Ahead of the new Gengahr album, We did a Fugazicover, hope you like it! Our album is available for pre-order at gengahr.com if you do.
If being doe-eyed came with it’s own personal soundtrack, it would be written by Gengahr, and I mean that as an absolute compliment; the London quartet are like the “Girls” the UK never had. Soft spoken and delicately delivered, Gengahr have just produced an argent take on post-hardcore icons Fugazi’s “I’m So Tired”, which appears on the soundtrack to their Instrument documentary and remains one of the few examples of Ian Mackaye singing an actual melody.
Originally a minimal piano arrangement, Gengahr have drowned the track in a whirlpool of reverb, harmony and topped it off with 30 seconds of rightrous shredding. Somehow, the result is even more wistful than a fed up Ian Mackaye counting proverbial black sheep.
Slated for a June 15th release through Transgressive Records, North London’s Gengahr are pleased to announce their debut album A Dream Outside.
Picking up where 2014 left off Gengahr marked out their intentions for 2015 with an opening slot on Alt-J’s European tour and the release of the gloriously spellbinding ‘She’s A Witch’, which received acclaim from the likes of The Sunday Times, Independent, DIY and NME
The Honey Ants are John Grimsey and Rebecca Hamer. The Shepherd’s Bush duo formed back in the spring of 2013 and have since built a reputation on the London live circuit for their knock-out shows. Their unique sound, build around exquisite bitter sweet harmonies, has developed from its folk roots into something much more complex and darker – elements of Southern gospel and country blended with London attitude.
2014 was a pivotal year for the band, from appearances at The Isle of Wight Festival to song writing adventures in the Icelandic countryside, it was a year of discovery and breaking creative boundaries. 2015 will see the fruit of this productive year, with the release of some brand new material.
London TroubadourPaul Orwellpossesses a unique talent in his ability to create the music, attitude and ambience of the mid sinister sixties beat period with an assuring knowledge of his place in today’s society.
The latest video from Paul Orwell, the sublime 60s-infused track ‘You’re Nothing Special’ which is accomanied by a film by Fancy Lamp, loosely based on a scene from the 1966 film Blow-up, and featuring Paul as a blasé, dismissive photographer and a fed-up, mod model.
Constantly growing a cult following, Paul Orwell’s debut album – “Blowing Your Mind Away”is now ready for preorder at Heavy Soul Records, on Vinyl only,
With an extensive record collection encompassing Soul, Freakbeat, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel, Folk and late ‘60s Rock, Paul has taken elements of all these fantastic genres and come up with an album filled with moments of genius incorporating the talents of Phil Spector, The Pretty Things, The Beatles, The Who and many other influential bands.

Listening to Anna B Savage’s music is like being told a secret. To date very little information has been released about the London singer-songwriter, which adds to the mystique wrought by her husky, confessional voice. Every aspect of Savage’s aesthetic is spare, from the title of her first single, “1,” to the title of her debut EP, EP, to her lyrics, which offer piercingly honest insight into the scourge of insecurities faced by a pair of lovers revealing themselves to each other for the first time.
Relationship anxiety is not new musical territory, but Savage’s treatment of the subject is rare. This is not coy, or conflicted, or even particularly excited anticipation. It’s the voice of a person deeply afraid of being seen as she is. Savage is strong enough to be fragile, opening her neurosis up like a vein. She lets her voice slip into a whisper at several points on EP, but never so much that her message is lost. “1” chronicles the low self-esteem that gets piped into young women with the ubiquity of the air they breathe, and Savage delivers it with an earnestness that could level buildings.
The songs of EP aren’t cheerful, but they’re vital listening.
Crows were handpicked by Wolf Alice to support them at last month’s first ever CRT Live in London where they performed their track “Crawling”. taken from their Bio ,
Crows do not place trust in false teachings.
Crows take no pride in morose collective public triumph.
Our lives are painfull…y ordinary.
Interrupted by deliberate acts of tragedy and natural acts of horror.
We blame our elders; they exploit the tools of blame and guilt.
Crows shall not be moved by strength alone.
We must let their half-truths fall upon deaf ears.
How can we hope for sincere forgiveness?
We must not speak ill of the dead.
We must be truly sorry for our sins.
You won’t be judged here.
Crows will keep you safe.
Crows will guide you.
Forevermore.
The song isn’t directly about social media, but, with a title like that – it definitely sets a certain scene. An interesting way of listening to the lyrical content of the song is to imagine that it was written before social media. ‘advertise your life’ suggests your life is for sale , the song is telling the listener how much you think its worth
‘the world finds love in those trousers never worn, in the jacket lining where the pockets torn’ is quite a key lyric as it suggests the song is a ballad. a very dark, empty ballad.”
“Advertise Your Life‘” is the bands first release for record label RIP Records and forms one half of AA single alongside ‘Make A Person‘. Both tracks were penned and recorded in the bands underground bunker come studio in the depths of darkest Peckham. ‘Make A Person‘, and it’s accompanying film, show a darker, more melancholy side to the bands music. Coming in at just under 7 minutes it less a music video, more a short film,
Gengahr perform “She’s A Witch” at the BBC Introducing & PRS for Music Foundation showcase at Latitude 30 in Austin, Texas. Gengahr are shaping up to have a busy Autumn with the announcement that the London based quartet will heading out across October on their biggest headline tour to date.
