Spiritual Songs for Lovers to Sing – Prologue featuring demos, alternative versions and rare tracks. LUH (which stands for Lost Under Heaven) is Ellery Roberts and Ebony Hoorn. Over the past two years, they have been releasing music, art, photography, film and manifestos into the world, including 2014’s Unites video and the expansive Lost Under Heaven music and artwork package at the end of last year. Ellery’s name might be familiar as the frontman of WU LYF, whose raw and primal voice helped create a sound that shaped a new model for the untamed fury of youth. Ebony is an audio-visual artist based in Amsterdam, where the pair now live, and co-directed the new video with Florian Joahn. Spiritual Songs For Lovers To Sing is the pair’s debut album and was produced by The Haxan Cloak (known for his own genre-bending experimental compositions in 2015 on the remote island of Osea.

Following the flame-out of his beloved, volatile band WU LYF, Ellery James Roberts teams with girlfriend Ebony Hoorn on his debut album produced by the Haxan Cloak (Bobby Krlic). Somehow the best elements of both Roberts’ and Krlic’s previous work find their way to the surface.

It’s possible to hear the album as a convoluted display of too many ideas, but the forward-thinking of presenting rock vocals and song structures with influences that draw on contemporary hip-hop, EDM, and pop makes LUH one of the most important releases of the year. It’s a record that lyrically and sonically reflects our times, entering a dialogue across genres.

Described as “chiming vocal-led post-rock”, Midas Fall have carved a unique sound, combining elements of electronica, post-rock and alt-goth to create “powerful yet fragile, devastatingly beautiful and beautifully devastating” music .
2015 saw Midas Fall release their third album ‘the Menagerie Inside’ on Monotreme Records followed by their biggest European tour to date. In 2016 sees Midas Fall return to Scotland to continue writing new material .
Combining elements of electronica, post-rock and alternative rock with progressive and gothic undertones, UK band Midas Fall have carved a distinctive and captivating sound, creating taut, shimmering soundscapes led by the hauntingly melancholic vocals of Elizabeth Heaton – a sound described as “powerful yet fragile, devastatingly beautiful and beautifully devastating”.

Midas Fall’s third album ‘the Menagerie Inside’ , The record, mastered by legendary engineer Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Caspian) will feature nine new tracks and will be released in digital, CD and limited edition vinyl formats.

“Wilderness” flows by seamlessly, impressive and skin-tingling, the album track by track, play by play catapults the band well over the looming fear of that- one-album-band and sends them soaring to new heights.

Midas Fall are excellent providers of chiming vocal led post-rock and deserve extra credit for steering clear of many of the genre’s most notorious clichés. Never do they stray into the overlong territory that even legends such as Explosions in the Sky have failed to avoid in recent years, which, for a band still touring their debut album is even more impressive. The vocals are gorgeous and the propulsive rhythms and shimmering guitars make the band a genuinely wonderful way to start off the evening.

“Haunting and tender, melodious and powerful, As Our Blood Separates is an aqueous compilation that showcases Midas Fall’s ability to completely infiltrate the listener…so artfully put together you can tell no note or sound was left unexamined…fluid and moving, it will stay with you long after the echo of its final piano chord has faded.

“Amidst the atmosphere and drones, there is a poetry, with a sad voice juxtaposed. The album closes the album with a bang, with a note that resonates even after the music has stopped.

“Listening to the album is an intentionally dark experience but there’s no sense of contrivance or insincerity and there’s a lot to admire in the complexity of song structure and harmony. ‘My Radio Star’ and ‘Nautical Song’ in particular, are stunningly accomplished and demonstrate hallmarks of the band’s sound. Eleven…is an overwhelmingly enjoyable and notably competent debut and shows a band with an intricate understanding of their own style. The challenge will be to go even better than this in future.

With foundations from Manchester, W. H. Lung is a three piece that have just shared a first single that is a quite spectacular, its breathtaking near-eight minute epic.

The band, who formed just a few months ago, recorded at The Nave in Leeds and describe it as “a song that speaks to the ideas of eternity, belonging and meaninglessness.”

It was produced by Matt Peel, who’s also recently worked with Eagulls, and will be released via their own label, Hed Glo Inc. on 25th November.

Inspiration! speaks to the ideas of eternity, belonging and meaninglessness, it takes the shape of a pulsing, kraut-psych journey. The motorik nature of the track stems from W. H. Lung’s writing ethic which, with an Alesis drum machine at its core, aims to create a surrounding maelstrom of ethereal circuits and hypnotic rhythms.

Having just completed their biggest headline tour to date, culminating in a triumphant show in London, Spring King release the video to new single ‘City’. One of the most loved songs taken from their debut album Tell Me If You Like To, the video release follows a monumental year in 2016 for the Manchester garage-pop band.

The new ‘City’ clip, directed by Jack Whiteley, follows on directly from where their ‘Detroit’ video left off. In the first video, the band play different characters on a TV dating show called Euro Lover. In the ‘City’ video, the successful contestants Bartek (played by singer/drummer Tarek Masa) and Penelopete (played by guitarist Pete Darlington) go on a romantic yet doomed trip to Detroit… played by Margate.

In 2015, ‘City’ gained huge exposure as the very first track to be played by Zane Lowe on Apple’s global radio station Beats 1. Spring King have since gone on to release an acclaimed debut album, enjoyed a slew of BBC Radio 1 playlisted singles, perform on Later… With Jools Holland, tour across UK, Europe and Australia, as well as receiving a nomination for Best Breakout Band at this years Q Awards and winning ‘Live Act of the Year’ at the AIF Festival Congress Awards.

