Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are the next cab on the rank from the Cardiff scene. Possessed of a playful take on the glam rock of the 1970s, led by Tom Rees and joined by Ed Rees on bass, Zac White on guitar and Ethan Hurst on drums. They are distilling the thrill of early Rolling Stones and T.Rex and stamping it with the Buzzard style and wit, their shows have elicited wild scenes in recent months.

Splicing the classicism with an individual wit, a cheeky grin, and an array of stone cold hip shaking rockin’ tunes. Having appeared on a split EP last year with Boy Azooga on cool Cardiff imprint Bubblewrap it marked Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard out as a coming force, now with their moniker trebled Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and an album apparently in the can, they are certainly ones to watch this coming year.

Their debut single proper ‘Double Denim Hop’ confirms it. An ode inspired by the confidence inspired by wearing two pieces of denim, this urgent rock’n’roll splattered track is infused with effervescent energy that is somehow both redolent of the Sweet‘s Blockbuster and T.Rex‘s ‘Ride a White Swan’yet isn’t a boring homage to either. Reassuringly, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, this tune swaggers down the street with nifty guitar licks and vocal lip curls like the New York Dolls on their holidays, bursting into a super singalong chorus, far from pastiche this is utterly addictive, get up and dance now!

This annual Easter weekend indoor family festival isn’t really for fans of Indiepop, a genre that covers primarily independent DIY jingly-jangly guitar bands loaded with catchy pop hooks.

Amongst the line-up this year are 6Music faves Honeyblood and Girl Ray, along with the Brian Wilson-esque talents of BC Camplight, the ever witty Chris T-T and the noisy punky-pop of Joanna Gruesome. Two rooms of live bands plus DJs, stalls, cakes, balloons and bunting ensure a good time for parents and children alike.

Cardiff band Estrons have revelled in their foot-to-the-floor pace. Charging ahead from day one, their sugar rush punk-rock has been as breathless as they come. ‘Call You Mine’, the closer of their ace new ‘She’s Here Now’ EP, sees the speedometer drop.

Swaggering about the place, tearing photo frames from the walls and smashing them to bits, singer Tali Källström’s is on typically biting form. “People like you can’t take it,” she spits, “and so you built a wall between us.” Probably not a snark at Donald Trump, granted, it’s nevertheless a fired up, frothing at the mouth takedown of shitty blokes and their shittier attitudes.

By the time it reaches its conclusion, the whole band are piling in, screeching about what the object of their attentions “coulda been.” Slowing things down has lost Estrons none of their fury if anything, every blow hits twice as hard.

Gulp are a Cardiff-based, garage space-pop band fronted by Guto Pryce (Super Furry Animals) & Lindsey Leven. The pair are joined by Gid Goundrey on guitar and various friends on drums including Stuart Kidd (Euros Child/Norman Blake), Kliph Scurlock (Flaming Lips/ Gruff Rhys), Gwion Lleweyln (Meilir Jones) & others.

Originally from Scotland, vocalist Lindsey moved to Cardiff to where she met Guto Pryce at a Christmas psych party  a joining of kindred spirits in a city with an ever-evolving arts scene. It was there that the foundations of Gulp came to be as they joined forces to create this musical venture.

Gulp make warm, fuzzy, luscious pop by combining ethereal sounds of both acoustic and electric drums, synths and guitars. Their music is like a road trip; the landscape and events along the way, filmic scenes and melodies – from the sun-squinting, flickering saturation and lens flare of the Californian desert, to the gloamin of rural Scottish and Welsh homescapes.

Recorded on a farm in mid Wales, new single ‘Search For Your Love’ follows on from the band’s last album release ‘Season Sun’ in 2014, which received praise from The Guardian, The Quietus, NME & a variety of other publications. Currently they’re sharing their new single ‘Search For Your Love’, which is out now via Tim Burgess’ label O Genesis.

Describing the influences behind Search For Your Love, Lindsey notes, “it’s a timeless love story really, but nods towards an eager search for love and empathy in an increasingly surreal and chaotic world.” The world may be chaotic, but Search For Your Love soundtracks it beautifully with meancing percussion, overlaid with sweeping 1980’s tinged synths and Lindsey’s sweet and almost ethereal vocal stylings. Gulp are currently working on their second album with producer Luke Abbot, which should be with us next year at some point.

ESTRONS – ” I’m Not Your Girl “

Penned by the refreshingly honest Tali Källström, the song’s about blokes who brag about girls they’ve slept with and the lack of emotional connection they had in relationships. “It’s a big song about insecurities and that cesspool of crap surrounding teenage emotions that still exist in your 20s and 30s,” she explains.

I’m Not Your Girl is a thrilling blast of razor-sharp, rock riffing and primal rhythms, recalling the likes of Weaves or Be Your Own Pet. The star of the show though is frontwoman, Tali Källström; a blur of yelping energy and observant lyricism, the track see’s her cutting down braggadocious boys and the, “cesspool of crap surrounding teenage emotions.” People have been quick to call Estrons, “socio-political” or “fearlessly outspoken”,
