Tim Presley’sWhite Fence has materialized: two years on from his solo missive, The Wink, the sense that something has cratered and someone has walked away, somehow alive, is heavy in the air. With I Have to Feed Larry’s Hawk, Tim Presley meets White Fence, and together, they move on.
The surface ofI Have To Feed Larry’s Hawkmay appear to the naked eye as an uncluttered expanse, but it’s hardly placid. In fact, the simple-sounding arrangements found throughout the record are garnished with unusual details which tend to grow gracefully odd and ghostly as they progress. It’s title track has an eerie, dreamlike quality, rolling through uncharted soul territory painting a certain vulnerability with Tim‘s unpredictable brush. The accompanying video for “I Have To Feed Larry’s Hawk” unnerves like a soothingly familiar alien encounter, seen through a lens, darkly. Directed by Ashley Goodalland painstakingly matching the surrealistic magnetism that so often encapsulates Tim’s songwriting, “I Have To Feed Larry’s Hawk” is a fitting introduction to this new album you should preorder now. Drink up the hypnagogic syrup and bask in the warm glow of Tim Presley’s White Fence!

Aside from a pit-stop at Desert Daze Festival (at 5AM as the sun arose, no less!) Wand‘s forthcoming European tour is THE most Wand-ificent event remaining in 2018! Beginning in early November, Wand kick it off in Bristol and continue the journey throughout the UK and beyond. Not a road less traveled for the seasoned band, but every performance in towns new and old blossom into trans-formative experiences!
To celebrate such an occasion, Wand have dropped a terrific cover of Brian Eno’s “Here Come The Warm Jets”! The band says: “This tune has been a favorite live cover over the years, the way it tumbles after a distant horizon. This scrappy live version is a little lit match we rescued off the cutting room floor at Bauer Mansion, and dates back to early 2015. We’re sharing it as a banner of some flailing joy we’ll be flying on this final leg of our ‘Perfume’ tour.”
With such a constant evolution of material, any attendee will be transported into one of Wand’s many worlds. With a roadmap like that leading the way, how could you ever go wrong? Prep yourself by having a listen to “Here Come The Warm Jets”, then hurry and grab your tickets–they won’t be Wand-ering around forever!
Gliding past ghostly statues of mythic entities and through the mist into the present world, Tim Presley‘s White Fence shed their multicolored-shroud for a heartfelt yet enigmatic, cycle of songs about losing the thing that’s killing you that you love in order to gain the thing that makes you love what you love, with loads of Heartbreakers and other new pop classix.
I quit the Temptations in Los Angeles, and got an apartment in San Francisco.
I now live on a street surrounded with blurry characters & walking human clouds of static.
The ground on my street is glass, nails, needles and pins/piss.
There are beautiful flowers though.
The sound of buses, cars and voices iron my brain to a nice hum.
This city, is now a bull constantly poached by the bullfighter. The Torero keeps chipping. It’s alright for me… now…despite this.
I can actually feel this city, and what it has said to so many others.
As a human, and as a ghost.
I started writing songs for this album in a small rural town in the UK called Staveley.
I was staying with Cate Le Bon there during winter. While She was there going to school learning how to build & design furniture out of wood, I started writing on her piano. Staveley is in the Lake District (Northern England) and everywhere you look is the most beautiful serene British landscapes.
I came back to SF to record, but first.. I had a fervent dream that Johnny Thunders asked me to be honest & simple with this album, and why dolphins were not given arms. I booked studio time with a very talented fellow named Jeremy Harris and we worked together out of a studio in the Dogpatch district of SF (owned and run by Paul from the UK band “The Bees” (or in US…. “A Band of Bees”). Because I can only play the piano like a 5 year old, Jeremy was able to learn the songs on piano, keys and finesse the parts, including most drums and also record/engineer the whole album.
Also playing on the album, is S.F. Mission district native Dylan Hadley who plays drums on two songs: “Until You Walk” & “Forever Chained” and H. Hawkline adding guitar and vocals on “Phone”
I have to re-learn how to walk. The poppy stomp. I’ve been tethered to a hawk, that I must feed on the dot. Many people get, and many people need. I can’t believe what I now hear and what I now read. It’s funny how the human moves, it’s desperate how the fog seeps through. San Francisco the city, is an artist that had become rich off one masterpiece painting, but still conflicted & inspired, trying to shake the blue. I needed to remember my heart is plausible, and not a closet of hornets & flies. Even though closing my eyes can still bring me to my knees, I think love and inspiration will lead me to free. Through life’s cycles and movements you get re-taught, but still everyday I must feed Larry’s hawk.

Wand’s forthcoming European tour is THE most Wand-erful event remaining in 2018! Wand have burned up the road from yon to thither (that’s Bulgaria to Hungary, for those of you who don’t have a map) for years now, and the results are evident everywhere, especially all over Europe, but especially the UK, where their last tour was completely SOLD OUT!
When Wand make music and tour, they do it for everyone, right? But perhaps most of all (yet least noticed), they do it for the kids! And not just the figurative adult kids, but actual factual real ones. That’s why Wand recently partnered with OMG Everywhere, a not-for-profit summercamp for kids, to make a video for “Town Meeting” off their recent EP release, “Perfume”. The results are surprising, if not downright shocking! Kids, what will they think of next? Hopefully, it’s how to buy tickets to Wand, live in concert,
With Joy, Ty Segall & White Fence’s new collaborative set of songs accelerate wildly from where we last found them, sharing one debaucherous mind. Their hits are like mementos buried in the ground, crawling up from the earth with attractive deformity – an auditory return to Salem’s Lot with fresh, mutated sounds bubbling from beneath the surface!
