Pinegrove have revealed details of a new feature length film, “Amperland, NY”, and accompanying soundtrack album to be released digitally on January 15th and physically on February 26th on Rough Trade. The film, scripted from a short story by Pinegrove’s Evan Stephens Hall and directed by Kenna Hynes, was filmed at the band’s long time home in upstate New York, known as “Amperland” to Pinegrove and their fans, prior to the house being sold by the owner earlier this year.
The film, produced in conjunction with Chromoscope Pictures, and described by Evan as “fun, hopefully poignant, definitely weird ”, includes 22 songs – a full set list length of performances – spanning the band’s entire career to date. Those new renditions of old gems, recorded live in the Amperland house by Pinegrove’s Sam Skinner, will be released as a soundtrack album – also titled Amperland, NY – at the same time as the film. Evan explains the film as “threaded by a surreal, giddy narrative – reimaginings of our songbook and first-time-imaginings of Pinegrovian tall tales.” The band viewed the project as a way of honouring the house that had acted as home, recording studio and important creative haven for their last two albums: Skylight (2017) and Marigold (2020).
Today’s news comes with the release of one of the songs from the project: a new live version of “Morningtime (Amperland, NY)”, which originally appeared on Pinegrove’s 2012’s self-released debut, Meridian, and reissued on Everything so Far (2015).
Pinegrove’s new feature film “Amperland, NY” premieres Wednesday January 13th, and its accompanying album is available Friday Jan 15th: Provided to YouTube by Beggars Group Digital Ltd./Rough Trade Records Ltd Released on: 2020-12-03

Having toured the world over following the release of their debut album ‘Songs of Praise’, Shame made a name for themselves as one of the UK’s best live bands.
At the beginning of 2021 the band released their James Ford-produced follow up “Drunk Tank Pink”, earning them a top ten chart position and cementing them as one of the heavy-hitters of the indie music scene. ‘Shame – Live In The Flesh’ is a collection of 7 songs filmed and recorded at London’s historic Brixton Electric in October 2020. it is the only opportunity to hear track from “Drunk Tank Pink” explosive material live on vinyl, played with all the energy and relentlessness that shame bring to the stage. with so many cancelled or rescheduled tours in the last year, it’s a timely reminder of how important it is to capture live recordings, and who better to do that than Shame?
Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant shaped Echo & the Bunnymen’s dreamy post-punk into something timeless. Their 1997 reincarnation sparked new life for the band, and McCulloch and Sergeant have maintained their strong appeal of passionate rock & roll. On a live setting, they’re charming and their first proper live album, “Live in Liverpool”, proves that. The duo have a weird musical madness together, and they’re comfortable with it. The two night stint captured August 2001 at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool of Performing Arts, McCulloch’s romantic brood and Sergeant’s riveting guitar work are at its best. It’s a merry collection of cult classics (“Seven Seas,”“The Killing Moon,” “Never Stop”) and new material (“SuperMellow Man,” “Eternity Turns”), but a homage to the band itself. The psychedelic bombast of “All That Jazz” is slick and savvy. Songs from the “Crocodiles” album take on that tone, but with a signature lust and a sneaky intensity. “Over the Wall” brings that side of the band to the forefront.
In a live setting, it’s eerie and alluring. “Rescue” and “The Cutter” soar with lush guitar riffs and McCulloch’s warm vocals illustrate something primitive. “Nothing Lasts Forever,” from 1997’s Evergreen, is a sweet sign of age, but it’s also graceful. McCulloch and Sergeant are fond of what Echo & the Bunnymen have become. Two nights churning out fan favourites and band mainstays in their hometown makes it much sweeter.
Recorded in 2001 at Paul McCartney Institute of Performing Arts, “Live In Liverpool” features electrifying performances of classics including “The Killing Moon”, “Lips Like Sugar” and “The Cutter.” Pressed on double 180g clear vinyl for RSD Drops to mark its first release on vinyl.
Tracklisting:
1. Rescue 2. Lips Like Sugar 3. King Of Kings 4. Never Stop 5. Seven Seas 6. Buried Alive 7. SuperMellow Man 8. My Kingdom 9. All My Colours (Zimbo) 10. All That Jazz 11. An Eternity Turns 12. The Back Of Love 13. The Killing Moon 14. The Cutter 15. Over The Wall 16. Nothing Lasts Forever 17. Ocean Rain
Live Vol.1 and Live Vol 2. This special vinyl remaster of the band’s posthumous 1995 live offering – originally offering both shows in the same package on CD – is a chance to hear The Police at two arguable artistic/career peaks. Whether you like the tight trio that shot out tuneful rockers at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre (that version of “Can’t Stand Losing You” is a favorite) or love the world-conquering ambience of their stadium gig on the Synchronicity tour (complete with even bigger chart hits like “Every Breath You Take” and “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”), it’s hard to lose with one of the best rock bands of their generation.
Vol 1 on blue coloured vinyl and Live Vol.2 on red coloured vinyl
First time on vinyl for the first official live album collection, originally released on a 2CD set in 1995, from The Police.
Two separate double LPs showcase the band in two stages:
Volume 1
Recorded in 1979 – shows a trio on the rise performing at its rawest, propelled by bassist and lead singer Sting, followed by drummer extraordinaire Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, whose guitar textures are present throughout the show.
The live gig took place at the Orpheum in Boston during the tour for their second album, “Reggatta de Blanc“, and was broadcast on local radio station WBCN at the time. It captures The Police at their most frantic and energetic.
Highlights include early hits and classics such as “Next to You”, “So Lonely”, “Bring on the Night, “The Bed’s Too Big Without You”, “Roxanne”, “Walking on the Moon” and “Can’t Stand Losing You“.
Volume 2
Recorded on the American leg of their “Synchronicity” tour in 1983 during a stop in Georgia, at a show at The Omni in Atlanta.
The show highlights a band at its peak, their already sophisticated sound being complemented by three background vocalists – Dollette Mc Donald, Tessa Niles and Michelle Cobb.
Highlights include “Tea in the Sahara”, “Every Breath You Take”, “Synchronicity I” and “Synchronicity II” as well as huge hits – “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” and “Don’t Stand So Close To Me“.

