Natali Felicia by Blanca Linder

Swedish-born Natali Felicia is a breath of fresh air. She has released two of the year’s most astonishing songs, both of which recaptured pop music’s timeless narrative. First up was “Used To Be” in March, a jaw-dropping mixture of melancholy, relatability and catchiness. It was followed up this summer with the epic grandeur of “Easy Ride” whose accompanying video somehow managed to be as stratospheric visually as it was musically.

Felicia’s music creates a world that’s entirely her own and is soundtracked by a vast, sweeping tunefulness that debunks the myth that pop is a dirty word. She describes her songs as pop, but with a caveat: “It’s not happy pop, it’s a dark world but there’s still some hope there. You can see the light in the tunnel but it’s quite dark and dreamy.”

Her family gave her a guitar and she started playing cover versions, mainly Johnny Cash songs. She then began to write her own songs and played them live, which was a turning point. “I went to open mics and performed them and I got a really beautiful response, which really motivated me to continue. Slowly and steadily I started to find my own way.”

Mikael Häggström (Ane Brun) added drums and Johaness Berglund (The Knife) joined on mixing duties. Whilst Felicia doesn’t produce the music, she verbalises what she’s looking for from her collaborators: “I don’t know the producer part, but I can explain how I want the sound picture and what elements I want.” The songwriting process is fluid, but who writes what isn’t set in stone, she explains: “I sit with my guitar and come up with a few phrases and a melody and we work with that or it can come from Andreas or we can start something from scratch, it’s always different.”

DEMEN – ” Nektyr “

This is a debut album which is alive with confidence and well judged minimalism.  Its dream doom. when your soul is a cloud that is slowly crushed into a million soft pieces, but those pieces are delicate and tragically exquisite. There are definite moments, such as on the romantic swirl of “Niorum” or the grandiose high church atmosphere of “IIIdrop,” where you may be reminded of Dead Can Dance or This Mortal Coil. And yet the album places Orm’s impressive and evocative vocals amid shifting soundscapes which are equally haunted by the ghosts of trip hop, Industrial and dub. An album which is gothic in the true sense – without being Goth – Nektyr resists clichés, to present the sound of one woman’s finely honed vision.   This haunting music creates its own nighttime, its own stars

As Bruce Springsteen continues his sold-out Springsteen on Broadway run, he has continued to release live concerts from his archives.

Released a couple of weeks ago is Springsteen and the E Street Band live from Stockholm, Sweden on July 3rd, 1988.  This concert was part of Tunnel of Love Express tour, which was of course supporting 1987’s album “Tunnel of Love”.  What makes this concert significant, however, is that the first 90-minute set was broadcast to radio stations at the time, making it one of most known concerts in the Springsteen canon.   “Chimes of Freedom” from the show was released on an EP of the same name.  But the broadcast did not contain the full concert, which would continue for another set and three encores.  Now, for the first time, the entire concert is being officially released, remixed from the multi-tracks.

Shortly after this tour, Springsteen would disband the E Street Band.  Other than recording a couple of tracks for Springsteen’s first Greatest Hits album, the full group would not come back to together until 1999’s Reunion tour.  The concert that has just been released is the final one from the tour:  July 1st, 2000 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  Portions of this concert were included on the Live in New York City album released in March, 2001, but this is the first time you can officially hear the entire show.  Unique tracks from this show include the closing number, “Blood Brothers,” which had never been performed on a tour before.

Perhaps to tie in with the concept of Springsteen on Broadway, another recent concert is from March 19th, 1996 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  Falling between the other two concerts released, this concert was is support of The Ghost of Tom Joad and features a solo, acoustic set from Springsteen.  He had performed in this way before, but this was the first time he embarked on a full tour in the format.  Many of his familiar songs were recast with new arrangements to sit alongside newer material.

In addition, Springsteen has also released the concert from December 8th, 1978 in Houston, Texas.  This show first appeared in The Promise: Darkness on the Edge of Town boxset in 2010, but this is the first time it has been available separately.  All proceeds from the sale of this concert will go to benefit MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund.

All three newly released concerts have been mixed by Jon Altshiller and mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering.

All the shows are offered in a variety of formats: Direct Stream Digital or DSD (with 64 times the sampling rate of CD), MP3, FLAC or Apple Lossless, HD-Audio (24 bit/192 kHz, FLAC-HD or ALAC-HD) and CD-R ($26.00).  A CD-R plus MP3 package is also available for each.

All previous ten volumes of The Bruce Springsteen Archive Series are available at Springsteen’s official live store for download and physical purchase.

A special reminder: all titles are on sale today for Cyber Monday (25% off CDs, 50% off downloads)!

Swedish Singer Songwriter Natali Felicia has released her double single “Run Like the River” / “This Summer is Cruel” this past spring. And so we were beyond excited at the news of a new track from the ethereal Stockholm songstress (who happens to be the daughter of renowned Swedish actor Kjell Bergqvist and fashion icon Yvonne Ryding.)

As it happens, “Say It” only makes us love her more. At once both sylvan and celestial, as serene as a forest, as sweeping as the Heavens, the song mixes Depeche Mode synth atmospherics, thundering drums and Felicia’s haunted, impassioned vocals. Indeed, the lyrics are something of a call to arms, as she fiercely proclaims, “Standing here we won’t run away / Standing here we say it louder than we’ve done before.”

