I was first introduced to Jay Som this summer when she was on tour supporting Mitski and Japanese Breakfast. She opened to a small, but packed room and by the time she was mid-way through her set, she’d reached a level so captivating that you could hear the breath of the person behind you in between songs. At just 22 years old, she has a raw emotional vocabulary and has mastered the ebb and flow of successful indie rock that a lot of artists never quite get. I hope it rains a lot in 2017 so we can all just stay inside and cuddle to her 2016 album Turn Into. Or better yet, cuddle to anything she may have coming—her Polyvinyl debut LP is looming— in the upcoming year.

Guitars, check. Swagger, check. Searing first single, check. Mercifully less retroist than your cassette-label favorites, Warbly Jets could be on their way to being the guitar band this town’s rabid rockists want.

Coming through the Los Angeles underground music scene with just one song to their name, Warbly Jets have impressed the eyes and ears of many with the release of their single “Alive.” The band are currently unsigned (but we don’t think that will last for long) and have a promising sound that boasts all the greatness of rock ‘n’ roll. Warbly Jets are “alive,” reborn out of the ashes of their own tribulations, soundtracked and affirmed by their own voices and not shouted from the shoulders of others. Warbly Jets aren’t a part of rock’s reincarnation–they’re with its second coming.

The All-About is a synth-based power-pop project maintained by Zac Coe in and around Central New York, musically devoted to exploring the enduring connection that exists between pop music and catharsis. Described by producer Oliver Ignatius as “one of the most lovely dissections of the blisses and anguishes of a failed love affair to come out in years,” the 2nd LP, Winterpop, is a “pop-soul-synth-punk opus,” and it’s available for free right now at: http://theallabout.bandcamp.com.

The best thing about discovering a band like Small Leaks Sink Ships from the wonderful music city of Portland own Small Leaks Sink Ships have signed to Lefse Records for their debut album release.  This tight-knit group has overcome tremendous adversity and keep cranking out powerful, expansive and mind-blowing alt/post rock, but it is amazing realizing how long they’ve been quietly releasing great music, Find yourself falling down a musical rabbit’s hole, digging through their back catalogue. because their forthcoming full-length album Face Yourself, and Remove Your Sandals is an intricate listen, It’s just the thing we’d expect from a band that continues to chug along, stumbling over pleasant surprises along the way.,

Check out a whole slew of good stuff from these guys. Lefse Records

Washington D.C.-based indie pop singer-songwriter Young Summer aka Bobbie Allen — first hit the hype machine back in 2013, with evocative synth pop gems from her debut album “Siren” . Returning this year, the musician has not-so-quietly built on the buzz, with a marked sonic evolution, and intricately woven cuts like “Alright”” Fallout” and the track “Paused Parade”a collaboration with Matt Hales.

She has now released a new track and quite a pop stunner “Echo,” the latest tune off her just-announced new EP You Would Have Loved It Here, due out October 28th,

After much anticipation, SAT. NITE DUETS‘ album, AIR GUITAR, is finally available! You’ve stuck with us through countless premieres of the singles, now listen to the album as a whole. It’s fantastic, we promise you.

The talented Milwaukee band who are putting out their new mini-album “Air Guitar” out this autumn uses the sad tale of Salieri as the jumping off point for their latest single, “TAFKA Salieri” (or, the artist formerly known as Salieri). Stephen Strupp — the member who takes on songwriting and singing duties for this one — talks of looking for inspiration and feeling overlooked and underachieved: “Great riffs that I stole and I don’t have much to show,” he sings. The forlorn, wistful-sounding track supports its failure narrative: “They used to call me Salieri/ Now it’s been a while.” Antonio Salieri was a classic composer who was overshadowed by the much more talented Mozart. His only claim-to-fame was an unsubstantiated rumor that he played a role in Mozart’s death, which served as the inspiration for his villainous depiction in the wildly popular play/movie Amadeus.

Sat. Nite Duets is Andrew Jambura, Ben Gucciardi, Stephen Strupp, Joe Guszkowski, Chris Frahm and John Anderson

The Aquadolls were founded in Janurary 2012 by Melissa Brooks, the lead singer and writer of the band. Melissa began recording bedroom demos of her songs with guitarist Ryan Frailich and eventually formed a relationship with Southern-California based indie label Burger Records who released The Aquadolls We Are Free EP in early 2013, and their debut album Stoked On You in December 2014.

The Aquadolls are among my favorite bands right now. Their We Are Free EP is excellent. The EP was released on Burger Records last January containing 8 tracks. My favorite song on the album is “We Are Free”. This song is really catchy and relaxing. Also, not a lot of other bands will put Napoleon Dynamite quotes in the middle of their songs, so look out for that.

I have a sexy Danelectro named Danny. She has amazing vintage tone. Both guitars are played out of vintage Fender Twin Reverbs from the 60s. We love to play loud live and blow out our amps. We know if our amps don’t blow out, it didn’t get crackin enough.

Laura Gibson is an Oregon born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist currently living in New York City, where she is completing an MFA in Fiction Writing at Hunter College. Gibson currently records for the US Independent Label Barsuk Records,  and the Berlin-based label City Slang . Gibson’s new album “Empire Builder” was released April 1st, 2016.

Within her fiction studies in grad school, Laura Gibson is finding her legs as a storyteller. Amidst trauma, loss and recovery, she rediscovered songwriting as a means of understanding her own life and choices. Empire Builder grapples with independence, womanhood, solitude, connection and aloneness. If Gibson has a thesis, it’s perhaps within the final words of the title track: “Hurry up and lose me / Hurry up and find me again.” With clear-eyed honesty, urgency and warmth, Empire Builder succeeds in capturing the moment between loss and rediscovery.

From Los Angeles, California… THE BIG GONE. They’re back with a sensually groovin’ sunbeam. A bright chill out pop promenade colored with harmonizing vocals and amplified guitar splendor midway. Creatively arranged and stylishly produced. “Hope Machine” is a glimmering gem. Catch the sheen here…

Cobi has revealed his new single release ‘Darker Than Dawn’.

Formerly the frontman of Gentleman Hall, Cobi has now released his third solo track.

Speaking of the lyrics, Cobi explained the track was inspired by “that feeling of falling to my knees and crying with regret of the mistakes made in the past, and the redemption that comes from grieving all that’s been lost.”

Prepare to chill out with ‘Darker Than Dawn’ as Cobi’s melodic vocals will guide you through the soothing single.
