Continuing the Led Zeppelin live posts, one of the best is the historic show from the Royal Albert Hall on January 9th 1970.The Royal Albert Hall was London’s most prestigous and the largest Venue, professionally filmed for a documentary by Peter Whitehead and Stanley Dorfman with co-operation from band manager Peter Grant, However there were technical recording issues with the sound and speed which caused the project to be shelved until 2003. Two of the tracks from the concert “We’re Gonna Groove” and “I Can’t Quit You Baby” were released on the “Coda” album released in 1982 .The tour of the UK commenced January 7th and concluded 17th February One of the shows at Edinburgh Usher Hall was cancelled for 10 days due to Robert Plant being involved in a car accident, The band did not have any support for these shows other than at Edinburgh were Barclay James Harvest supported.

This is Led Zeppelin’s first ever Television performance on their second tour of Scandanvia and two weeks before the release of their debut album Led Zeppelin I, Jimmy Page had a selection of guitar effects and the violin bow , the mics on John Bonhams drums you can hear every fill in his drumming, Robert Plant charisma really shines through sound quality is excellent I don’t understand why this could not be made commercially released with re mixing the sound and restoring the visuals, its television history for sure. What is surprising watching this superb concert is the audience’s lack of response to Zeppelin’s fully charged performance. They sit listening intently showing little enthusiasm for what they’re hearing. For guitarist Jimmy Page this sort of apathy was part of the appeal of launching his newly formed band in Scandinavia:
Recorded at the Danmarks Radio Studios, Denmark for TV Byen/Denmark Broadcasting Corporation on March 17, 1969, Led Zeppelin ripped through a stunning setlist of their early favorites: “Communication Breakdown,” “Dazed and Confused,” “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You,” and “How Many More Times.”
Impressive, powerful and tight—it is an early example of Led Zeppelin at their best.

Bruce Springsteen surprised diehard fans over the holidays, releasing the first-ever official recording of his legendary and much-bootlegged August 9th, 1978, concert with the E Street Band at Cleveland’s Agora Theatre. The new stereo mix was available for download only at first, but a 3-CD set has just been released via live.brucespringsteen.net.
To mark the occasion, we’re featuring photographs taken that night by Clevelander Bob Ferrell, who was at the Agora working as a freelancer for Cleveland rock station WMMS/100.7-FM and Columbia Records. The Agora show was staged by WMMS to celebrate its 10th anniversary and was simulcast to other radio markets in the Midwest. One of Ferrell’s photos is featured on the cover of the new CD set.
Ferrell, then sales manager of Scene magazine, did a lot of side work as a photographer for WMMS, local record stores and national record companies with offices in Cleveland. Ferrell says he was a big fan of Springsteen, enjoyed the show, but had no inkling he was a witness to history.
“I photographed a lot of shows back then,” he said. “It was a great show, but I had no idea it would live on for so many years to be honest.”
Ferrell says he was positioned in front of the audience at the concert, kneeling just in front of the Agora’s stage. He was armed with two cameras and three lenses — a 24-millimeter wide angle, a 50mm and an 85mm. He says a fan jostled him just before the show began, cracking the 24mm lens. He hopped in his car, rushed home and found a 28mm lens, and hurried back to the concert. He arrived just before showtime, having miraculously secured an on-street parking space near the Agora.
The Agora concert captured Springsteen and the E Street Band at the height of their powers, after the success of “Born to Run” and just as “Darkness on the Edge of Town” was being released. Bootlegs of the show — recorded over the radio — have circulated for decades, making the Agora concert a favorite among diehard Springsteen fans.
Even Ferrell had a bootleg cassette copy, which he loved to play for friends while recounting his brush with history. “I lost the cassette somewhere, but Springsteen’s people said they were gonna send me a free copy of the CD as part of the deal to use my photo for the cover,” said Ferrell.
The Boss, of course, paid him for use of the photograph, too. “I’ve sold a few photos from the concert over the years,” said Ferrell. “I don’t have website, or digital copies of the photographs. But sometimes people track me down and I sell them a print.”

Bruce Springsteen and the E.Street Band’s legendary live performance from Bill Graham’s Winterland in San Francisco 0n 15th December 1978 recorded by KSAN-FM radio during the tour to promote the album “Darkness On the Edge Of Town” a 3cd set this was recorde on the first night of two show and without doubt one of the greatest rock shows ever and this particual show was one of the bootleged shows that made Springsteen’s name as the great live performer he undoubtedly is, Available from Amazon now
On both nights I can remember as Bruce and the band went into their mutli-song encore that the crowd began stomping to the music and the entire floor, which was an old hardwood floor, began to shake with the rhythm. I was a bit concerned as to whether the old building would collapse and we would all end up in a pile in the basement.
After both shows there was just a lingering feeling of energy for all of us as we made our way out into the foggy damp San Francisco night. Our ears were still ringing from the sounds and being so close to the stage and there were lingering memories of each song. As we walked back to where ever we had parked the car I can remember each of us occasionally bursting out with a line from Thunder Road or Born to Run. The next day we had to get to the airport and catch a flight home for the holiday. We both felt so exhausted from those 2 shows at Winterland.
