A breakout bedroom electronica outfit that really had no intention of breaking out, New Zealand’s disco-y dream-poppers Yumi Zouma have emerged with an insanely fresh attitude, an effortless 80’s panache, and, in this case, a mysteriously bewitching video that combines a lingering Twin Peaks aesthetic with mass hysterical narcolepsy that, frankly, we can’t quit watching. The young duo’s debut release, a compilation of their two initial EPs and called, brazenly enough, EP1 & EP2, is just released on Cascine Records.

BRAIDS – ” Taste “
Posted: March 6, 2015 in MUSICTags: Arbutus Records, Braids, Deep In The Iris, Electronica
Art-tronica band Braids have dropped another track ahead of their third album “Deep In The Iris”, the gorgeous and emotive “Taste”. Braids have always had a certain grandeur about them: an appreciation for detail and majesty. A lot of their tracks sound like they’ve studied all the angels, nooks and musical hooks yet the trio’s writing never sounds forced. Most of Braids’ creative sounds are doused in such splendid dreamyness ,

On “Taste” we hear a perfect balance of this organic writing paired with intricate song construction. “You’re exactly what I like/I will give you what you like”, singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston breathes on an ascending scale of classic piano chords and frenetic beats. Elsewhere, flowery guitar lines fill the void left between the stoic chords and scuttering rhythms, adding some needed body and colour.
It might be less electronic-focused than some of their previous offerings but “Taste” is no less compelling listen with its delicate, interlocking features. “Deep In The Iris” is out 27th April via Arbutus Records. Braids – Deep In The Iris
When’s it out? April 27th Braids’ third album “explores a number of heavy subjects, including pornography, abuse and slut-shaming” wrote the Montreal group, announcing ‘Deep In The Iris’, which if single ‘Miniskirt’ is anything to go by, should captivate and move as much as its predecessor, 2013’s ‘Flourish / Perish’.
ELIOT SUMNER – ” Information “

From the band I BLAME COCO, Eliot Coco Sumner, (aka Sting’s daughter) used to make electro-pop under the moniker I Blame Coco. Now she’s recording under her real name, with an EP out already from last summer and an album to follow sometime this year. In a press release, she says she’s been influenced by a recent krautrock listening spree, and you can sort of see that in the driving bass riffs on this song She also says that the song is about “still being in love with someone but not allowing them to have another life. It’s very selfish.
COURTSHIP RITUAL – ” Yellow Spiders “

The Brooklyn duo Courtship Ritual make spare, hushed, minimal indie-pop, like Beach House with a slight dance-music edge, or like the xx with a little more old-school 4AD reverb in their sound. That’s a simple, durable sound, but on their debut album “Pith”, they’re already exploring its edges, changing its definition from song to song. Pith has been out on cassette for a little while now, but it’s about to get a proper wide release. My friend Nick Sylvester produced the album, and he’s putting it out on his Godmode label. And when I say that this is one of the best indie albums you’ll hear this year. I’m saying that because that’s what it is. You can, and should listen now,

Their previous single ‘Real’ dropped in February last year, and since we’ve had Years & Years pretty much on replay Well today the popular trio have treated us to the new single, ‘Take Shelter’.
Take Shelter’ takes place in a forest and sees the band follow a mysterious girl splattered in paint and clad in a coat of matted wool and hair through the trees. Lead vocalist Olly Alexander explained the meaning behind the track: “The song is about a relationship, how I felt manipulated by somebody but sort of liked it.” Years & Years is an English electronica trio founded in London, The group consists of frontman and keyboardist Olly Alexander, bassist Mikey Goldsworthy and synth player Emre Turkmen. Years & Years’ music has been described as electro pop, mixing R&B and ’90s house elements, with Flying Lotus, Diplo, Radiohead and Jai Paul being their core influences
MISS KENICHI – ” The Ghost “
Posted: December 11, 2014 in MUSICTags: Electronica, Katrin Hahner, Miss Kenichi
Miss Kenichi is the stage name of Katrin Hahner – although taking the stage is not something that comes easily to the Berlin-based musician, who suffers from stage fright. It might be going too far to suggest that fear is a motif of her work, but it does appear to seep into her music. New album “The Trail” will appeal to fans of atmospheric, electronica-inflected folk, or folk-inflected electronica, and it features vocals that are delicate and cutely conversational, with a sense of sadness. Best for those with a penchant for the gloomy, the graceful and the glacial.

Jack Garratt is the latest all-singing,wonderful talented 23-year-old musician and producer with a flexible, affecting voice and a way with electronics that will doubtless soon have him crowned the new James Blake or Jamie Woon. Garratt’s bass-heavy ballad-tronica has also earned the attention of producer Rick Rubin. Check out Jack Garratt’s latest single, “The Love You’re Given”.

Following in the footsteps of London Grammar, James Vincent McMorrow and the original by Chris Isaak himself, Swedish five piece Tula are not going to be the the last act to perform ‘Wicked Game’.
the video matches the near pitch black visuals with the track’s melancholy mood – and showcases precisely why the band hve been getting a lot of attention.
