Starcrawler!! Need we say anymore?? , Got a feelin these LA punks are going to feel right at home in the Pit!

Starcrawler are a Los Angeles rock band who formed two years ago when lead vocalist Arrow de Wilde first met drummer Austin Smith. Shortly thereafter, she found guitarist Henri Cash at her Echo Park high school and LA native Tim Franco (bass). They play with squalling riffs and thundering beats, and their incendiary performances, fronted by de Wilde’s otherworldly magnetism, recalls nothing as much as a youthful amalgam of the Cramps, the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs, and Alice Cooper.

They released their debut single “Ants” in 2017 and London DJ Matt Wilkinson quickly discovered the track and played it on his Beats One show, after which the track made its way to Zane Lowe and Sir Elton John, both of which spun the track repeatedly. The band made several trips to the UK and Europe over the remainder of the year and opened for bands such as the Foo Fighters and Black Lips in the USA. Starcrawler  released their debut album on January 19th, 2018 recorded with Ryan Adams in his Pax AM studio in Hollywood. It features their present single “I Love LA” and is out everywhere on Rough Trade / Beggars.

Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!

Parquets Courts’ fifth album Wide Awake! – produced by Danger Mouse – is a groundbreaking work, an album about independence and individuality but also about collectivity and communitarianism. The songs, written by Andrew Savage and Austin Brown but elevated to even greater heights by the dynamic rhythmic propulsion of Max Savage (drums) and Sean Yeaton (bass), are filled with their traditional punk rock passion, as well as a lyrical tenderness. The record reflects a burgeoning confidence in the band’s exploration of new ideas in a hi-fi context.

Seedlings All

Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker have revealed heavenly new track “Bathed In Light” from their upcoming new album ‘Seedlings All’ due to be released 23rd March. the release also includes a Bonus CD of three previously unreleased tracks.

Josienne explains the background to “Bathed In Light”: “As a performer I’ve always been torn between my need for attention and my fear of how exposing it is, especially as a songwriter. In that 30 seconds before the first note when the audience is silent and the lights are on you, I’m gripped with nerves and I ask myself ‘why do you put yourself through this?’ This song is basically the narrative that runs through my head as I sweat and panic. I want it to go well, and my stage fright has always come from a fear that I’m not really made of strong enough stuff for a performing career but I’ve gone and wasted my life trying to do it and what else would I do and by the second or third note I love it…..”

Having made a name for themselves with squalling riffs, thundering beats and their incendiary live shows oozing Arrow de Wilde’s otherworldly magnetism, Starcrawler are truly captivating. Recorded by Ryan Adams on analog tape at his Pax-Am studio, the 10-song album proves that yes, this foursome are making rock and roll exciting again!

Formed in 2015 when 18-year-old lead vocalist de Wilde first met guitarist Henri Cash at their Echo Park high school. Cash has played guitar since his hands were big enough. Today, he could rival his idol Jack White. He’s often so lost in adrenaline he doesn’t know his fingers are bleeding. At the Echo last year, he broke his nose onstage and didn’t realize it until he saw his disfigured face at a photo shoot the next day.

Shortly thereafter they were joined by the rhythm section of Austin Smith (drums) and Tim Franco (bass). Smith, the eldest, carries the air of a Venice skater but grew up in Hollywood. His rhythmic partner, Franco, is the quiet one. “I thought Tim looked like a prick [at first],” Cash says. “But he’s the nicest guy.” If ever there were an attack on Starcrawler, de Wilde assures that the rhythm section would defend them. “They’ve got the guns,” she says.

Ryan Adams has been tweeting up a storm about them saying things like “This Starcrawler record is gonna peel the paint off your brain!” and “Starcrawler are so fucking insanely good. Soon they will rule this galaxy.” After signing to Rough Trade Records earlier this year, they quickly released their debut single Ants, which caught the ear of Elton John who played the track on his Beats 1 radio show. Soon after, they were on the cover of LA Weekly – their hometown paper. The headline was “With Fake Blood and Frenetic Songs, Starcrawler make rock feel dangerous again”. In the article, Arrow describes that “bands are boring nowadays” and that “there’s no mystery”. That helps explain a little bit of why their shows have become the stuff of legend.

