They also shared the new retro video for recent single and album title track, ‘Up To Anything’.

Singer Louis Forster had this to say about the track:

“‘Up To Anything’ is the second last song I wrote for the album of the same name. I remember sitting down on the couch in my living room, it was 2 in the afternoon, the middle of summer and I hadn’t changed out of my pyjamas yet. I was waiting for James to come over, and suddenly I was playing the riff, the rest of the song came very quickly after that. The lyrics were just a snapshot of my life, which at that time felt tiresome and slow. A few weeks later I showed it to the band, and it became the standard opener for our set.”

Brisbane band The Creases let the music do the talking in the clip for brand new single ‘Point’.

Packing a heftier sound (including strings) and more hooks than ever into the song’s three-and-a-half minutes, the four-piece improvised when their more ambitious plans for the video fell through.

“We were going to do something that involved more of a concept and story but we had a few strokes of bad luck and in the end had to quickly organise, film and edit the video ourselves with the help of a couple of friends,” singer Joe Agius  “The only thing we knew we wanted for the video was for it to go hand-in-hand with the music and feel and look very natural, clean and simple and represent a fresh new start in our sound and be a clean slate for everything new to come.” The Creases, who released their debut EP Gradient last year,

This Saturday, terrific teen trio The Goon Sax kick off their Up To Anything album launch tour in sunny Sydney. The album has been getting hot press all over the world, including rave reviews in Mojo,Pitchfork, Uncut and Rolling Stone!, Chapter Music is excited to announce a new tour in the form of Brisbane teenagers Louis Forster, Riley Jones and James Harrison, aka The Goon Sax.

We fell in love with the trio The Goon Sax since the release of their early singles ‘Sometimes Accidentally’ and standout ‘Boyfriend’ which we called “a hooky three minutes that ride a down tempo wave of both laconic wit and painful longing.”

Signed last year to Chapter Music on the strength of an unsolicited demo, (the first time that has ever happened in the label’s history), the young collective have gone on to slay critics’ hearts internationally and play with the likes of US Girls, Twerps, Blank Realm and Crayon Fields,

The Goon Sax make pop music. They love the Pastels, Talking Heads, Galaxie 500, the Apartments, Woody Guthrie and Prince. The band formed at high school in 2013 when James and Louis began workshopping song ideas in James’ bedroom. Riley joined in March 2014, after a month of drum lessons, and the band played their first show a few months later. They’ve since played with the likes of Twerps, Blank Realm, Darren Hanlon and others.

New single from Sahara Beck’s new album ‘PANACEA’ With a huge buzz on this Brisbane based singer-songwriter Sahara Beck continues to grow with the announcement of her new album Panacea. Due on the 22nd April, the album was recorded in a week long session at the legendary 301 Byron Bay studios, right before it closed for good. The album sees Beck , along with long time collaborator and engineer Jeff Lovejoy exploring a number of influences from jazz and soul to glitchy beats. ‘Here It Comes’ written and produced by Sahara and co-produced with Jeff Lovejoy (Powderfinger, Tex Perkins, Evil Eddie) is a shimmering slice of sparkly indie-pop and muddy blues. Lyrically direct, full of head spinning melody and built on an irresistible groove, it packs a sting in the tail that seems to come from nowhere, yet makes complete sense. Deeply personal, Sahara explains “the song talks to the pressure, vulnerability and anxiety many of us feel dealing with day-to-day life. Looking a universal theme from a personal angle, the song is an exercise in pressure and release”.

Fresh faced Brisbane trio The Goon Sax are a band who’s influences seem almost too old for their years. They may still be in their teenage years but they cite the likes of The Pastels, Galaxie 500 and Talking Heads as influences, and make the sort of music last heard being pedalled by Postcard Records at least a decade before any of these three were even born.

Whilst we’ll have to wait for their debut album, they’ve already shared two tantalising snapshots of what to expect in the shape of singles Boyfriend and Sometimes Accidentally. Boyfriend is a plea for, “a boyfriend or just anything real”, set to a fizzing-stab of drums and guitar; whilst Sometimes Accidentally is a glorious slice of downbeat jangle-pop. Music for your heartbroken inner teenager hasn’t sounded this fresh or exciting in a very long time.

I always seem to have a huge amount of bands “on my radar and must see” – bands that have caught my attention from a small sample size of music.  One of the acts I’ve been following this year is from Brisbane, Australia known as WAAX with a brand new EP at  Christmas.

This brand spanking new four-song EP titled “Holy Sick”, is a perfect slice of ferocious post-punk. Vocalist Maria DeVita wails and growls over a sonic assault of guitars and crashing drums with a superb bass line.

Brisbane has a very proud history of producing brilliant rock acts, with the garage sound pretty much perfected in the sunshine state’s capital. With WAAX, we have something a bit wilder, with a dangerous edge that draws your attention in a totally captivating way. They’ve turned the standard Brisbane rock sound on its head in 2015 and we’ve loved every minute of it. Debut EP, Holy Sick, is a riotous affair  and my introduction to the four-piece

Marie Devita’s opening scream of, “I’m just a girl,” will leave you with little doubt in your mind that she’s a lot of things, none of which consist of her being ‘just’ anything. She’s a force of nature throughout ‘I For An Eye’ and the EP’s title track ‘Holy Sick’, before showing she and the band are far from a one note act on my favourite EP cut, ‘CC Thugs’. That last one is rock perfection and enough for me to believe that there is a very bright future ahead for Brisbane’s new face of rock.

Brisbane band , Vancouver Sleep Clinic – the vancouver sleep clinic camp was frustratingly dormant all year, but project architect Tim Bettinson has promised something substantial in 2016.  whether that something is an album or an ep remains to be seen, however.

Growing from the band’s 2013 EP Like A Thief, Art Of Sleeping’s debut full length relies more on a guitar driven, percussive rock sound, combined with tracks that are delicately layered in synth and keys. All of that combined with Caleb Hodges’ gorgeous vocals and we have got a winner.

It is a raw, honest look at the downside of being in love, weaving through tales of desperation and heartache. One of the album’s most poignant moments is the simple, stripped back Burning Bright, breaking up all the noise. Album highlight has to be ‘Crazy’ with its groovy melodies and battling guitars and percussion and silky smooth vocals. Its so great to see how far Art Of Sleeping have come over the last few years.

Holy Holy have announced the release of their debut UK album ‘When The Storms Would Come’.

Recorded on 2-inch tape and produced by Matt Redlich, the album is due for release on November 6th.

In support of the album release, the band will perform three shows in the UK including Liverpool Music Week and London’s Lexington.

You can listen to the band’s latest single ‘You Cannot Call For Love Like a Dog’
