The Black Lips new album ‘Sing In A World That’s Falling Apart’ and new single ‘Gentleman’ both continue to flick the middle finger to one and all.
This ain’t another gaggle of bearded southern sons fleeing their collective suburban upbringings and collegiate music education. There aren’t the usual clichés about drinking, honkytonks, and heartbreak. These are, after all, the same Black Lips who rescued the waning garage punk subgenre by not sounding or dressing their musical predecessors. They also dug contemporary hip-hop and punk and actualized themselves

Like so many dramatic moments in the Black Lips career, ‘Sing In A World That’s Falling Apart’ was born out of crisis. The band’s stylistic evolution through decades of prolific touring and recording took them where no garage punk band had gone before – huge venues, network television shows, and major music festivals.

Here Black Lips are at their grimiest, most dangerous and equipped with the best collection of songs since the aughts. Skidding onto the asphalt in a shower of sparks, they roll on with an unapologetic southern-fried twang, pacing the beast, every now and then dropping a psycho howl into the rubber room madness lurking underneath the truckstop fireworks.

Atlanta originals, The Black Lips join forces with Fire Records revealing first single ‘Odelia’ with a new album out early 2020 in collaboration with Vice. Now twenty years into their career the exuberant quintet are touring across the US before heading to Europe for an extensive tour this November.

A powerhouse of angst wrapped in traditional melodies, it’s a wild rumble fusing their musical journey from garage rock, punk and psychedelia into a mind-blowing hybrid of cosmic broken country, fragmented Paisley Pop and heart-on-the-sleeve back porch reportage, all delivered with vengeance in their eyes.

Released on this day in 1973..“Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” is the fifth studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath,  the debauchery continued. The band rented a house in Bel Air to write. After a month of no writing and all partying they returned to the UK to Clearwell Castle. The band says the medieval surroundings were inspiring, particularly for Iommi who came up with the riff for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in one of the castles dungeons. Ultimately they left the castle after scaring the hell out of each other too many times and finished the record at Morgan Studios, where Yes were recording next door. So they grabbed Rick Wakeman to lend a hand on Sabbra Cadabra. As well, some of the guys in Zep showed up. John Bonham wanted to play on Sabbra Cadabra but the band preferred to jam on something other than their own. To be a fly on the wall.. I personally love this record.

It’s got all kinds of things happening. Heavy, spacey, funky, experimental.. although it was getting close to the end.

We’re very happy to share with you our new single “Everything Else Has Gone Wrong”. This was the last song to be written for the album and it is a song we feel perfectly encapsulates what the album is about, so it felt fitting to go on and lend the album its name.

It’s about finding hope, safety and comfort during times of despair, when everything is seemingly crumbling all around you.
It’s about finding light in the dark, and the cathartic role that music can play in bleak situations.

You can listen to the song here. And you can watch the excellent video directed by our friend Louis Bhose here.

Our new single, ‘Everything Else Has Gone Wrong’, is out now.

A message about the song/video from Emma Ruth Rundle and Blake Armstrong. “I wrote this song for my dear friend, artist Blake Armstrong, out of love and in the hope it would console and encourage strength after he expressed to me his fears about living as an openly gay male in a country that’s led by an unabashedly hateful figure – and the effects said figure might have on the the country, its laws and its citizens. I hope that the message of the song and video can comfort and empower those who feels marginalized or mistreated or unsafe. I’m happy we finally had a chance to realize our idea for this video. It means so much to us both.”

ERR Blake Armstrong says: “The main feeling I’ve felt has been the level of uncertainty that has made its ugly head known as of recent. Fear is how I feel. Growing up in Texas, I was used to closing myself off or being aware of how I expressed myself for fear of violence. Leaving the south and moving to other parts of the country and even to Canada, I finally felt safe to share myself and personality because I was around like-minded individuals. It felt free. But as of late in this country, that fear has returned wearing a red hat that has made me want to quiet myself and the freedom of who I am. What’s worse is not only feeling this not just personally but also nationally. I feel hated. I think with ‘You Don’t Have To Cry’ and this video, it’s a reassurance to be who you are now more than ever. That there are people who will embrace you but that regardless, nothing is more important than embracing yourself. You were always meant to be the person you are and that there isn’t any amount of hate or bigotry holding you back from living your truest life.” Blake Armstrong