This will be the bands Second limited 7″ on Rough Trade. Starcrawler taken from their newly released Ryan Adams– produced debut album. Starcrawler hail from Los Angeles and were formed a year ago . Shortly thereafter, the streets of Hollywood brought them the rhythm section of Austin Smith (drums) and Tim Franco (bass). Starcrawler are the future of the rock n’ roll legacy of bands like Kiss, X, Sonic Youth and The Stooges.

When the band launch into their song “Pussy Tower.” (“It’s about giving head, whatever,” shrugged Starcrawler’s frontperson Arrow de Wilde, Once the song gets underway, de Wilde disappears from view, then re-emerges and spews blood over the audience. Some scream, others laugh. It’s some party trick.

Starcrawler have been gigging around L.A. for a year, often with fellow glam-punk revivalists The Lemon Twigs. Chances are you’ll hear about their fluid-secreting rock & roll before you see it.

When it comes to the music, Starcrawler are so conscientious that, in a bid to “look pro,” they recorded their first single, “Ants,” and its B-side, “Used to Know,” before even playing a gig. “Ants” is a literal anthem about the summer ant infestation that plagues Cash’s house annually. It’s fast, furious and was written as quickly as it plays out. “Ants” was played on Beats 1 radio by Elton John. “It’s funny ’cause people were like, ‘Elton John’s playing your song,'” .

Starcrawler have found a kindred guide in singer-songwriter producer Ryan Adams, who recorded their forthcoming debut LP on analog tape at his Pax-Am Studio in Hollywood. Adams discovered the band while following de Wilde’s mom Autumn on Instagram; like many rock musicians, Adams has been photographed by the elder de Wilde. When mom passed the message along to Arrow, her response was like someone hearing of a long-lost uncle: “Ryan Adams? I hadn’t heard that name in years.”

Starcrawler are definately the future of the rock n’ roll legacy of bands like Kiss, X, Sonic Youth and The Stooges.

Today our favourite musical folksters Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker have announced that they will release their fifth album ‘Seedlings All’ on 23rd March on Rough Trade Records.

’Seedlings All’ is Josienne & Ben’s first album to be made up of all original songs and is songwriter Clarke’s most autobiographical work to date. She explains: “For the first time I’m out there alone with a bunch of songs that expose my insecurities, fears of failure and inflated pride. They deal with my own specific thoughts and feelings about the reality of pursuing this kind of career, the cost to personal relationships, circumstance and lifestyle, and asking the question – “Is this still worth it?”

It’s this theme that informs the album’s stunning opening track “Chicago”, which the duo have unveiled today along with a video by filmmaker Bob Gallagher (the man behind many of Girl Band’s visuals).

Of the track, Josienne explains: “We drove all day to get to Chicago, but then NO ONE came to the gig. It was one of those gigs where you wonder whether it’s even worth going on, but we’re sticklers for a contractual obligation, so we played.  After our set one of the guys from the support band said to me that he thought an hour set of our music was “a bit long” because “it’s the kind of music you have to listen to and think about and it’s Saturday and no one wants to do that”.  So I was sitting at the bar drinking my quadruple Bulliet bourbon thinking “fuck this, I’m not doing it anymore, the world is not made for my gift!” and then I realised that I was being a knob and that’s just how it is, we’re not the fucking Beatles and we have to start somewhere, we played to no one in the UK and we’d have to get used to it here too. So I wrote this song mainly to have a word with myself about not being a massive diva….”

Having spent last Autumn honing their already incredible live show supporting Richard Thompson across the UK, we’re sure there won’t be any empty venues on the BBC Folk Award-winning pair’s upcoming European tour

LA rockers Starcrawler – described by Gigwise as “simply the most exciting and best band Rough Trade have signed in years” – have announced details of their upcoming self-titled debut album. Recorded by Ryan Adams – who rightly states the album “is gonna peel the paint off your brain!” –  on analog tape at his Pax-Am studio, it will be released on 19th January 2018.

‘Starcrawler’ is available to pre-order digitally and on CD and LP , where bone white vinyl and a 200 copy limited edition alternative sleeve are available from the Rough Trade webstore. A limited edition calendar (ex-US) is also available to make sure you crawl into 2018 properly.

The band have also revealed the official video for “I Love LA” from the album, Directed by frontwoman Arrow’s mum – aka famed music photographer Autumn de Wilde –  it features levitation, a whole lotta donuts and moves that prove why Starcrawler being hailed as the most thrilling live band to emerge from Los Angeles in years.


