Begun as a collaboration between former Vivian/Dum Dum Girl Frankie Rose and Drew Citron (a former member of Frankie’s band and NYC act Avan Lava), Beverly has taken on new life in the form of a live band (now fronted by Drew, without Frankie) and is quickly amassing fans. Lush pop harmonies and satisfyingly noisy guitars fill the space of their shoegaze pop songs in just the right way.Featured song: “You Can’t Get It Right”

The power of Steady, the new album from L.A.’s Act As If, comes from its big, lush sound and the interplay between the alternately contrasting and complementing male and female vocals, delivered by Sara Lindsay and songwriter and founding member Peter Verdell. The opening title track sets the tone with distant, chiming guitars, deep electronic drums and wispy vocals, while other tracks, like the building, layered “Anchored At Sea” work up to a fever pitch and enveloping wash of sound, or piano and string-based closer “It’s That Simple,” which serves as a soothing denouement with its direct, yearning delivery.

“Our intention was to create something ‘on the level’ sonically, but that also came from the most real and raw parts of us,” Verdell wrote in an email. “I think we’ve created something that you’ll want to blast in your car with the windows down, but also have as quiet company when you’re at home by yourself. I want this album to become like a best friend.”

Steady is out on November 10,

Green River is the third studio album by American rock and roll band Creedence Clearwater Revival, released in August 1969. It was the second of three albums they released in that year,

Green River The album isn’t just an excellent introduction to Creedence Clearwater Revival, but rock ‘n’ roll as a whole. Creedence were huge band and ‘Green River’ is a near-perfect collection of country, blues, soul and rockabilly, resulting in a record that digs into bedrock Americana. The guitars twang, the bass lines tumble down, the drums chug like a locomotive and Fogerty’s foghorn voice barks above it all. The sound is collectively beautiful in its simplicity – the sound of a band locked into a gleeful groove. The songs, on the other hand, , ‘Lodi’ – a dead-end town where Fogerty imagined he might find himself down the road, singing for his supper. Fogerty was feeling the weight of his responsibility when writing many of the songs on ‘Green River,’ weary of urban ‘Commotion,’ wary of his ‘Tombstone Shadow,’ unable to communicate with his love on ‘Wrote a Song for Everyone.’

If I had to pick a favorite song from this album of Credence Clearwater Revival it would hard… but this song would be a contender. It’s the way Fogerty wearily sings the lyrics, he sounds so much older than he was at the time. The song is off of the great “Green River” album. John Fogerty on writing the song.

“Inspired by my young wife at the time. It was early ’69, and I was 23 years old. We had our first child, who, at the time, was two and a half. I was sitting in my room, writing the songs, pushing my career. Without the songs, the career ends. You might be a great band, but without the songs, you’re not going anywhere. At one point, my wife and I had a mild misunderstanding, I wouldn’t even call it a fight, She was miffed, taking our young son out, wishing I would be more involved. But there I was, the musician manic and possessed the only guy holding things up. Without me, it all collapses, so I’m feeling quite put upon. As she walks out the door, I say to my self, “I wrote a song for everyone, and I couldn’t even talk to you.” I looked at my piece of paper and changed gears. How many great leaders can’t even manage their own families? So I went with that. “Pharaohs spin the message/Round and round and true/Richmonds about to blow up” referring to nearby Richmond, California. It was actually a true emotion that took on a larger meaning. It’s still a special song in the sense that it keeps my feet on the ground. You sit and write these songs, yet you try to talk to your own son and daughter and maybe you’re totally inadequate, trying to explain life to a child. We used to record our album very quickly and I remember finishing five different songs in one afternoon. The fifth one didn’t work, and that was “Wrote A Song For Everyone.” I had to start over on that one.”

Even the warm nostalgia of the title track is tainted by the knowledge that ‘Green River’ might be the last refuge. or fear in Fogerty’s heart – between the jaunty chords of ‘Bad Moon Rising’ and the end of all existence described in the lyrics – makes for a rocking listen, again and again.

The War On Drugs performs Red Eyes on Later… with Jools Holland, BBC Two (4th November 2014), What A band cannot believe how much this rocks. listen when the solo kicks in the song burst  the sound barrier almost,

There’s a reason that the spirit of ’60s and ’70s psychedelia is alive and well across multiple contemporary music scenes today. It’s music that’s practically unparalleled not only for its embodiment of freedom and youth, yet also for its painstaking attention to a musician’s craftsmanship and skill. Perhaps this is why The Wands are often called revivalists: they seamlessly project the infectious spirit of the ’60s and ’70s.
The Wands are a Danish duo composed of lifelong friends, Christian Skibdal and Mads Gräs. The Danish part is more than just a marker of their national identities: it’s an indication of the unique niche they’ve carved out for themselves within the Scandinavian psych scene. In this scene, you have neo-psych bands, and then you have The Wands a band that is truly psychedelic, precisely in the way it was meant to be in the ’60s and ’70s. This in The Wands’ ability to simultaneously conjure acidly, hazy soundscapes and straight up classic rock ’n roll, that swells with sound exhilarating rich and expansive, yet also highlights the distinct authenticity and human quality of the vocals and the instruments.

Robert Plant continues to show no interest in playing any more Led Zeppelin reunion shows. He would rather just continue to crank out meditative rock songs like “Rainbow” which is the lead single from his new solo album “Lullaby and The Ceaseless Roar,  But he didn’t exactly put a ton of work into the “Rainbow” video. The clip is a dreamlike CGI montage of stars and equations and Science Stuff, with Plant’s voice only occasionally flickering on a passing screen. The album is out now on Nonesuch Records. Also,  Plant recently told a fan that he’d be interested in working with Jack White , Plant was quoted as saying  “I love Jack White’s buccaneer spirit, and the way he dodges through the musical horizons. I’d be happy to make a single with him.” Also featured is a live version taken from the Hydrogen Music Festival In Padova

The first thing you’ll notice about Dilly Dally is Katie Monk’s voice. Every word, every note is a battle to escape. Singing sounds excruciating, forcing all of the air out of her body in a violent trial by fire . Even when she takes a step back, she’s filled with an acerbic knowing: “She’s a really good friend,” Monks throws out in a casual aside before descending into another firing line of howls. She’s backed by murky grunge, a carefully constructed tidal wave of sound that ebbs and flows with her vocals. The Toronto four-piece has been taking things slow and methodically, just like their music — they’ve been around since 2009, but have only released some sound each one more precise than the last.
