Gallery 47, very much the brain child of Jack Peachey, an English graduate from the University of Nottingham currently studying for an MA in English Literature. He makes fantastic music, recently found supporting Paul Weller on European tour dates. And I think this is fantastic, I hope you agree. Gallery 47’s “It’s Been a Long Day.”

Jack Peachey, a musician from the city of Nottingham, UK. He is known for his finger style guitar work, soft tenor vocal and abstract lyricism which draws influence from the 1960s folk poet scene. He has recorded 2 independent studio albums, “Fate Is The Law” (2011) and “All Will Be Well” (2014).

Notable shows have included appearances at T in the Park Festival and The Union Chapel (voted the number 1 music venue in London by Time Out Magazine). He recently joined Paul Weller for a few shows on his 2014 European Tour, also supporting acts like Ian McCulloch (Echo and the Bunnymen), Scott Matthews and Kitty, Daisy & Lewis. In addition, he has recorded live sessions for the BBC and Q Magazine and his songs have been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6music, XFM London, Kerrang Radio and many other regional shows. In September 2013, he was featured as The Guardian’s, “New Band of the Day”.

Dot to Dot Festival is a triple-city, new music festival which takes place in Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham over the late May bank holiday weekend of the 27th, 28th and 29th. Well-known for championing bands as they are about to break, Dot to Dot have showcased the likes of Ed Sheeran, The 1975, Mumford & Sons, Jake Bugg and The XX since establishing in Nottingham, way back in 2005.

This year’s lineup is no exception. Eclectic as ever, the likes of Mystery Jets, Augustines, The Temper Trap, Sundara Karma and Lauren Aquilina are set to feature over the three dates. We love this year’s line-up so much that we’ve put together a list of 10 artists you should probably check out if you’re thinking of heading to any of the cities, including some you’ve probably not heard of before.

The Bristol leg of the festival is strewn around the city from the Exchange to the O2 Academy to The Louisiana and Thekla, among many other cafés, clubs and pubs. As we’ve experience how overwhelming it can get trying to catch so many acts in so little time, we’ve prepared a compact list to guide you through the mayhem!

Fenne Lily

Expect nothing less than poetry and a voice to bring you to tears from this Bristolian rising star. Despite having only one song, “Top to Toe”, available on Soundcloud, the three and a half minutes of beautiful lyrics and soft melody are enough to hook us in.

Rat Boy

Rat Boy aka Jordan Cardy has been royally tearing it up wherever he goes. Labelled as the new Jamie T, Cardy and his band create a real vibe and a ruck in their live shows and have built up a loyal following thanks to prime time radio play of singles ‘Move’ and ‘Sign On’.

Liberto Wolf

This four piece Bristol-based band has enough heart-wrenching lyrics and passionate guitar riffs to make your heart vibrate. Their single, “Everyone Wants to Hurt You”, delivers the perfect alt/post rock vibe on a bed of dark words and smooth licks that sound even better live.

Sundara Karma

The young band from Reading, Sundara Karma, will also take to the stage at this year’s festival.  The indie four-piece are quickly becoming known on the band scene after supporting a variety of popular bands, appearing at a number of festivals and having their own headline tour last year.

Also releasing two EP’s filled with beautifully crafted indie anthems, ‘EP I’ and ‘EP II,’ frontman Oscar Lulu commented: “We’re hoping 2016 is going to be our year, we’re going to f*****g go for it… and maybe not party so hard.”

With their music filled with shimmering guitars and hooks, the bands singles can immediately grasp an audience’s attention from the onset. The distinct vocals from the front man, Lulu, are instantly recognisable and all four members of the band equally display their talent across their memorable singles.

Night Beats

It’s that mix of psychedelic tones and R&B which make Night Beats so unique. It’s blues, contorted and distorted in to new shapes for 21st century wastoids. And we love it.

New Palace Talkies

If you miss New Palace Talkies, you are making a very big mistake. Another notable member of Bristol’s promoter Chivern’s fleet of boundless talent, New Palace Talkies have been making a name for themselves since their formation in 2014, and we expect nothing but big things from them this summer.

