Two years after ending its long and illustrious association with British holiday camps, the renowned All Tomorrow’s Parties collective makes a most welcome return to the residential festival arena. Where once it was Camber Sands and Minehead, now it will be Prestatyn; come the last weekend of November this year the North Wales’ coast will see a reprise of ATP’s famous Nightmare Before Christmas event.
Curated by the English visual artists Jake and Dinos Chapman, All Tomorrow’s Parties 2.0 Nightmare Before Christmas 2015 will follow firmly in the festival’s inspired, independent, alternative footsteps to the outer limits of true experimentation and high adventure. A bill that includes German neo-classical compositions, American existential indie-rock, Aussie post-punk and Chilean cosmic psychedelia gives a strong indication of ATP’s vast geographical and musically diverse reach.

Music highlights: Blanck Mass, Built to Spill, Courtney Barnett, Föllakzoid, Grimm Grimm, Natalie Prass, Max Richter, Total Control, Viet Cong, Younghusband

Best Kept Secret: 17 - 19 June, Hilvarenbeek, The Netherlands

The Best Kept Secret festival in the Netherlands has announced its first acts for 2016, with Beck, Wilco and Caribou among the initial names unveiled.

Beck is the first of the festival’s headliners to be announced, sharing the billing with Editors, while Dan Snaith and Caribou return to the festival having played Best Kept Secret’s second edition in 2014. Chicago indie veterans Wilco also join the line-up – Jeff Tweedy and co have also been confirmed for fellow Dutch festival Le Guess Who’s 2016 edition, in Utrecht next November. Elsewhere on the bill, returning Texas post-rockers Explosions In The Sky are also set for Best Kept Secret 2016, along with prolific Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House as well as Dan Bejar, aka Destroyer Bejar’s latest Destroyer LP, “Poison Season”. The full list of line-up announcements for Best Kept Secret 2016 can be found below.

Best Kept Secret takes place from 17-19 June 2016 at the Beekse Bergen safari park, near Hilvarenbeek, in the Netherlands. The full line-up so far is as follows: Editors, Beck, Wilco, Beach House, Explosions In The Sky, Caribou, Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party, Yelawolf, Destroyer, Half Moon Run, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Yeasayer.

There were some raised eyebrows over the fact that Tame Impala was the night headliner. Are they really at the “closing festivals” stage of their career already? Why not go with Wilco or Ryan Adams, both of whom—on paper at least—seem like more obvious choices? But Tame Impala proved the skeptics wrong this year, commanding the crowd’s attention and captivating them with their trippy psychedelia. Add to that dreamy, soaring sound a top-notch light show, and you’ve got everything you need for a successful headlining spot. New tracks from this year’s best album “Currents” sounded just as strong as the hits from their excellent Lonerism, and we’re excited to see these guys in the top-billed spot for years to come.

A 12 hour mini festival on Saturday 12 December with Nadine Shah Little Barrie Telegram NOVELLA Lusts Kassassin Street Whistlejacket Dead Rabbits Sun Machine Lucifer’s Sun playing live and YAK Eddy Temple-Morris Simone Marie and the Heavenly Jukebox playing records from 3 till 3!

Brought to you by the promoters behind last year’s Wire curated DRILL festivities, Mutations is a new multi-venue event described as “a creative mass of genre hybrids and expression, delivering some of the most inspiring, creative and interesting music the world has to offer”.
One of the most striking aspects of Mutations is its intimacy, with a range of small venues, providing an altogether more personal experience. Another special feature is the festival’s programming approach: as the day progresses, stage numbers decrease, eliminating the worry of clashes and ensuring a stress free weekend of “constant music from doors open until festival close”.
And then, of course, there is Brighton and Hove, with the latter half of the city playing host to the majority of Saturday’s proceedings, while Sunday punters will enjoy more of Brighton.

Music highlights: Chastity, Jane Weaver, Josh T.Pearson, Kagoule, Lightening Bolt, Lowly, Metz, Natalie Prass, Ought, Plastic Mermaids

SRV & DOUBLE TROUBLE Playing SOUL TO SOUL LIVE – with 7 bonus cuts In March 1985, recording for Double Trouble’s third studio album, “Soul to Soul”, began at the Dallas Sound Lab. As the sessions progressed though, Vaughan became increasingly frustrated with his own lack of inspiration. He was allowed a relaxed pace of recording, which contributed to a lack of focus due to excesses in alcohol and other drugs. During the album’s production, Vaughan appeared at the Houston Astrodome, on April 10, 1985, where he performed a slide guitar rendition of the US national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”; his performance was met with booing. Soul to Soul was released on 30th September, 1985, and peaked at number 34 and remained on the Billboard 200 through mid-1986, eventually certified gold. It was shortly before the release date, across Labour Day weekend 85 (30th August – 2nd September) that, as always, the years Bumbershoot Festival took place.

