Julie Ann Bee – aka Sacramento folkie Sea Of Bees – brought a break up to life with warmth and honesty on her last album, 2012’s ‘Orangefarben’. On its successor, those qualities are still richly evident. The emotions might not be quite as strong on this record but Sea Of Bees still manages to wrap you up in her words.

Rory Gallagher and Taste perform “Morning Sun” (Beat Club 1970). Included in the upcoming release of the 4-CD Taste compilation are the audio tracks from Taste’s appearance on the German Beat Club programme. Here’s the video of Morning Sun from that appearance. In a BBC Radio 4 tribute program to Rory, Brian May stated that a key inspiration for the riff to Queen’s ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ came from this tune.
A very Special Box Set for a special day! Rory Gallagher – Across The Water – An Irish Man In The USA Get The CD Here – https://app.box.com/s/o34kfrkuh8notxd2zeda
20 years ago today the world of music lost the unique and prolific talent that was and still is Rory Gallagher. He had rocked his way in to the hearts of millions across the globe. His sweat drenched live shows enthralled crowds over four decades and his records are still peoples treasured possessions. His life story is both the triumphant tale of a boy bursting out of an ordinary background and the sadder tale of a man struggling with the music industry and the consequences of his own success. He touches us all with his talent, his humility and his charm. We admire him for his commitment, his refusal to sell out and his capacity for sheer hard work. On this day may Donal and the rest of his family be in our thoughts and prayers. May we also thank the musicians that still bring that legacy to life, BoF, Sinnerboy, and so many others throughout UK, Ireland and Europe.
The flame will never be extinguished and the music will never die. Rory on my friends!
Sendelica paid scant regard to my suggestions as to the kind of thing that would fit comfortably within the open-prison confines of the box-set and decided to take things into their own hands by producing a 21 minute version of Donna Summer’s synth-drenched 70s disco anthem (that’s a phrase i’ve never thought I’d type); even the mighty Moroder couldn’t manage more than an 8 minute mix – ha!
The motorik rhythm remains but Sendelica introduce Eastern influences and field sounds in this intrumental tour de force.”
an excerpt from Sendelica’s 21 minute cover – taken from Fruits de Mer Records’ 4LP monster of a box-set – what happens when a record label with more time than sense asked eight bands to produce sidelong covers of tracks from the 60s/70s – either epic songs in their own right, or songs that they could use as launchpads for something….BIG?
The whole thing is called ‘SIDE EFFECTS’, and it contains four single albums:
SIDETRACKS
The Soft Bombs – Echoes (originally by Pink Floyd)
Arcade Messiah – Four Horsemen (Aphrodite’s Child)
SIDEWAYS
The Bevis Frond – China (Electric Sandwich)
Wreaths – Sundown (Gordon Lightfoot)
SIDESHOWS
Superfjord – CTA-102 (The Byrds)
The Luck Of Eden Hall – Starship Trooper (Yes)
SIDESTEPS
Julie’s Haircut – Shhh/Peaceful (Miles Davis)
Sendelica – I Feel Love (Donna Summer)
The set features…
– two of FdM’s most popular bands (Sendelica and The Luck Of Eden Hall)
– the legendary Bevis Frond
– two occasional visitors to FdM Towers in Superfjord and Julie’s Haircut (who have contributed stunning recordings to ‘Coltrane’ and ‘strangefish’ respectively)
-three new artists – The Soft Bombs and Wreaths from the USA, and Arcade Messiah (aka John Bassett) from the UK.
The music ranges from psychedelia to progressive rock and back again, taking in krautrock, jazz-rock and…..Donna Summer(I knew it was a mistake inviting Pete Bingham and co to get involved).
The Bevis Frond track appeared in a severely-edited form on the FdM ‘Head Music’ double LP a few years ago, but this will be the full, 23 minute+ version, while everything else is completely ‘new’.

I should get more sets – enough to meet waiting-list requests – but I don’t want to take more cash until I’m sure. http://www.fruitsdemerrecords.com/sideeffects.html
International buyers can still pre-order from Shiny Beast Mail Order as they have a guaranteed supply from me and aren’t quite up to their limit (yet!).

Father John Misty,”I Love You, Honeybear” aka Josh Tillman, has released the video for “I Love You, Honeybear” from this year’s album of the same name. Tillman co-wrote the video with his wife, Emma, and co-directed the video with Grant James, who also worked on two videos from Father John Misty’s 2012 LP, Fear Fun(“This Is Sally Hatchet”, “Funtimes in Babylon”). The video stars Brett Gelman (The Other Guys) and Susan Traylor (Greenberg). Tillman describes it as “a portrayal of an average night in the lives of two EMTs.”
He may sound like he wandered away from an L.A. ashram, but don’t be fooled by the beatific-hippie vibes. There’s a killer songwriter’s instinct beneath all those dreamy Laurel Canyon melodies the man can write a cutting lyric like nobody’s business).
Father John Misty’s “City of Music” session, featuring a performance of the song “I Love You, Honeybear”.
Directed/shot/edited/audio by Trent Waterman
On paper, “I Love You, Honeybear” is a nightmare: Suave yet cripplingly self-aware bearded bohemian millennial falls madly in love, grapples at length with becoming a different kind of walking cliché, and tops it off with an on-the-nose takedown of the American Dream. But what some listeners might register as smug self-indulgence strikes me as one of 2015’s realest and rawest dissertations. Josh Tillman’s misanthropy is far-reaching; he’s an equal-opportunity roaster, sparing no target including himself. His lyrical eviscerations are on-point and often laugh-out-loud funny, and they’re couched in throwback lounge-lizard arrangements far too pretty to be retro kitsch. Plus he sweetens the deal with some truly romantic declarations of love. This album is every bit as smart and beautiful as Tillman believes it is
Jacco Gardner, who just released his second album was one of a few bands featured on a limited edition Trouble in Mind 12″ they released just for the Eindhoven Psych Lab Festival that happened in the Netherlands last weekend. This superb 3 Disc Boxed Set, with a run time of just over 4 hours, captures the entire show broadcast that legendary night more than 40 years ago. Capturing the group almost fully recovered from the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, and with a little help from their friends, they deliver one of their most outstanding performances ever. By the end of 1973, the Allman Brothers Band were the most popular touring band in America.
They drew crowds like few others, on a par with those attracted by the Grateful Dead. So it goes without saying, that when the two groups were on the same bill, pandemonium often ensued. A legendary event at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Racecourse on July 28, 1973, when the Allmans, the Dead and The Band drew an estimated 600,000 people – at the time the largest outdoor rock concert ever – illustrates this point to. Thus, given their status at the time, when the Allman Brothers chose to play New Year’s Eve in the Bay Area at Bill Grahams Cow Palace, it was a benediction indeed they quite simply could have played anywhere they damn wanted. And there was a paradox – wasn’t San Francisco’s New Year’s Eve slot by now the exclusive property of the Grateful Dead? This dilemma however was somewhat addressed, live to an FM radio audience sometime after midnight, when Jerry Garcia and Bill Kreutzmann joined the Allman Brothers Band onstage. At the time, Garcia’s appearance seemed to cement a synergistic relationship between the two bands that became enshrined in rock history. At the same time, it turned out to be the end of an era not just for the two bands, but for a certain aura in post-60s rock, none of which seemed obvious at the time.
