The LIMINANAS – ” Funeral Baby “
Posted: January 5, 2015 in MUSICTags: Costa Blanca, France, Garage, Psychedelica Rock, the Liminanas
The French based Band The Liminanas Hailing from Perpignan, in the south of France The Limiñanas are a band that straddles the boundary between psychedelic, shoegaze, and yé-yé. With hazy, reverb-laden hooks, combined at times with noisy distortion, and fronted by effortlessly cool vocals, reminiscent of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot, the band is at once timeless and quintessentially French. Getting their start in October of 2009, The Limiñanas are the brainchild of Lio and Marie Limiñana. Beginning as a home studio project the duo spent much time flipping through John Barry and Ennio Morricone LP’s and books on Victorian era architecture, watching Noir films, and basking in the sun of southern France seeking inspiration. Their first single came by way of Chicago’s venerable Hozac records, followed up by a single 7” release, “Je-ne-suis-pas-tres-drogue”, on Trouble In Mind in April 2010. It’s been noted that their are traces of Serge Gainsbourg, Beck, Stereolab, Gospel, Yeh-Yeh, guitar fuzz freakouts, and Nugget’s-era stompers in the Limiñanas music. All of which may be true, but Limiñanas’ sound is irreverent and singular.
To date, the band has released three full-length albums – the latest, titled ‘Costa Blanca’ last September by Chicago-based label Trouble in Mind.
L.A WITCH – ” Get Lost “
Posted: January 4, 2015 in MUSICTags: Blues, Garage, L.A Witch, Los Angeles
all-girl americana blues, folk, garage, lo-fi psych psychedelic, dirty distorted country, punk rock drone minimalist band from Los Angeles Imagine Kim Deal influenced by Nirvana (rather than the other way around) with images of Gun Club ‘Fire Of Love’ era and early X” haunted surf rock trip blues. The fuzzy psych rock band L.A. Witch highlights of 2014, being a positive influence for girls in the L.A. rock scene.
“REVERB-SOAKED PUNKED-OUT ROCK” is how Los Angeles based trio, L.A. Witch describes their sound but there’s so much more to them than that. I don’t think it can even be summed up in a phrase, honestly. They’ve been bringing their unique mixture of dark blues, psychedelic punk rock to the table since 2011 and have been only improving with every performance. Their sound is completely their own and every listen is a new experience. All elements involved are perfectly blended, and none too overwhelming for the listener. With vocalist’s Sade Sanchez’s powerfully haunting vocals, bassist Irita Pai’s cogently sonorous chords, and drummer Ellie English is almost like the calm guide in this wild adventure, demonstrating how less actually IS more with her consistently supportive drums, adding the perfect measurement to their chemistry. Not to mention their AMAZING lyrics. L.A. Witch is an act you definitely need to check out ASAP. Think leather jackets, a dimly lit bar with cheesy Jim Morrison artwork, motorcycles, just rocking out and having a good time.

The GOOD MORROWS – ” Spaceman “
Posted: December 1, 2014 in MUSICTags: Australia, Garage, Jarred Scopel, Melbourne, The Good Morrows
An exciting band from Melbourne, Australia, The Good Morrows.Hailing from Melbourne town, The Good Morrows is a quintet whose delectable fast-paced rock offerings represent the product of a concoction of youthful folly and a love of great music. Having individually meandered through the Melbourne music scene for a few years, and sharing an appreciation for all things garage lead to the creation of the band. Distinctly The Good Morrows’ knack of delivering an altogether spontaneous, yet meticulously measured platter of melody shines though in their debut single, ‘Je N’ai Rien A Dire’.
Returning from a European sojourn in early 2012, Jarred Scopel (Guitar/vocal), armed with a bevvy of recently penned tunes teamed up with some long-time muso friends to bring fire to a proverbial melting-pot of musical influences.
Scopel’s fondness of classic rock n’ roll shines through in his voice and lyrics. Joined by Andrew Plisi (Guitar/vocals), the pair share altogether apparent penchant for all sounds Stones, Dylan and flower punk. They’re also indebted to the likes of Black Lips, The Dandy Warhols and 13th Floor Elevators.
The experience of Steve Acott (Bass) and Liam Skoblar (Drums) represents a proverbial rock of Gibraltar driving home the seminal sound central to the band. Tim Bass (Tambourine), although being a classically trained flugel horn player, also stakes his claim with his markedly revival-rock diddlings.
