liverpool psych fest

The first round of announcements for this year’s festival, which will be headlined by space psych icons SPIRITUALIZED. The festival will take place on 25th + 26th September 2015 across the four stages at Camp and Furnace, Blade Factory and District. Alongside this we’re thrilled to have a unique and exciting SACRED BONES v BYM collaboration with two of our most loved record labels.

Returning to the scene of last year’s glorious success at Camp and Furnace – a remarkable warehouse space deep in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle –  Liverpool Psych Fest has, in the space of three years, established for itself a fearsome reputation for putting on a cultural event that embraces all of the cosmic delights of the psychedelic sub-culture.
For two days and two nights you can experience a brilliant kaleidoscope of music, visual art, film, performances and exciting curations, all of which celebrate the continuing revival of this mind expanding musical art form. It is little wonder that Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia was named ‘Best Small Festival’ at the 2015 NME Awards.

endoftheroad2015

End of the Road radiates an inspired visionary quality. Over the years it has acquired legions of fans who come year after year from every corner of the country, and even further afield. Terms like ‘charming’ and ‘magical’ definitely spring to mind when you think about End of the Road, both in terms of its programming and its site. After all, which other festival can boast peacocks, lanterns and a tree library? Musically, this is indie at its best, definitely more ATP than NME. As well as legendary names, the bill often features little known names, which is both very bold and hugely important for the future of music. This year’s 10th anniversary line-up is already attracting a lot of praise likely to ensure a sold-out event. This is a kind of festival where audiences listen to the music rather talk through sets and everything from the beautifully-crafted designs to the glorious and inexpensive selections of food and drink speaks of genuine love and care.

Music highlights: Alvvays, Fat White Family, Future Islands, Jessica Pratt, Laura Marling, Mac DeMarco, Ought, Sleaford Mods, Sufjan Stevens, War on Drugs

Taken from the forthcoming new album by the Alabama Shakes ‘Sound & Color’ and to be
Released through Rough Trade Records/ATO on April 20th 2015.

Its a massively anticipated follow-up to the debut Alabama Shakes’ UK Top Three charting, four time Grammy nominated debut album ‘Boys & Girls’ – will be released on 20th April!  Today Alabama Shakes have unveiled TWO tracks from the album: ‘Future People’ (available to hear above) and the previously listed  ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’ .

“We took our time to write this record, and I’m really glad we did,” says lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard. “We were able to sit down and think about what’s exciting to us. This record is full of genre-bending songs.”

‘Sound & Color’ was recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium studio. The band co-produced the album with Blake Mills—a young guitar wizard who has played alongside Lana Del Ray. And you can catch Brittany, Zac, Heath and Steve playing these new tunes live when they headline the Friday night of The Great Escape in May!

Majke Voss Romme’s aka Broken Twin synonym has quickly become one to be besotted with, something that shows no signs of change with the newly released track “Glimpse of a Time”, taken from the recently announced and forthcoming debut album “May” which is due for release April 28th via ANTI-Records.

“Glimpse of a Time” is stunning, of course it would be, guided by soft, uncluttered instrumentation which is never more than an understated accompaniment to Majke’s vocal, a voice that cuts straight through you and leaves your emotions teetering on the edge. Possessing an infinite amount of vulnerability and beauty, it’s one of the most intimate voices I can remember hearing, it ekes out hidden depths from her longing lyrics and genuinely moves you .

her songcraft is just as affecting live, thankfully the wait for a repeat chance isn’t too far away with Broken Twin already confirmed for May’s Great Escape festival  in Brighton(with no doubt a few more shows to be confirmed).

