Melbourne‘s the Crepes first step as a band turned out to be a gigantic floating leap.
The five-piece’s debut single,”Ain’t Horrible”, is pop perfection; a slow-flowing pastel colored storm that jars all the beauty and whimsy living below psych-pop’s underground and pull it up to full bloom in its wash.  While I traipse through the blotted meadows, make sure to look out for the Crepes‘ forthcoming debut EP due for release in 2015.
It’s chill and laid back like Dick Diver, Mac DeMarco, Twerps, but the chorus actually reminds me of a lo-fi version of Grizzly Bear with it’s careful drumming and vocal layering. It’s a pleasant mix between slacker lyrics such as “I just want to go back to bed” and the delicate craftsmanship of a band not content with just lounging around their house for the rest of their youth.

Like many bands before them Salvadarlings began with jam sessions in a garage. Experimenting with music lead to the development of their cool psych-garage sound that landed them their first gig. Lead singer Ash Goodall offered to complete the band with her vocals and the band performed under the name Wet Dogs.

While the band has only been on the scene for a year you wouldn’t guess it, with their resume reading like they’ve been around for far longer. Having supported Wolfmother and GOVS, signing to label Strange Yonder, releasing their debut EP “Primary Feels” and touring; there is only one thing they want to set the record straight on.

Something else that happened in that crappygarage is the magic that infuses Primary Feels,

Talking Heads have made this excellent live set availabe through their webpage or through You Tube ,Recorded at the State Theatre, Sydney, Australia – June 8, 1979.

Listening to this record by Australia’s Luluc more than most other albums this year. These songs feel like they’ve always been around the simple beauty in Zoë Randall’s voice and the underlying tension and support offered by guitarist Steve Hassett create a perfect vehicle for storytelling. “Passer By” was co-produced with The Nationals Aaron Dessner in Brooklyn (where the duo lived for half this year), its a quiet album filled with gentle surprises and a beautiful aura of calm.