No Violet

Slow, slurred vocals and deep psych guitar licks, No Violet’s front woman’s unique croon combined with the bass-infused 60s-esque instrumental are a force to be recognised. If the taster we got from single “Your Head/ My Head” is anything like their live performance, then we’re in for a real treat.

Spring King

Similarly, Spring King are a band that have also been all over prime time radio with slacker singles ‘Rectifier’, ‘City’ and ‘Who Are You’ – all of which definitely pack a punch. They’ve just signed to Island Records and big things are expected of them, so catch them before they blow up in size.

Van Zeller

It’s going to be loud, sweaty, and bursting with energy. Van Zeller compactly represent their musical superiority in their two minute long single “She’s Moving Right”, delivering a big bite of garage inspired rock.

Eyre Llew

Nottingham newcomer trio, Eyre Llew bring their ambient alt-rock to all three legs of this year’s Dot to Dot Festival. You won’t want to miss them. Trust us on this one…

Delamere

Having recently proved their worth at The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham, Manchester’s Delamere will hit up all three cities of Dot to Dot in collaboration with Scruff of the Neck records. Listen out for their pop-hook-filled single ‘Bright Young Things’ – which is definitely what they are.

The Karma Repair Kit

If this Bristolian four piece’s awesome name doesn’t draw your attention, their loud, post-punk garage sound surely will. They’ve been building up quite the reputation in Bristol, with performances at The Louisiana, The Exchange and The Stag and Hound slowly inflating their well-deserved fan base.

http://

Little Bribes

Having already played a load of gigs in their native city of Nottingham, alt quartet Little Bribes will play the Nottingham leg of this year’s Dot to Dot on Sunday May 29th.  Look out for Little Bribes’ infectious hybrid of emo and alt-punk later this month.

Diet Cig

NYC duo Diet Cig head over to the UK this month for a tour of the country which includes all three dates of Dot to Dot. Think personable pop-punk ditties full of occasional self-deprecating delicate lyrics, perfect for a singalong we’d say.

Pale Waves

The refreshing four-piece made up of Heather, Ciara, Ryan and Hugo perfectly describe their genre as ‘reverb and glitter’. Their dreamy-indie pop vibe that the band radiate when performing live is certainly engaging, and the set up of two men and two women really makes the band stand out in a positive fashion.

The band has two singles currently available to listen to on Soundcloud, featuring their distinctive tracks, ‘The Tide’ and the track ‘Heavenly’.

The remarkable sound of the young band can be described similar to that of the Birmingham born bands such as Swim Deep, Peace and Jaws, featuring shiny riffs teamed with skating and beach-vibes.

“Brilliant and beautiful. They have a massive future ahead for them” BBC Introducing

“Another shining example of why this band is held in such regard” Drowned In Sound

Hotly-tipped Nottingham four-piece Field Studies released ‘Money of America’ on June 22nd 2015, ahead of a performance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the same month. The rising stars have been rapidly winning over both fans and tastemakers with their elegantly crafted soundscapes, set against a collage of cascading melodies and textures, and a series of stand-out live performances.

Defying their tender years, Field Studies display a maturity in their music far beyond their age, and have already found their way into the ears of smitten tastemakers such as Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, 6Music’s Tom Robinson and XFM. Track from the Fuzz Club 10″ Split Single Series available at fuzzclub.com, “Behind All Evil Is A Black Hole” is Cult Of Dom Keller’s contribution to our Split Single Series shared with the Myrrors,

Nottingham’s Cult of Dom Keller The Myrrors which is out on July 25th and now available for pre-order.

The band has been around for 7 years now, the Cult of Dom Keller?  I’ve seen the band evolve over that time,

Early days of rehearsing in a church cellar in the dark, amongst electric shocks and supernatural happenings, jamming till the sun rose, followed by a long cycle of playing gigs, working and existing on no sleep, with no money & disillusioned by a world around us, And then the pull of the universe brought us together to make music and The Cult of Dom Keller has existed ever since. There’s never been any agendas, egos or mission statement: just creating and evolving our own thing and pushing ourselves as musicians/songwriters.”

The track is called ‘Behind All Evil is a Black Hole’.  I came up with the title after I had been messing around with some mixes of a track we had been working on. We fucked around with the arrangement and then Neil began to write a melody on top, and the song came together. It’s a maelstrom of sound, and a really powerful track, that perfectly captures our transitional period in songwriting at the moment and acts as a perfect precursor to the new material that we have written for the album.”