“‘Say It’ is simply a song about people uniting to be stronger together,” she explains. “I wanted to paint a vision of people joining forces, ready to speak up and fight together – as we are and will always be stronger together.”

Considering the current state of just about everything, her timing couldn’t be more urgent.

You can imagine John Peel’s hurriedly inaccurate summation of a cold and unforgiving Swedish winter as he juxtaposes the big-jumper-like welcoming warmth of Hater. Their lush and tempered guitars are an almost Marr-approved Smiths-like foil for Caroline Landahl’s beautifully accented and accentuated vocal – it’s a heartwarming brew.

“We know little of their home town, Malmo,” Peel might have mused, caught up in Hater’s minor chord world weariness, “ Indeed. Hater are new to the game. This year’s well-received debut album, ‘You Tried’ earned comparisons to Alvvays, The Pretenders and even Jefferson Airplane, eclectic for sure, but that’s just incidental.

Their new EP distinguishes their very own super polished and intricate guitar-led dreamy pop. Featuring their first single for Fire Records, the wonderfully forlorn and truly lovesick ‘Blushing’ (we’ve all been there) and ‘Rest’ with its haunting monosyllabic guitar break, a super-clean chiming motif that seems like a closing salvo before it regains momentum and brings proceedings to a suitable climax, welcoming back Landahl for one last chorus.

The echoey eeriness of ‘Red Blinders’ could have come right out of the bubble blowing indie pop hey days of the early ‘80s, while ‘Penthouse’ is a chunkier c86 groove with a wind blowing through its motorik rhythm.

Hater release their new EP ‘Red Blinders’ on December 1st on Fire Records.

“Their ability to effortlessly write songs that are devastating in their lyrical impact yet bewitching to hear is only rivaled by a few.” Revue

“Their unique take on rock music feels familiar and lived-in, taking bits from indie-pop, post-punk, and classic rock.” Stereogum

“Gorgeous, achingly bittersweet vocals, perpetually swaying between comforting and devastating.” Gorilla Vs Bear

“Talk Pyramids” is the sixth episode of The Light in Demos, a video project produced, written, directed, recorded, shot and edited by The Tallest Man on Earth.

Mountains of the Moon is an indie-folk band from Stockholm and here you can listen to their song “Bayou”. They wrote and recorded it in recent months, Members of the band are Adam Huttunen , Martin Zaar , Jessica Tjörnmark and Alexander Lund . After the Swedish indie band Mountains of the Moon released their calm yet sometimes enthusiastic single ‘Translucent Amber’ they are now back with a more sinister and thoughtful track called ‘Bayou’. It brings you into a 7min reflection of yourself. So it’s ideal for those who need some time for themself.

we released a song called Caterpillar. It comes with a music video that we filmed during a few very cold January weeks. There are some people to thank for making this possible: First of all Kamilla Halid, the wonderful dancer in the video. Confidencen for letting us film in their beautiful theatre. Kalle Hörnfeldt for mastering. And of course you guys for all the support.

“Ease My Mind” is the fifth full-length album from Swedish pop masters Shout Out Louds, and their first since 2013’s Optica.

“Ease My Mind” celebrates music as a means of escape, a need to take a break from feeling petrified with fear,” Shout Out Louds’ Adam Olenius and Bebban Stenborg write. “The world is a different place now than it was in the beginning of the 2000s. We didn’t grow up very aware of political messages in music and probably didn’t feel much of an urgent need to understand the world around us, in that sense. However, that has changed over the years. The world has seemed extremely dystopic and frail for quite a while now, and having children and getting older forces you to open your eyes to issues more devastating than heartbreak and feeling lost. But in our music, we still allow ourselves to address things the way we always have: through emotions rather than analysis. Ease My Mind is a lot about that for us.”

“Same Ghost” is the second episode of a video project I started working on . I’ve decided to produce, write, direct, record, shoot and edit a series of videos by myself and release them here as I finish them. Each video features a demo of a new song or a cover that I record live on camera (except when friends join, their parts will likely be overdubbed).

While I love playing shows, and will get back out on the road eventually, I’ve found myself wanting to record what’s right in front of me, but not just through song, and not months or years after the fact. And while making music is endlessly inspiring, so is being quiet enough to stare at the way the light hits the barn.

I want to share the light and the sound, but not without a bit of risk – I’m not used to sharing demos – and not without a bit of uncertainty.  Subscribe to my channel to see them as they happen. I hope you enjoy.  K.M

Hailing from Sweden, but living in Barcelona Louise Lemón still is more rain than sunshine, describing her sound as death gospel she recorded this new single in a cabin deep in the woods of Dalarna and just finished mixing it in Seattle with American record producer Randall Dunn (Thurston Moore, Sunn 0))), Chelsea Wolfe).

Up and coming death-gospel female artist Louise Lemón hails from Sweden and intertwines the dark, windy and cold Scandi ambiance into her music. Having recorded her debut EP “Purge” in a haunted cabin, the setting is eerie and many light years away from the current pop landscape. The single “Appalacherna” is airy, dreamy, dusty, nostalgic and melancholic, but the official video, shot in the Californian desert  is… airy, nightmarish, dusty, nostalgic and… mysterious on the verge of disturbing…