Spring King are currently on their first US tour. While in the States, the band joined Zane Lowe in the Beats 1 studio for a live interview. Spring King’s singer/drummer Tarek Musa says: “It was really exciting to meet up with Zane Lowe on our first tour of the US and talk music. It feels like everything has come full circle with ‘City’ coming out again as part of our album too.”

All the best music is made by fanatics. The kind of people who are immersed in its wonder, obsessed by the never ending panoply of electric noise.Whyte Horses are an enigmatic group from Manchester who make guitars chime like lysergic bells and sing songs so full of wonder that they make your heart ache. They shape-shift from Turkish psyche to Brazilian trip music, from acid house to electronica to punk rock to guitar classic in a heartbeat. It really shouldn’t work, but it’s synthesized that it absolutely does. There is a hypnotic beauty to their music and a poetic perfection to their muse. The band is the brainchild of Dom Thomas, a music fanatic and chronologist who scours the planet for obscure and rare vinyl genius. This obsession is in their musical DNA and Whyte Horses are the sound of people who, on the quest for the perfect record, decided to make one themselves.

Whyte Horses are a Psychedelic Pop group from Manchester music luminary Dom Thomas for his work with Andy Votel at Twisted Nerve and also his extraordinary home-made psychedelic compilations he‘d bring into the store. In both guises he excelled in the mysterious, exotic, and occasionally impenetrable. This was far-out stuff. Until now! Suddenly there is a pop group and they’re called Whyte Horses. Reconvening to a dilapidated cottage in rural Italy, with only an acoustic guitar, female buddy and some battered analogue recording gear, Dom set about creating what would become the psychedelic dream pop diamond we’re celebrating today

From their second LP entitled ‘II’,

Courteeners, The Charlatans, Blossoms, Cabbage
Ahead of the release of their fifth album, Courteeners have announced details of their biggest headline show to date.

Manchester’s Courteeners both look and sound as though they’ve come straight out of another time and place, and yet, somehow, are bang up to date. Think Babyshambles meets The Smiths and you’ll be somewhere close to their gritty, electrifying sound. Following on from their Heaton Park show (all 25,000 tickets sold out in an hour) and their record breaking seven night run at Manchester O2 Apollo, the band will play a 50,000 capacity hometown gig at Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford (home of Lancashire County Cricket Club) on Saturday May 27th 2017.

Courteeners fifth album, ‘Mapping The Rendezvous’, is released on Ignition Records on 28th October. Produced by the band’s regular collaborator Joe Cross, Mapping the Rendezvous is the band’s boldest and best album to date – a hugely confident and supremely hook-heavy collection of songs by one of the UK’s biggest rock’n’roll bands. The album features the tracks the 17th, No One Will Replace Us and Kitchen.

The Charlatans are one of the most successful bands around, having had 3 Number one albums and numerous top 30 singles. They have had to overcome many setbacks over their 20+ years career and yet still remain a major force in today’s music industry. They have never courted media hype but yet consistently sell out venues all across Europe unlike many of their peers who have fallen by the wayside. The band that never sold out and never considered nostalgia as a career path – they truly are one of the last great bands. Expect something truly special live.

Blossoms are a mosaic five piece formed in Stockport, comprising of Tom Ogden, Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock. Psyche-pop riffs, vocal melodies, a film noir meets 60s aesthetic, a range of audible references from Arctic Monkeys via Abba to The Doors – Blossoms are Stockport’s newest (and arguably finest) musical export.

Manchester’s Blossoms offer a lighter take on psychedelia, one that’s steeped in classic British pop songwriting” – NME

‘Cabbage are a neo-post punk band from Manchester, whose drum beats a different beat and whose musical axis free-wheels along its own off-centred path. A truly original band, Cabbage is steeped in satire and diverse musicianship. With Lee Broadbent on vocals, Eoghan Clifford and Joe Martin on guitar, Stephen Evans on bass and Asa Morley on drums, Cabbage appear to be making it all up as they go along, through all their evolving creativity and bursting spontaneity.’

On May 12th All for One was released and The Stone Roses provided a shock return to music. It was back in 1994 they released Second Coming: an album that was not up to the lofty and peerless standards of their eponymous debut. A lot has happened in the ensuing twenty-two years but it seems like the Manchester band are ready to release a third album. They are touring next year and Beautiful Thing is the second single from the band’s 2016’s output. Different in tone to All for One but hitting just as hard: another authoritative and joyous song from the Mancunian legends. Who knows what 2017 will hold for the band – an album or more singles – but it is great having them back – it has been far too long.

The Stone Roses have announced UK dates for 2017. The Manc Band will play three gigs at Belfast’s SSE Arena, London’s Wembley Stadium and Glasgow’s Hampden Park on the 13th, 17th and 24th June respectively.

This summer saw Ian Brown, Reni, Mani and John Squires return with their first new material in over 21 years with their “All For One” anthem and their epic, 7-minute-long “Beautiful Thing” single release.

The Manchester band also announced four huge homecoming dates at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, playing to over 240,000 fans and a star-studded crowd . The new Wembley date will mark four years since the band have played in the capital city, last playing North London’s Finsbury Park in 2013.

One of the great white Blues Rock bands, Free Live in the TV studio in 1970. What characterful and original players, Andy Fraser a bass player like no other, Simon Kirke who has a magic tempo in his head, Paul Rogers at his bluesy best and one of the greatest guitarists ever – experience the bewitching fingers of Paul Kossoff.

The result is an enthralling trip through the more immediate side of psych-rock, marrying an ear-worm of a melody with a sprawling riff.  You’d better believe the live show comes highly recommended too, catch them in the coming weeks at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia (Sept 23rd), Manchester Sound Control w/ Baby Strange (Sept 30th) and Southsea Fest, Portsmouth (October 1st).
