A Carefully Planned is one of many UK rapidly expanding metropolitan festivals but very few offer as many delights for so little money as Manchester’s weekender that celebrates its 5th birthday in 2015. Offering up 150 artists over two days for £17.50 (or £12.50 for a single day ticket) across seven venues, it presents a line-up of such quality and quantity that it’s almost frustrating. And all of this is before considering how much time you’ll want to spend working through the choice of real ales and whiskeys at The Castle Hotel or the cocktails at Cord, and choosing whether to eat at the Night & Day Cafe or at The Soup Kitchen.

Amongst all of the pop, indie, indie-pop, rock, post-rock, math-rock and Lord knows what else,

Returning to Manchester’s Northern Quarter for the 5th time, ACPF is a true gem of the local DIY scene. Organised entirely by volunteers, this event has played host to the likes of the now established names like Alt-J, Everything Everything and Peace.  As a result, it has acquired a significant local following and reputation for smart bookings and friendly vibe. As well as new music, expect to hear more alternative under-the-radar sounds, with this year’s very strong psych showing being a big draw.  With criminally cheap weekend tickets costing just £17.50, it is a must for anyone looking to see established names as well as getting a flavour of up-and-coming talent. In addition to the bands, this year’s brand new Merch Bazaar will feature very special editions of festival posters designed by the local artist Joy Morris.

Music highlights: Ashtray Navigations, Crushed Beaks, Hannah Lou Clark, ILL,  Kagoule,  Moscow Transport, Marsicans, Mechanical Owl, Mind Mountain,Trembling Bells

Yesterday at the The Bowery Ballroom in New York City, Ryan Adams was amongst a cast of musicians who took the stage at the  Neil Fest, a show in which performers paid tribute to the tunes of Neil YoungThe Bowery Ballroom venue in NYC holds an annual tribute to Neil Young, titled what else, NeilFest. Yesterday, on the first of two nights, Ryan Adams covered 2 tunes accompanied by Norah Jones on the second.  Watch below via fan videos shot from the front row!   a two-night series celebrating the music of Neil Young. During the performance he covered a few classic Young tracks “Cinnamon Girl,” and “Old Man” with an assist from Norah Jones, and “Helpless,” led by vocalist Valerie June and featuring cameos from Body/Head and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ guitarist Nick Zinner.

Adams hammered out an excellent rendition of “Cinnamon Girl,” before having Norah Jones join him for a tender version of “Old Man.” You can watch both magical moments.

The all-star lineup of musicians converged on the Bowery Ballroom to pay tribute to Neil Young. The occasion  Neil Fest, a two-night benefit show that’s raising money for the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund on behalf of the Jameson Neighborhood Fund. Last night’s show was the first of the two nights, and its lineup included Ryan Adams, Norah Jones, Jakob Dylan, Body/Head, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner. A few videos have shown up on the internet, and they include authoritative, stripped-down version of “Cinnamon Girl” cover from Ryan Adams. Then Norah Jones sang backup on that one, and she also joined Adams for a duet version of “Old Man.” Jakob Dylan took on “Southern Man.” And Valerie June led the night’s entire lineup through a singalong version of “Helpless.” .

He was later joined by Body/Head, the duo consisting of Kim Gordon and Bill Nace, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Nick Zinner. The show closed with ‘Helpless’ performed as a collaborative finale led by Valerie June.

“Interlopers” is the new single from The Megaphonic Thrift’s new album “Sun Stare Sound”. Proving that the festival’s international sobriquet is no idle boast, The Megaphonic Thrift continue the rich tradition of Scandinavian psychedelia that has been a feature of previous PZYK incarnations. Hailing from Bergen, Norway, the quartet specialize in a driving sonic assault that tests the outer limits of psych pop. At one recent gig, the NME described The Megaphonic Thrift’s output as “face-meltingly intense”.

Simple Things returns to Bristol in 2015 with a special opening party on the Friday and a full day of musical diversity on the Saturday. Full lineup and ticketing information at: www.simplethingsfestival.co.uk.

This year’s standalone opening party will be headlined by legendary Montreal post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Initially formed in 1994, the band has become revered among the greatest purveyors of their widescreen, orchestral strain of rock music, with 2000’s Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven regarded as one of the genre’s definitive landmarks. Armed with this year’s superb Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress, the nine-piece will fill the very farthest reaches of Colston Hall’s grandiose main room on Friday night.

Brooklyn-based experimental math-rock adventurers Battles head up the main festival bill, picking up where Liars left off last year. The pioneering trio have returned in 2015 with rumours of a third long-player on Warp and only a handful of intimate, sold-out shows worldwide. This will be an extremely rare headline performance for the band.

Arthur Jeffes brings his current incarnation of the highly regarded Penguin Cafe (previously Penguin Cafe Orchestra), an array of classically trained musicians mixing hypnotic, Philip Glass-style minimalism with folk and world music. Percussive and string music that magics up something mesmerising in sound.

Post-punk/art-punk royalty Wire bring their extensive back catalogue, including cuts from peerless 1977 debut Pink Flag, to proceedings, while Gabe Gurnsey and Nik Void will be flying the Factory Floor flag and offering their trademark propulsive percussion and convulsive synths.

Dean Blunt – renowned for consistently delivering compelling and unpredictable performances, often emitting ferocious strobes, dry ice and searing emotional catharsis – will also be stepping on stage.

One of the originators of Chicago’s ghetto house sound and Dance Mania stalwart DJ Funk will also be playing a rare live performance. Elsewhere recent Ninja Tune Romare will deliver his collaged, cut’n’paste style, informed by his African American Visual Culture academic background.

Time can feel long.. I wrote this song when I was fifteen, but it also seems so recent to me haha which probably makes no sense.. Though I feel through these words I have learned to understand where I was coming from and all the while letting myself love the things that were before.. so this song is a mixture of nostalgia and the longing and unknowing. The newest version of ‘Show Me’ from ‘Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful’ I do hope you like it