We’re very pleased to be able to add six more acts to the music programme for 2015… BO NINGEN, TOY ,BLOODY KNEES, BRAWLERS, YR FRIENDS (Alexei Johnny Foreigner) SPEAKING IN ITALICS Check the Line-Up Page for more details, music and videos Tickets are on sale right now for just £30 Handmade is a Music and Arts Festival held in Leicester, UK. long division

Now in it’s 5th year, Wakefields Long Division Festival has grown from strength to strength. In its short history the festival has grown in stature and played a significant part in getting the city’s old music venue, Unity Hall re-opened last year. In its heyday Wakefield and especially Unity Hall played host to some of the biggest names around – The Damned, The Specials, Iron Maiden, The Ramones, Eurythmics to name a few – So it’s great to see that thanks to Long Division, Wakefield is well and truly set once again to be put back at the top for live music in the North.

Dean Freeman, Long Division Founder:

“It’s hard to believe it’s five years since I started Long Division. Wakefield has come a long way in that time. The thing that excites me most about Long Division is that it still excites me. It’s still so much fun to organise, and to see and hear such amazing bands in my hometown. And then to meet people from all over the country who have travelled here and are having such a great time. I’ve just got back from a trip meeting the big artist booking agents in London; they all know about Wakefield now, because of this festival.
I’m so pleased to have Ash play in Wakefield. Although they are seen as a guitar band, I think they are one of the best pop bands ever. Tim Wheeler writes amazing, classic pop songs. Long Division has always been about true Indie music, the alternative, the DIY. I think Ash embody that, it just so happens they have some of the catchiest songs ever! To see and hear the sing-alongs in Unity Works will be amazing. And yet, they are only the tip of the iceberg for a line-up with over 80 bands.”

Returning this year to its familiar summer dates the weekend will take place from June 12th – 14th. Venues taking part this year include Unity Works Major and Minor Halls as the festival hub, with The Hop (Upstairs and downstairs), Wakefield Theatre Royal, The Orangery, Westgate Chapel and Players providing seven locations all within spitting distance of each other. With over 90 bands including loads of local talent and top names such as Ash, British Sea Power, Pulled Apart By Horses and The Fat White Family it looks set to be one of the best urban festivals of 2015.

Among the many acts the weekends highlights include –
Friday 12th June – British Sea Power play Unity Works (Playing a greatest hits set)
Saturday 13th June – One wristband, seven venues, 80 bands including Ash, Pulled Apart by Horses, Fat White Family and loads more to be announced.
Sunday 14th June – Watch a live album by The Ainsley Band being made. A special event at Unity Works in association with Greenmount Studios (The Cribs, Pulled Apart by Horses).

Confirmed acts so far include;

BRITISH SEA POWER | ASH | PULLED APART BY HORSES | FAT WHITE FAMILY | THE LOVELY EGGS | BOXED IN | MENACE BEACH | BRAWLERS | THE BURNING HELL | WITHERED HAND | TOM WILLIAMS | ROZI PLAIN | TUFF LOVE | CRYBABYCRY | HER NAME IS CALLA | SAM AIREY | ALGERNON DOLL | THE INCREDIBLE MAGPIE BAND | SEAZOO | THE AINSLEY BAND | FOREVER CULT | THOMAS WILBY GANG | NARCS | THE DO’S | FUR BLEND | BI-LINGUAL | CHARLIE PADFIELD | KLEINE SCHWEINE | LOZ CAMPBELL

Australia bands in the spotlight today as we look at Melbourne based pop-quartet Twerps. This classic indie-pop created their first self-titled album 3 years ago. Moving ahead to the Summer of 2014, Twerps have been consistent with the soothing sounds and bittersweet melodies as they released a well-received 8 track EP “Underlay” which has been described as “songs fraught with universal, emotionally familiar sentiments”. But this was no excuse for a break, the band have quickly followed up with their second album “Range Anxiety” which was released in the UK last month. Catch Twerps this years Great Escape Festival in Brighton 14th-16th May 2015

Twerps

Twerps create cheeky, charming and touchingly direct music, that has seen them championed by BBC6 Music’s Marc Riley and taken on tour by Belle & Sebastian, Real Estate and Mac DeMarco. The bustling, fun and nostalgic animated video to Twerp’s newest single “Stranger” features a play-doh man seeking companionship which was directed by the band’s bass player, Angus Lord.
