Zola Jesus has a new album called “Taiga” out , and from everything we’re hearing, it continues her move away from operatic noise-goth and toward a glossy sort of darkness. The album’s first single was the grand, triumphant  track called Dangerous Days.” She’s now followed it up with “Go (Blank Sea),” a glimmering, heavy piece of synthy pop melody that sounds closer to the Weeknd than I ever imagined Zola Jesus would come. But there’s a pulsing heart at the center of the song, and that’s been a part of Nika Roza Danilova’s sound since the beginning.

Even though The Knife seem to be the current face of oddball Swedish electronica, the scene is thriving with plenty of other talented groups like Det lilla extra. Based out of Umeå, Sweden, their grasp of dark and deeply affecting soundscapes knows no bounds. Each of their tracks released this year has a unique feel and instrumental/sample arsenal. The hypnotic “Himlen är nära” has the foreboding synth-pad backing of a Knife track, but with an infectious spoken beat-box sample that coincides beautifully with trickling guitar arpeggios and tropical percussion. The bass line’s subtle melodic shifts also have the capacity to stun listeners. “Andra sidan” begins in more repeating house territory and features a swelling sample-led sound, which descends beautifully in key just before the one-minute mark. Ominous vocal samples and interweaving synth pads traverse this track’s intoxicating hallways, capped off by a very infectious second half with higher-pitched, prickly synths leading the way. Det lilla extra is one of the most impressive electronic groups I’ve heard ; they have an all-around stunning collection of hypnotic atmospheres, charismatic songwriting, and sleek production.

Boston duo Sonnymoon are known for genre-hopping quite a bit—their sound has encapsulated smooth electronic pop and downcast Rhythm and blues and vocalist Anna Wise appeared on Kendrick Lamaar’s 2012 LP “Good Kid” ,M.A.A.d city So it’s no surprise that “Pop Music” the first taste of their new LP “The Courage of Present Times”, is another sonic curveball with tart synths and whispered vocals that sound closer to what PC Music do than anything that would appear on a Kendrick album.

CHVRCHES released their highly anticipated debut “The Bones of What We Believe”. last year To promote the release of the record, the band stopped by Later…with Jools Holland to perform two songs off the album. During those latter months of the year they covered  Whitney Houston, and forcefully called out online misogyny. After all that, the Scottish trio’s next move was relatively low key Vocalist Lauren Mayberry led the band through energetic though fairly straightforward renditions of “The Mother We Share” (above) and “Lies”.

Soulful synth-pop trio Years & Years have come top of the BBC Music Sound Of 2015 list, which highlights the best new artists for the year ahead. The list was compiled using tips from 139 UK-based critics, broadcasters and bloggers. Previous winners include Adele, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J.

The London group supported last year’s winner Sam Smith on tour in 2014.

Singer Olly Alexander said coming top of the list “means we’ve got a real shot” at making an impact. “People are going to listen to what we’re going to do, and we’ve just got to not muck it up,” he said. “We’ve got to make the most of it and deliver.” Years & Years, whose influences vary from Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell to Radiohead and TLC, have won over critics with a string of well-received singles.

“Years & Years” have already and will continue to capture imaginations with their electronic melodies and lively on stage sets,” said DJ Huw Stephens, who announced the band’s victory on BBC Radio 1.”They are a young band with loads of ideas and a clear vision of the music they want to make, and that will take them far this year.”

Norwegian singer/songwriter Susanne Sundfør’s music packs quite the epic, emotional punch—imagine the sweeping teenage grandeur of M83 mixed with Zola Jesus‘ throaty electro-goth—and new song “Delirious” certainly speaks to her powers, with machine-gun drums and synths that sound so burly that they should be tested for creative use. The track’s from her new album, “Ten Love Songs”, which will see release in February via Sonnet Sound/Kobalt Records.”I wanted to write a cinematic song about love and power,” Sundfør “It started off with just the beat and bass and as I developed it I added the strings and more and more vocal arrangements, until I felt the message was clear enough.”

NYC band Beautiful blend of Slo-mo Electro Pop, Wet’s self-titled debut EP, released last October on Neon Gold Records, has sold 1,000 copies to date, But several figures within the music industry seem to think that Wet’s first release is the first precursor to something much bigger.

The new project from Queens of the Stone Age bassist Michael Shuman, this psych-rock trio pounds out all of the right notes. Their brooding and entrancing single, “Death Is a Girl,” gurgles with the type of noise you’d expect to hear in heavy rotation on Halloween night in the East Village of New York City, equal parts macabre and danceable. Mini Mansions’ second full-length, “The Great Pretenders”, is due early next year, and it promises more spook-pop from Shuman and his bandmates, Zach Dawes and Tyler Parkford.

Aurora Aksnes might be just 18 years old but she writes with the maturity of someone twice her age. Hailing from Bergen, Norway, the promising new artist has already signed to Glassnote Records (Chvrches, Childish Gambino) and caused some healthy stir on the web.

New track “Under Stars” is a more brisk and bold affair than her first effort, “Awakening”. This time, she unwittingly pulls reference to another ‘A’ soloist, Austra, at the song’s opening with beautifully shrill vocals and tech-laced synths. Weathered drums and classy harmonic loops erupt at the precipice then her clean-cut vocals.

Future Islands is a synthpop band based in Baltimore, Maryland, signed to the label 4AD The band is composed of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars), and Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals). Future Islands formed in January of 2006 in Greenville, North Carolina. this is a slowed down remix changing the feel of the song completely.
