Taken from Braidsnew LP Deep in the Iris”, out April 28th on limited white/green marbled vinyl through ArbutusRecords

Last year, around this day, we were driving across America to a cabin in the dry woods of Prescott Arizona, to start a new record. We wanted to leave winter, to leave what we were familiar with, to go to a place where we felt sunlight on our face, a great expanse when we looked out, roads that we had not walked, a sky that was new. Just us three, chopping fire wood, taking hikes, cooking meals. We didn’t attempt to “write” anything – we spent a lot of time breaking down barriers of self scrutiny, judgement, expectations, pushing to be raw and vulnerable in front of one another, focusing on process rather than goal. The intention was to create a space where we felt supported by one another, safe to let anything out, encouraged to see an idea through to the end, a conscious attempt to cultivate curiosity because it’s so easy to let it sleep.

Today we get to begin sharing the songs from this process, and we’re very happy/nervous/excited to be doing so. The record is called “Deep In The Iris”, and it’s out late April on Arbutus Records and Flemish Eye. The first single, “Miniskirt”, and its lyrics are below.

Much love goes out to all those who helped us make this record happen…….Braids

The band MOON KING  have just supported fellow Canadian band Alvvays,  Moon King, were treated to a lesson in good old-fashioned British manners and courtesy. The room stood completely hushed and attentive, much to the baffling curiosity of the young Canadians. Their singer, Daniel Woodhead, mussed up his fringe and proclaimed the Bodega’s crowd the “Most quiet and appreciative ever, it’s really romantic.” Welcome to England, Moon King.  Order their new album ‘Secret Life’ right now http://moon-king.bandcamp.com/album/secret-life-2 it will be delivered on April 14 on digital/ CD/ clear vinyl plus you getwith the pre-order with an immediate download of ‘Roswell’

Sunflower Bean Debut EP now available on CD titled “Show Me Your Seven Secrets” New York is still home to bands as varied as Sunflower Bean, whose music suggests what might have happened if psychedelia had emerged after punk and the Police rather than before. In their first year, Sunflower Bean has made waves coast to coast. Julia Cumming (vox/bass), Nick Kivlen (vox/guitar), and Jacob Faber (drums), draw from a wealth of rugged lo-fi sounds, adapting the heroic charisma of VU psychedelia and Black Sabbath’s dark rock to fit their own generation’s drowsy ethos.

Track Listing:
1. Somebody Call A Doctor
2. 2013
3. Tame Impala
4. Rock & Roll Heathen
5. Ok Mr. Man
6. Bread

Pins, already, and a lot of drama : Pins are exactly the sort of group the music papers would have been fighting over more than 20 years ago. Make that more than 25 years ago: they’re very C86, are Pins. They’re atypically Mancunian, that’s for sure. There are no forays into avant-funk or pop trance. If anything, if you heard them without knowing where they were from, you’d swear they were a band from Brooklyn , All Velvets drones with a sprinkle of Spectoresque shimmer, they recall Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls et al,

This is highly referential/reverential stuff from four girls who have clearly done their research. They haven’t delved too deeply into history: the look (pure Warhol’s Factory meets late-70s CBGBs/Bowery) is as obvious as the sound, with the usual signifiers of cool. Pins are brand new with the usual farrago of fuzz, echo, sustain, reverb and delay, the girls’ voices come as though from a dream,They’re the most Brooklyn band ever to come from Manchester.

Sophie Jamieson has been one of our favourite artists for quite some time ,As far back as December 2012 I had heard some songs she recorded for a session on Amazing Radio on the Simon Raymonde Radio Show . Since then Sophie has released a string of excellent singles, put a band together and expanded her sound exponentially.
The song itself exudes intricacy and melancholy in a similar way to artists such as the sound of Daughter or Marika Hackman.

Hooton Tennis Club are four good friends from Liverpool who release their debut single for Heavenly Recordings,  titled “Jasper ” on Monday February 23rd 2015. The band began catching attention at the tail end of 2014. Signing with Heavenly Recordings, the group hooked up with Bill Ryder-Jones to focus on fresh material.

It’s a wonderfully fuzzy slice of guitar pop. No doubt in awe of Teenage Fanclub and Guided By Voices, there’s a real sense of Englishness to the songwriting – whether that’s in the downbeat melodies, or the lyrics which talk of a wet Wednesday.

Our Bondy got given a video camera for Christmas so we thought we’d let him do some fly on the walling and post some weekly video tour diaries giving you an insight to whats been happening and along with a little blog with what stuffs ganning oooon…. We’re going to try and do this with a video every wednesday so keep an eye out on here.
