St. Paul, Minnesota indie foursome Hippo Campus have dropped their first new material since last autumn’s ‘warm glow’ EP and earlier ‘Landmark’ full-length.
Titled ‘Passenger’, the stand-alone track is out now via Transgressive Records.
“Passenger was written in the winter of 2017 after the first four months of touring on landmark,” says singer/guitarist Jake Luppen. “Lyrically the themes deal with the challenges of growing alongside the person you love. For this song in particular I tried to challenge myself to write a more complex chord progression to sing to. I started off with a TR-8 groove and the rest followed pretty naturally.”
The duo behind British electropop group Let’s Eat Grandma were just 17 when its debut, I, Gemini, came out two years ago to wide acclaim. Lifelong friends Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingsworth found themselves thrown into the spotlight, and the upcoming I’m All Ears reflects that transformative experience. Hooky early singles “Falling Into Me” and “It’s Not Just Me” feel wider in scope than the group’s earlier work, with layers of synthesizers and sounds reflecting their increased ambition. It also helps to have producers like Sophie (Madonna, Charli XCX), David Wrench (The xx, Frank Ocean), and Faris Badwan (The Horrors), which should make I’m All Ears a big step forward for the duo.
Let’s Eat Grandma – It’s Not Just Me (Official Video) The song will be on our second album ‘I’m All Ears’ which is coming out 29th June 2018,
We’re so excited to introduce you a new band fronted by the wonderful singer songwriter Julia Jackin and the newest signing to Transgressive Records the band are called Phantastic Ferniture! with Julia taking vocal duties Julia Jacklin, who you hopefully know already, and is made up of old friends, Elizabeth Hughes (subject of the song Elizabeth on the album Don’t Let The Kids Win), Ryan K Brennan and Tom Stephens.
The music of Phantastic Ferniture is feel good and made for dancing, and their first song made available is out today – “Fuckin ‘n’ Rollin”. Watch the video, filmed in Glebe’s Blackwattle Bay below.
They’ll be releasing their debut, self-titled, album on 27th July through Transgressive Records
Named after the neighbourhood in Winnipeg where he grew up as a bored teen learning as many instruments as he could get his hands on, Micah Visser released his brilliantly titled debut single I Will Not Return As A Tourist last year on Transgressive Records imprint ParadYse. Mixing Death Cab-esque poetic despair across an unstoppable backdrop of searing harmonic power, his songs are wonderfully bleak and heartbreaking.
The joy of discovering that a love crush feels the same way about you is so pure, so unimpeachable, so fragile that it threatens to swallow itself whole almost immediately. From the upcoming album I’m All Ears,Let’s Eat Grandma crystallizes the high of newfound infatuation into a three-minute pop gem.
“It’s Not Just Me” begins right when the realization finally kicks in. “And just when we discover that we need each other here,” sighs Rosa Walton, “our lives keep pulling us away.” SOPHIE’s production conjures a fun house of shattered mirrors, as per usual, but here with The Horrors’ Faris Badwan, carves chaotic synths into a sleek glass house that’s already beginning to fissure at the base. The feeling is tenuous and uncertain, but Walton and Jenny Hollingworth revel in it for as long as they can.
“It’s not just me, I know you’re feeling the same way,” the two recite in unison on the chorus. There’s equal parts disbelief and pleasure in their repetition of the line. Let’s Eat Grandma gallivant through seaside vistas and abandoned buildings in the video directed by Balan Evans, driving through the uncharted territory of young romance together. Crushes come and go, but, as with everything attached to the Let’s Eat Grandma project, Rosa and Jenny will stick together.

Hampshire indie-rock trio Blaenavon had a big hit album 2017. They released their critically acclaimed debut album, That’s Your Lot, via Transgressive and Canvasback; they supported Alt-J in the UK; Then they supported Circa Waves and White Reaper in the U.S.; and they scored slots at last year’s Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and Osheaga festivals
That’s Your Lot is a triumphant mix of delicate ballads (“Swans”), indie-pop bangers (“Orthodox Man”), upbeat, funky guitar tracks (“Lonely Side”) and earth-shattering, climactic rock (“I Will Be the World”).
The band manage to exert a sense of modernism while still putting out good old fashioned indie pop. It’s an interesting trick and one that can be seen clearly on the new track ‘Before Sunrise’.The cut is taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Where Wildness Grows’, which is out on March 9th via Transgressive Records. The follow up to their much-acclaimed debut ‘A Dream Outside’, was produced by Neil Comber (Glass Animals, M.I.A, Songhoy Blues).
This track is another gem from these boys who are gifted when creating music to fit any scene you need. They can fill a party, they can wake you in the morning, they can burst your eardrums and soothe your soul. Gengahr have got it. Whatever ‘it’ is.
Following their recently new tracks ‘Carrion’ and ‘Mallory’ the North London based band are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Backed by everyone worth their salt Gengahr will continue to make music to live by.
Felix Bushe said: “’Before Sunrise’ is a song that celebrates the relief and simplicity one can find lost in the night. A clarity and single mindedness that doesn’t exist in day to day life. A beautiful weightlessness that gradually dissolves as the sun comes up”.
“Deluxe Editions of albums are usually only awarded to bonafide classics… ‘Interplanetary Class Classics’ is and will forever be, a bonafide classic released in March 24th, old folks with tricky legs and leaking midriffs the world over will say it was ’20 years ago to the day’ that they tried to buy the album of the Epoch but the 500 copies manufactured had sold out in 5 minutes flat in branches of B&M bargains and Wilkinsons, forever committing the artist to that struggling, low fee, indie band bracket – instead of being the genuine top 20 artists that they should have been, Top 20 Stars even!
Alas – with no time for bitterness to fester and after an intensive tour of the world, we,The Moonlandingz, were able to pull back some dignity and glory by simply being ‘the best live group off the planet’ – and as a Unit we put a new found yearning in to the hearts of those entranced by the sheer brilliance of our kind of pop music, Moonlandingz music!
It is for those bewildered and wide eyed Kooks that we bring you this – A Deluxe Edition of our ‘Legendary Lost’ Long player, which comes with a 2nd CD containing an extra hour of music, such as, all the EP B-sides, Remixes, unheard tracks, charming demos & the more curious experimental soundtrack side of our incredible, yet impeccably stylish audio arsenal! Not joking aside – It’s nice to have all these tracks in one place, so to draw a line under what’s gone and make way for our future, next to the greats. We may not be there when you want us but we will be there when you truly need us. Till then, we are observing your earth!” Adrian Flanagan, Organ grinder for The Moonlandingz, Valhalla Dale, South Yorkshire. X
