Some_Girls

SOME GIRLS was the first full album with Guitarist Ronnie Wood his slide guitar style particulary was a feature of the sound plus meshed with the similar riffing of Keith Richards.Mick Jagger added a third guitar sound for the track “Respectable” This was the Rolling Stones 14th album released around the peak of Punk and Disco era with inspiration for Jagger from the disco and club scenes in New York, It helped that most of the punks idolised the Stones. The album recorded in Paris and with Keith still under the possibilty of going to Jail.

One of the Hits  “Miss You” certainly had that disco appeal Prince reported that he wished he had written that song,  included on the album were some of the Stones best songs, with some still played on tour today. There is the country style of “Beast Of Burden” then the cover of the Temptations “Just my Imagination” The  Sexist lyrics of title track caused some fury  “Some Girls”with its risque lyrics that mocked the stereotypes of women with virtuoso Harmonica from Sugar Blue, there is the Glam/Punk of “Shattered”  Ian McClagan Woods bandmate from the Faces added organ and piano. bornintheusa

Born In the USA turned Bruce Springsteen from rock musician to Rock Superstar playing huge stadiums around the world exhausting the singer and band with three to four hour historic performances, selling 15 million copies alone in the USA, 30 million worldwide recorded at the Hit Factory and the Power Station in New York, this was the seventh album release from Bruce Springsteen and one of the best albums of all time.
With characters in the songs from small town America with darker meaningful stories. Characters born with Broken hearts and the only thing that keeps them alive is imagining that something, somewhere can happen to change their lives in following the daily fight for the American Dream, the tales are dark and often grim from the shafted Vietnam Vet condemnation of “Born In The USA” to the prison chain gang of “Working on The Highway” the aging and memories of “Glory Days”, hard bitten and melodramatic songs of “No Surrender”, “Bobby Jean” .the Father Son relationship on “My Hometown” Producing seven hit singles “Dancing In The Dark”, “Cover Me” and “I’m On Fire” ,The album also included some of Springsteen’s best lyric’s “Born down In a dead mans town, the first kick I got was when I hit the ground”
“DOWNBOUND TRAIN” The room was dark our bed was empty, then I heard that long whistle whine and I dropped down to my knees, hung my head and cried, the guy has lost his job lost his girl and nether are coming back. “I’M ON FIRE” Sometimes it’s like someone took a knife Baby edgy and dull and cut a 6 inch valley through the middle of my soul.
“No Surrender” We learned more from a three minute record Baby than we ever learned in school. “BOBBY JEAN” A song about finding your musical soulmate an added poignancy Springsteen plea to Steve Van Zandt who had decided to leave the band “Im just calling one last time, not to change your mind but just to say I miss you Baby Good luck Goodbye Bobby Jean” I’M GOIN DOWN I pull you close now Baby, But when we Kiss I can feel a doubt, back when we started my kisses used to turn you inside out, the Rhyme is just so good. its about a erosion of something that once had been so passionate. “GLORY DAYS” well time slips away and leaves you with nothing mister but boring stories of Glory Days. “DANCING IN THE DARK” You can’t start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart.

ziggystardust

The classic album with its glam Rock influences ZIGGY STARDUST was recorded at Trident Studios while the recordings of the album “Hunky Dory” were still devolping, Bowie was writing the Ziggy album this was to become David Bowie’s fifth album release,
He famously killed off Ziggy at his peak at the London Hammersmith Odean performance on July 3rd 1973 the band including Mick Ronson on guitars,Trevor Bolder on bass, Mick Woodmansey on drums with Bowie playing almost everything else. Bowie’s presence and energy to his character Ziggy made this album from the opening bars of “Five Years” to the dying chords of “Rock and Roll Suicide” is rock history. In between there is the hard driving guitars of “Suffragette City”, “Lady Stardust” alledgedly about Marc Bolan, “Hang on to Yourself” is the punkiest song written before Punk began. Its Weirdly beautiful, compelling and Completely worthy this was a concept album about the story of a fictional Rockstar named Ziggy Stardust.

white stripes

The White Stripes, Jack and Meg Whites fifth album release, recorded in just two week and with only three electric cuts on the album, the rest a more melodic acoustic album with three songs dedicated to the 1940’s actress Rita Hayworth. the rockiest song is a very Led Zeppelinish styled song “Red Rain” certainly they still are the most unconventional duo in rock’n’roll.

Recorded on the stairway of Jack White’s home in the Indian Village neighborhood of Detroit, “Get Behind Me Satan” features marimba, tympani, mandolin and bells, as well as the usual guitar and drums and piano. Described by someone as an “oddball masterpiece,” it was not commercially released on vinyl until ten years after its initial release.  Now in celebration of its 20th Anniversary, “Get Behind Me Satan” is out now (in the US, July 11th Ex-US) on 2LP, one red and one clear disc, both including black wisps.

The White Stripes’ 2005, fifth studio album reminds listeners of the fundamental nature of their production. While still maintaining their iconic elements listeners can immediately identify with The White Stripes, White trades in his classic, guitar heavy elements for piano ballads, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and even some touches of marimba. The Rolling Stone declared this album so “wild, it could make you weep over how pitilessly the Stripes keep crushing the other bands out there.”

“Get Behind Me Satan” ranked number 3 on both US and UK charts, trumping their preceding albums’ rank on US charts. The album’s first track and single, “Blue Orchid”, became a fast radio hit in the US and UK, making it the band’s second UK Top 10 Hit. The album’s second single, “My Doorbell”, boasts a piano and drums charge, reviewed by NME as the “funkiest tune The White Stripes have ever put their name to.”

Slant Magazine invites listeners to “take solace in the unbridled honesty of simple, solid rock n’ roll” of “Get Behind Me Satan“, while Pitchfork crowns the album as some of the White Stripes’ best work. “Get Behind Me Satan” is that raw, foot-stompin’, soulful sound that will take your imagination to that peaceful front porch in some cozy, southern cabin. So sit back and stomp your foot to the melodic acoustic guitar, piano, stirring vocals, crickets, and the creaking sound of that porch.
