypnotic, industrial psych-drone has been transformed into a dense, synth-driven coldwave/post-punk sound.

Sonic Jesus – Neither Virtue Nor Anger

The psych scene is one that has never seemed to really go away since its birth in the mid-60s under the guidance of bands such as the Thirteenth Floor Elevators and early Pink Floyd. It may have faded into the background from time to time, but every few years it comes back with something new and interesting added to the recognisable template. Out of the present incarnation of this crowd, which includes the likes of Swedish tribalists Goat, the hypnotic Wooden Shjips and a slew of bands that have featured on the excellent Reverb Conspiracy compilations, comes Italian duo Sonic Jesus. Their debut album, “Neither Virtue Nor Anger” is a set of predominantly drone-based psychedelic tunes married to a motorik groove that blows the mind and moves the hips.

Sonic Jesus’ influences may occasionally be glaring, such as on the Black Angels’ pastiche “My Lunacy” and by the beyond-the-grave appearance of William Burroughs, Patron Saint of the Spaced-out, on “Monkey on my Back”. The whole certainly adds up to more than the sum of its parts, however, and Neither Virtue Nor Anger is much more than a retro attempt to recapture something from the distant past. Stand-out tune “Reich” is an unrelenting cacophony of howling synths which underlay a twangy trip with chanted vocals and urgent drumming. “Telegraph” suggests Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd getting it together with original New York electro-punks Suicide, with its pulsating synth groove, reverb-heavy beat and spidery guitar lines, while album closer “Kali Yuga” has a dreamy, off-kilter vibe with bubbling electronics driven by an understated groove.

An 80-odd-minute double album of psych rock might be a bit much to swallow for some, but for those who like their psychedelia fried, “Neither Virtue Nor Anger” has some very tasty treats.

Sonic Jesus is the darkwave/post-punk recording project of Italian multi-instrumentalist/composer Tiziano Veronese and vocalist Marco Baldassari. They formed in 2012, and immediately signed to Fuzz Club Records. Before they even had a record out, they were playing sold-out shows and getting rave reviews. In 2015, they released a double album of noise/psychedelic rock stuff called “Neither Virtue Nor Anger”, which earned them even more praise.  They’re set to release their highly anticipated sophomore album “Grace” via Fuzz Club on March 10th.

The new record is getting lots of advance praise, and some folks are saying that it’s reminiscent of Interpol and Editors.Following on from an incredibly well-received double LP and a split single with The Black Angels,This could be the record to break this band into the bigger scene after last years set at Liverpool Psych Fest.

The Underground Youth started in 2008 as the bedroom project of Craig Dyer, The Underground Youth’s blend of dark psychedelic post-punk music has developed a worldwide loyal fan base that continues to grow. Since 2012 the band have completed a number of lengthy tours through Europe seeing them consistently sell out shows and receive widespread praise for their festival performances.

Fuzz Club is an independent record label, online store and production company that focuses on experimental rock and roll, influenced by shoegaze, electronica, noise, garage, blues, folk and psychedelia.

Based in East London, Fuzz Club has gained a reputation for surfacing the best emerging talent from Europe and beyond, and releasing them on high end, limited edition vinyl pressings, alongside a roster of the best known names in the underground scene including Anton Newcombe, Goat, Alan Vega, The Black Angels, Dead Skeletons, A Place to Bury Strangers, The Telescopes, Sonic Jesus and The Underground Youth.

Established in rural Norway during the 24 hour darkness of the Arctic winter, Fuzz Club entered the scene in 2012 with their compilation The Reverb Conspiracy – made in collaboration with Austin Psych Fest – a now annual release capturing the essence of the underground scene as it is today.

The Third Sound’s new album Gospels of Degeneration shows a shift in style for the group, having toned down the shimmery psychedelia in favour of something a little cleaner. That’s not to say this is a barren sounding album at all, it’s still hypnotically layered with country-kissed reverb, and retains those itching guitar riffs that will keep whispering through your mind for hours after listening.

Founded by Icelandic frontman, Hakon Aðalsteinsson – an ex-member of Singapore Sling who are often hailed as founding members of the new psych sound – The Third Sound came into being in Rome in 2010 and have since relocated to Berlin. Since forming, The Third Sound have enjoyed the support of Anton Newcombe, who released their self-titled first album, on his label A Recordings, and chose the group to support his band The Brian Jonestown Massacre on tour in Europe. He also provided the studio for recording their second album The Third Sound of Destruction and Creation which was released on Fuzz Club in 2013. Most recently they’ve shared members with Anton Newcombe and Tess Parks’ band, which led to Parks’ appearance on the single “You Are Not Here” from this new album. What began as somewhat of a solo project by Aðalsteinsson, the new album sees The Third Sound stretching its definition with deeper levels of collaboration between band members and the influence of a new character in its story, the city of Berlin.

The group’s sound has been described as “ebbing between light and dark, dream and reality, pop and experimentalism” and “ranging from hypnotic soundscapes to tweaked out and fuzzed up numbers.” In a recent premiere on Clash Music they were described as “lynchpins of the psychedelic underground.”

Album Stream: The Reverb Conspiracy – Volume 4 (Fuzz Club Records)

We’re pleased to bring you The Reverb Conspiracy – Volume 4 compilation (listen below), which is scheduled to be officially released on November 17th through Fuzz Club Records.

Casper Dee, founder of Fuzz Club Records, comments:

“I like to look it as a modern Nuggets series… a way of capturing the essence of the underground scene as it is today and documenting it for the history books. There’s so much amazing music coming out now and a huge energy within the scene; we feel like this is an era of Rock & Roll that we’ll all look back on as the start of something big.”

The Reverb Conspiracy compilations and the label itself are widely lauded as a crucial catalyst of the European psych movement – “arguably the most important label in neo-psychedelia” (Vinyl Me, Please). Volume 4 aims to document the relentless DIY energy within the scene and bring together some of the best upcoming bands in a scene that continues to grow at an unfathomable pace.

Following a summer of endless new psych festivals appearing across Europe and countless new bands emerging and earning widespread praise, it’s unavoidably clear that the European psych/rock and roll scene is getting set to dominate underground music. Vol. 4 reflects on all that’s going on and offers a taste of some of the best in psych, shoegaze, garage rock, post-punk, rock and roll and everything in-between.

The highlights of the compilation include the mind-altering psych-pop of Ulrika Spacek, the discordant shoegaze of My Invisible Friend and the kaleidoscopic splendour of Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation. The record also boasts cuts from the likes of The Madcaps, Soft Walls, Pretty Lightning, Giobia, The Oscillation and Fuzz Club’s own TAU, 10000 Russos, The Orange Revival and Throw Down Bones.