SRV performed on the evening of 1st September, and despite the difficulties prevalent during its recording, 9of the 10 tracks from Soul To Soul were played, alongside another 7 songs from earlier albums, cover versions and – at the time – unreleased rarities. Many of his problems with abuse would continue to haunt Stevie Ray across at least another year following the release of Soul To Soul, when, after a near death experience, he booked into a London Clinic for rehab but the sheer power and intensity of the album is almost certainly best illustrated in this live rendition – indeed for many of those who are familiar with this recording, these are generally the preferred versions of the albums marvellous songs.

This is a fabulous Stevie Ray CD, featuring his 1985 show at the Bumbershoot Fest in Seattle, this was a gig performed shortly following the release of Soul to Soul, and contains the majority of the songs from that record, but in a live setting they take on a new edge which isn’t present on the album

The unstoppable streams of information that wrap tangles around our brains can get a little confusing to say the least. These restless beams carry huge amounts of images, opinions and sounds around the world, almost blinding in quantity and depth, and navigating to a place of interest can take up as much time as digesting the details found on arrival. One such area that both benefits and suffocates from this endlessness is music. That feeling of there being too much is a direct result of, well, there being too much, but also how most of it is accessible in a few clicks. The eclectic minded individual could well view a simple task of listening to a new artist a daunting feat, akin to decided upon a single snack on a street housing eateries from every corner of the world.

Fortunately there are organisations who take the time to pick through the dense saturation, curating brave and diverse podcasts, events and online archives to assist, even if slightly, those who simply do not have the time. The music festival format has always been a very effective way to see your favourite acts live, whilst also discovering some new names. Le Guess Who? is one such organisation, embracing the diversity of many a UK festival whilst waving a proudly alternative, underground flag, but throwing themselves open to a whole city in what is a truly massive, all-corners-covered spectacle of high quality, defiantly excellent music.

Held in Amsterdam’s charming, quieter sibling Utrecht, Le Guess Who? takes over multiple venues from the tiny, DIY minded ACU to the colossal concert halls of the TivoliVredenburg events centre. Around these most of the city seems to go about its business, though delightful pockets of festival activity crop up in cafes, churches and galleries. It’s clear a lot of work goes into orchestrating something so extensive.

What’s obviously most crucial however, is what these venues actually host. Last year’s event swung gracefully and violently between explosive heaviness from the likes of Swans and Savages, experimental and world music (seeing Einstürzende Neubauten in a hall more suited to a vast theatre piece was quite something), electronica from heroes Autechre, plenty of calm ambience (there was a stage devoted to 24 hours of drone) and plenty more.

We’re revealing the full line-up for Le Guess Who? 2015 with 55 new additions.
The Notwist, Atlas Sound, Sunn O))) presents Hildur Gudnadóttir, Yung Gud, Islam chipsy / EEK,Prefuse73, Lee Gamble (DJ set), Huerco S., Heems, Bob Forrest, The Besnard Lakes, Michael Price Trio,Masayoshi Fujita, Nâ Hawa Doumbia, Mark McGuire,Hop Along, Hooton Tennis Club, Rats On Rafts, Terzij de Horde and many more will be joining us in November!

During Le Guess Who? 2015, in the daytime on Saturday November 21 & Sunday, November 22, Record Planet’s Mega Record & CD Fair will take place in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.
Being the world’s biggest record fair, this is an event that in the past 23 years has enjoyed international acclaim and made its name as the place to be for music fans, crate diggers, deejays and vinyl lovers. Approximately 550 dealers from all over the world offer the greatest choice of vinyl, cd’s and other pop memorabilia. Additionally, you can wander through exhibitions, meet and greet live acts, attend book signings and join the pop quiz.

As part of this 44th edition, the fair is hosting a sixties/seventies Detroit exhibition, showing original artwork from the beginning of the careers of Iggy Pop & the Stooges and MC5. Special guest is former manager of MC5, John Sinclair.