Los Angeles’s most thrilling new band and recent Rough Trade signing Starcrawler have unleashed a video for their next single “Let Her Be”. Buy/stream the track and, if you dare, watch the clip which features a possessed frontwoman Arrow de Wilde and some demonic guitar solos from Henri Cash.

“Let Her Be” is the first track to be heard from the LA four-piece’s debut album. Produced by Ryan Adams who describes the band as “the future of the Rock ‘n’ Roll legacy of bands like KISS, X, Sonic Youth and the Stooges,” it is due for release in early 2018 (full details coming soon!).

“Let Her Be” video director J. Casey Modderno who describes the vision he had for it: “One of the first things I noticed about Starcrawler was the almost demonic energy that Arrow has on stage – crabwalking, spitting blood…. so we just decided to run with that concept which we already saw in their live show, that when Starcrawler performs, Arrow becomes possessed by literal demons. “Let her Be” is also a sort of tug of war, or call and response, Henri gets the first verse, and Arrow gets the second – so we wanted to incorporate that into the video too, that Arrow is somehow trying to get at Henri, draw him into this possession circle with her… she finally does and everything turns metal as Hell while Henri rips a completely evil solo.”


With a front woman who Classic Rock describe as “what would have happened if Ozzy Osbourne and Patti Smith had got together in 1975 and had a kid,’ and tunes which Shirley Manson says “you’ll be singing all day,Starcrawler’s visceral and immensely fun live show is not to be missed! Goat Girl have a gang and they want you to be in it. Based in South London and signed to Rough Trade, the four-piece have spent 2017 signing up as many new members as possible. Speaking amidst the hum and fumes of a busy Streatham High Road, where she’s taking a break from recording sessions at producer Dan Carey’s home studio, singer and guitarist Clottie Cream gets straight to the point. “We’re big on meeting people,” she says. “We talk to fans after shows, they might be doing interesting things like setting up their own gigs that we can play at. I hate when musicians get big for their boots, those relationships are really important. You can connect to people really easily, it’s nice.”

Their numerous shows at Brixton’s Windmill caught Rough Trade’s attention and led to a record deal. But to say they haven’t looked back since would be wildly inaccurate. You’ll still regularly find the group – completed by guitarist L.E.D., bassist Naima Jelly and drummer Rosy Bones – creating “special energy and letting out anger” on bills at the Windmill, Peckham’s Montague Arms and various other back rooms in the area. “Those gigs are the ones we enjoy most, it’s home, where we started,” says Clottie. “Tim Perry at The Windmill has enabled bands like us to be known to the public, and his nights are always good so we want to be playing them. We’ll do bigger support tours, but we don’t want people to be left out so we’ll keep doing smaller gigs.”. The singer is happier discussing their songs – sharp, furious, political little beasts, submerged in moody atmosphere. Check out new single Crow Cries – online now and due on 7” next month – for an example. “If people listen to your lyrics, why not make them interesting and inspiring?” she deadpans, reasonably. “We’re allowing for issues to be spoken about, you just have to be sincere about it, that’s integral.”

This Is The Kit released her fourth album Moonshine Freeze earlier this month and it’s a brilliant listen.

You can watch out the wonderful visuals for her song “Hotter Colder” off the new record, filmed at Warleigh weir near Bath.

“My thinking was coming from a very dark murky underwater place, and James’ thinking was more of a joyous fun approach,” Kate Stables explains. “For him “Hotter Colder” is a happy song so we ended up kind of meeting in the middle. Me and Rozi larking about, but on a rainy day in a murky river.

Every month Rookie, a website that’s devoted to supporting and encouraging teenage girls and women, selects a theme song. This month they enlisted the enchanting teenage wunderkind SOAK to cover the St. Vincent glittering anti-technology jam “Digital Witness.” In 18-year-old Bridie Monds-Watson’s rendition, the song becomes a destroyed lullaby — a bedtime lull for dystopian times. When she sings “Won’t somebody sell me back to me?” in her pert, childish voice it’s a devastating, ironic twist on the capitalist commentary imbued in Annie Clark’s original. Given how coveted teenagers are as consumers, and how toxic most of this advertising is, it’s an even more harrowing line when Monds-Watons delivers it. This girl deserves to be as big as Lorde, and her ability to refashion Clark’s song in her own image proves it.
