These are sultry songs for aliens – folk played on synths from another planet. Cathy Lucas (singer-songwriter / multi-instrumentalist), Valentina Magaletti (drums), Elliott Arndt (flute/percussion), Phil MFU (guitar) and Susumu Makai (bass) are from London and Margate. Syd Kemp engineered and Malcolm Catto mixed seven of the tracks. Sweet, bubbling songs with murmuring synths play together in the reflection of echoing wah wah guitars and flowing vocals. Library music from a parallel universe.

Vanishing Twin, one of the most exciting young groups in England at the moment, the term is used in dismay on living through a period where borders are being hardened, walls are being built and new boundaries being needlessly imposed. Band members may come from Belgium, Japan, Italy, France and America but they have all made England their home and, on this album, they are heralds of the much better future that is being rapidly dismantled as we speak. The Age Of Immunology – which is sung in all the primary languages of the musicians who made it as well as English – is the soundtrack for those who still believe in the pluralist dream, where the other is embraced and learned from, not isolated and destroyed.

Sitting among our Top 100 albums of 2019 are the irrefutably wonderful Vanishing Twin. With two LP variations, CD and cassette on offer with FREE stickers as well you’d have to be bonkers not to pick one up. In short, this Psych thriller is a trip. It has to be heard to be believed try to catch them at Lewes Psychedelic Festival!! Thank you to Fire Records for releasing such a great album.