Neil: “To me, the black hole represents life without music or creativity. The evil is all the obstacles that get in the way. I guess it’s about not giving up – not slipping into that void.”

A beautifully recorded piece of work. ‘Home’  Real music from a wonderful musician that hits you straight between the eyes. Up close and extremely personal. The subject matter might be melancholy but the recording is first rate and very soothing to listen to. A great audiophile test record. I just wish there were more than 4 tracks. Favorite track has got to be Houston In The Blind.
Not only does Daudi have an amazing voice but he’s a gifted songwriter. Really beautiful acoustic music with depth and a taste for the cinematic.

For the last 7 years these DIY sonic alchemists have been creating whacked out soundscapes and songs that appear to have been born from another universe, all from the confines of their sonic bunker.
2015 will be the year they emerge from the frothing underground and bestow upon the world their most grand and ambitious album to date.
The direction of the new material expands on the previous 2 lo-fi long-players, which both sold out on word of mouth alone, and have been consistently featured and raved about in top 10 lists of psychedelic blogs over the previous 2 years consecutively.
The group have gained most ground in the past year after a line-up change in December of 2013, at first being joined on bass by Jason Holt (lead guitarist in Pete ‘Sonic Boom’ Kember’s post-Spacemen 3 group ‘Spectrum’), and then later completed by Al Burns on drums.

Over the years they have performed at Austin Psych Fest 2011 and 2013, Milhoes De Festa and regularly toured Europe.

April 2014 they melted the minds of an over-capacity packed-out room at the legendary Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands, following Walter Roadburn’s ‘Album of The Day’ feature in February for The Second Bardo–

‘Fuzz-laden psych-pop style from the school of bands like Spacemen 3 and the Jesus & Mary Chain. The rhythm section and vocals lock into a monotonous churning, grinding juggernaut chug reminiscent of hypno-psych contemporaries Dead Skeletons, but the raw blown-out distorto guitar licks that slice over the top are more in the territory of The Heads or Aqua Nebula Oscillator when they really get going. ‘Beyond Burning Skies’ has a dual guitar splatter that’ll rip your face clean off.’

…and after the performance they were featured again – this time as one of the ‘Unexpected Highlights’ of the festival.

Christopher Paul Stelling  has a new album to be released and a gig at the Guitar bar in Nottingham the album titled “Labor Against Waste” is coming in just 3 weeks on 16th June on Anti Records world wide. With a huge tour to follow this perpetual tour. This is just the start. 69 shows, 10 countries. Illustration by Salome Iljana

Christopher Paul Stelling is not just an incredible guitarist—one who is capable of filling a room with only his dexterous finger-picking, voice, and stomp of his foot—but he’s also an excellent songwriter. Watch in the above video as Stelling performs the haunting lullaby “Dear Beast,” off his new album, Labor Against Waste,

Channelling folksters and bluesmen of the past while staying firmly planted in the present, Stelling draws from many styles to craft rich melodies on his old nylon string guitar, which he calls “Brownie.”

Stelling and a friend snuck into an abandoned warehouse in Brooklyn to shoot “Dear Beast” and the dilapidated, cavernous space fits the song’s theme of finding beauty in the ugly aspects of ourselves.

“‘Dear Beast’ is a song about a lost faith renewed through a reversal of perspective; through embracing that which is lost as a new kind faith,” writes Stelling in an email. “It’s about excepting our flaws completely, and moving on from there with them in our full embrace. It’s about taking responsibility and caring for the beast that lives in all of us and for the metaphysical beasts that we’ve created because of our inherent need to feel watched over and protected.

The Fat White Family played perhaps one of  the most memorable sets at Green Man Festival this year, here they do a song for the Green Man Sessions TV. These guys don’t really need much of a hard sell, thanks to an imitable fan base that continues to push the name out far and wide – but for the uninitiated, from Fat White Family you can expect invasive, engrossing rock ‘n’ roll and, at times, an unashamed tad of controversy in their live performance. Go and watch them, if you’ve got the balls. they will be at the Nottingham Trent during Dot To Dot,