The new album drops July 20th and whatta Joy it is! Patience is a virtue, good things come to those who wait blah, blah, blah— all that’s totally overrated, and it’s why the Presley/Segall hive-mind is dropping “Body Behavior” today, no waiting required! “Body Behavior” absolutely rips, a shock-and-aaahh-hell-yeah clocking in at just over two minutes! It’s damn catchy, some of the purest post-punk-pop imaginable that only two of the most prolific living musicians can offer! Activating the undeniable chemistry you’ve come to love from Ty and Tim, “Body Behavior” roughs up the edges with jagged results that hurt Too good – but we know you can handle it!
Listen to “Body Behavior” now and hang on for the release of Joy, coming July 20th
In 2013, when last we heard from No Age, the duo were tearing down the mid-’00s drone-punk sound they helped define. Five years later drummer/vocalist Dean Allen Spunt and guitarist Randy Randall came back together to rebuild it into something even bigger and more self-assured. Snares Like A Haircut plays almost like a revue of the band’s career, with all-out punk stompers nestled next to shimmering instrumental meditations, shoegaze ballads, and combinations of the three. Most striking, though, is the poise with which the band has returned to this material, assembling this worthy comeback with even more confidence and musical depth than they showed off at their peak.
Track from LP/CS/CD “Snares Like a Haircut”, released January 26, 2018 on Drag City Records.
Interdependence Day comes late this year – it won’t be until July 20th that it comes down, and we’re celebrating with a new Ty Segall & White Fence album! Ever since 2012, we’ve been asked when there might be another one from this duo – that was how compelling their Hair album was (and is). If you loved Hair, you’ll definitely be jumping for Joy in late July. Given that Tim Presley aka Mr. White Fence‘s – collaboration with Cate Le Bon, Drinks’
Hippo Lite, is still cooling on the sill, this is pure bonus, and we dig it for that, just as we feel great for scoring bonus Ty too – but when we do this, we’re really missing the point. Having made one record together already, Ty and Tim know what it’s like to bring themselves into a project like this. In fact, they’re transcended it. This time, they came to collaboration expecting to find themselves there. And darn if they didn’t – in shared space, as one entity. It’s interesting to see them mingled amoebically, and as a result, Joy has a whole new thing about it that takes it far beyond any “Hair 2”. Come July, you’ll know what we mean by this. For now, just get “Good Boy” on repeat – before you know it, Joy will have arrived!
Something has been missing from the last few mini-millennia we’ve all been living through here in the two-thousand-teens, but it is a discreet thing; have you noticed at all? . If you can raise your thousand yard stare from the heart of the campfire embers, you might be roused by the sign that’s been posted on your cabin wall: our old favorite neo-troubadours Espers are manifesting once again!.
Re-birthed into an inextricably changed world after the interminable gap of nearly a decade, Espers mean to bring their kaliedoscopic folk vibe back with a vengeance – while not committing to a world tour , their three shows in the Northeast will doubtless be a potent presentation of their earthy-yet-expansive style! The classic sound of Espers is intact (Greg Weeks, Meg Baird, Brooke Sietinsons, Helena Espvall, Otto Hauser) and you know what that means; impeccable live performance of an almost timeless vintage.
It’s summer at last and with all this fresh energy transferring through the air, none is fresher than that of Wand the Los Angeles psych-rock band’s video for “Pure Romance.”
Both previously released singles from Perfume, Wand’s forthcoming 30-minute EP, show off the band’s range, from the hyperactive strobe-light-psych of the title track to the oh-so-pretty kaleidoscopic-pop of “The Gift.”“Pure Romance” features Wand in a floral strut that winds outward, reminiscent of The Left Banke’s fanciful baroque-pop minus the strings and French horns. “We both act very funny / The expressions that we hid,” Cory Hanson sings of timeless moments of desire, his voice hanging over guitars that interlock in and out of each other like new lovers. Within that span we’ve seen the line-up expand and evolve, as Wand enter a phase of maturation that must be seen to be believed. The sound, the energy, and the magic all held within Wand‘s orb are at full capacity – it’s a mesmerizing, super-sonic quake, are you ready for it?
Official music video for Wand’s “Pure Romance”, off of their Perfume EP. comes out May 25th via Drag City.
Freedom’s Goblin is honkin’ down the highway as we speak. With axes, electric keys, vocal cords and full batterie, natch (plus saxophone), Ty Segall and the gang on the Freedom’s Goblin World Freedom Tour (with the Europe legs kicking in late May) are lifting up our people one city at a time, with music played in exchange for a slice of OUR LIVES (and a measly few bux)! What better a time for a new single! It’s a different take on the album-opener (and live fave) “Fanny Dog”! Recorded with Boo Mitchell in Memphis at Royal Studios, the chooglin’ groove, dancing barrelhouse piano and fat horns on this version send a ‘specially warm, soulful vibration out to the listener everywhere! GO see the show – get tix for the one coming down the road – but if you’re out of the way, or just simply can’t, why not give “Fanny Dog” a walk – she’ll love you for it!