These are sultry songs for aliens – folk played on synths from another planet. Cathy Lucas (singer-songwriter / multi-instrumentalist), Valentina Magaletti (drums), Elliott Arndt (flute/percussion), Phil MFU (guitar) and Susumu Makai (bass) are from London and Margate. Syd Kemp engineered and Malcolm Catto mixed seven of the tracks. Sweet, bubbling songs with murmuring synths play together in the reflection of echoing wah wah guitars and flowing vocals. Library music from a parallel universe.

Vanishing Twin, one of the most exciting young groups in England at the moment, the term is used in dismay on living through a period where borders are being hardened, walls are being built and new boundaries being needlessly imposed. Band members may come from Belgium, Japan, Italy, France and America but they have all made England their home and, on this album, they are heralds of the much better future that is being rapidly dismantled as we speak. The Age Of Immunology – which is sung in all the primary languages of the musicians who made it as well as English – is the soundtrack for those who still believe in the pluralist dream, where the other is embraced and learned from, not isolated and destroyed.

Sitting among our Top 100 albums of 2019 are the irrefutably wonderful Vanishing Twin. With two LP variations, CD and cassette on offer with FREE stickers as well you’d have to be bonkers not to pick one up. In short, this Psych thriller is a trip. It has to be heard to be believed try to catch them at Lewes Psychedelic Festival!! Thank you to Fire Records for releasing such a great album.

Vanishing Twin is songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas, drummer Valentina Magaletti, bassist Susumu Mukai, synth/guitar player Phil MFU and visual artist/film maker Elliott Arndt on flute and percussion; and on this album they have made their first artistic statement for the ages.

‘You Are Not An Island’ is from Vanishing Twin’s 2019 album ‘The Age Of Immunology’.

The official music video for Seafret’s new single ‘Fall’.

Available for Record Store Day Black Friday, this historic concert is presented for the first time on vinyl, with meticulously restored audio and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. This 2-LP set contains the entire show, and was mixed from the original multi-track tapes by longtime Doors engineer / mixer / co-producer Bruce Botnick.  This set is a numbered/limited edition release of 11,000 copies worldwide.

The band appeared on stage on August 30th, 1970 at 2 a.m. in front of 600,000 people. Jim Morrison’s ongoing obscenity trial was still weighing heavily on the band. Nevertheless, they delivered such staples as “Roadhouse Blues”, “Break On Through (To The Other Side)”, and “Light My Fire”. “Our set was subdued but very intense”, Manzarek later stated. “We played with a controlled fury and Jim was in fine vocal form. He sang for all he was worth, but moved nary a muscle. Dionysus had been shackled.”

This is the last known unseen performance of the Doors in existence, “The Doors: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970″ was completely recut and remixed from the original film footage. Fully approved by the Doors, this previously unreleased concert was restored via the latest 21st century technology, colour correcting and visually upgrading the original footage. The entire concert, now presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital sound,

The five-day event also featured performances by such classic rock greats as Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Joni Mitchell, the Moody Blues, Chicago, Sly and the Family Stone, Free, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, among many others.

Neil Young has announced that his previously shelved 1975 album, “Homegrown”, will finally be released in early 2020 following its restoration from the master tapes.

“Homegrown will be our first release in 2020, sounding great in vinyl – as it was meant to be,” Young wrote on Neil Young Archives. “Made in the mid-nineteen seventies! …A record full of love lost and explorations. A record that has been hidden for decades. Too personal and revealing to expose in the freshness of those times. The unheard bridge between the albums Harvest and Comes A Time, Homegrown is coming to NYA first in 2020!”

The Neil Young Archives homepage also shows a video of Young’s longtime engineer John Hanlon mastering Homegrown in an analogue chain. “This is the way records were made when we started out. This is the way we made them sound great. We were told that this was impossible now, the Homegrown tapes were too damaged to use; we had to use digital. We didn’t agree. We did not accept. We painstakingly restored the analogue masters of Homegrown.”