This live set was recorded in the summer of 2020 in Dublin’s historic Kilmainham Gaol. It is a ten song document of some of their best work to date put down on 180g vinyl in a gatefold jacket with an essay by author and historian Donal Fallon.
On 14th July 2020, Fontaines D.C. played a selection of songs from theirDogreland A Hero’s Death albums live at Kilmainham Jail as part of the Other Voices Courage Series. It is an old cliche for historians to ask ‘if these walls could speak, what would they tell us?’ Fortunately, the walls of Kilmainham Gaol tell us exactly how they feel. Faded with time, but still stubbornly there, are the messages of Ireland’s revolutionary generations. Over one door are the quoted words of Patrick H. Pearse, poet and leader of the Easter Rising, thundering ‘Beware of the Risen People.’ Perhaps the most evocative piece of graffiti in the prison reads simply ‘A Few Men Faithful and a Deathless Dream.’
Tuesday 14th of July, Dublin’s revered five-piece Fontaines DC played a blistering set live from Kilmainham Gaol. Kilmainham Gaol is one of the largest unoccupied gaols in Europe. It opened in 1796 as the new county gaol for Dublin and finally shut its doors as such in 1924. During that period it witnessed some of the most heroic and tragic events in Ireland’s emergence as a modern nation.
The album arrives on 180g heavyweight black LP in a gatefold jacket. Dublin historian Donal Fallon has written an essay on Kilmainham Gaol which is featured on the back cover. Includes an exclusive poster.

There was a lot of great pop music in the 1960s, and Birmingham psychedelic rock band The Move are often overlooked among the rush. They never made an impression in the US where the band they morphed into, Electric Light Orchestra, were much more successful. A lot of British bands left their best material off studio albums, and only put it on singles. The Beatles had enough great material to get away with it, but The Move hurt their album legacy by never including gems like ‘Blackberry Way’ and ‘Night of Fear’ on their albums.
Perhaps due to this policy, The Move were a very successful singles band, especially early in their career. Five of the first six Move singles placed in the UK top 5, with ‘Blackberry Way’ reaching No#1.
We are proud to be kicking off our reissue program of classic titles by 60s rock band The Move.

The Canterbury scene combined elements of jazz, folk, rock and melodic pop into a sound that bridged the gulf between psychedelia and progressive rock, and ultimately shattered all genre barriers. At the heart of the Canterbury scene was a group of musicians whose career has now spanned more than half a century: the legend that is Caravan. Who Do You Think We Are? is the ultimate tribute to the ultimate Canterbury band. This deluxe box set runs to a staggering 37 discs. All the official Caravan albums – studio and live recordings among them – are joined by eleven discs of previously unreleased live performances. A Blu-ray includes remixer extraordinaire Steven Wilson’s 5.1 surround sound mix of the classic In the Land of Grey and Pink album. In addition, a DVD includes vintage European TV performances from 1971 – 1981 (London Marquee, German TV’s Swing In, Bataclan, Paris & French TV show ‘Pop 2’).
Caravan’s long time leader is a modest guitarist, to the point of eventually bringing other players to do the heavy work. But the band made its best-loved albums as a one-guitar quartet, and Caravan’s beloved early epics benefit from Pye Hastings’ ability to swing and his knack for a heavy riff – “Nine Feet Underground” shows glory in both cases.
The lavish packaging of the set reflects the band’s stature. A hardback coffee table book features rare Caravan photos and memorabilia, and a full discography. A second Fan Club book assembles historic press articles from across the band’s career, alongside a new interview with founder member Pye Hastings. Every copy of the box includes photos signed by the three surviving members of the original Caravan line-up: Pye HastingsRichard Sinclair and David Sinclair. The celebration continues with a selection of memorabilia: a Caravan-centric map of Canterbury; a specially commissioned Caravan family tree poster, charting their long and circuitous progress; and two replica 1970s gig posters.

Signature “Loser Edition” first run limited pressing of the album on light blue with white marble vinyl. Remastered by Bob Ludwig, the new front cover features an ‘inverted’ colour scheme on a die-cut jacket and includes a booklet filled with vintage photos, handwritten lyrics, liner notes, and more. Ten copies in this limited run include a “Golden Ticket” item, a 7”x7” classic photo of the band signed by James Mercer.
Many, many moons ago, a 2004 independent directed by a sit-com lead introduced the world to The Shins in a sort of cinematic meet-cute. In reality though, the “indie band” from Albuquerque, New Mexico released their debut album Oh, Inverted Worldthree years earlier. Now, twenty years later, the group is celebrating their breakthrough album with a remastered version on fancy blue-swirled vinyl. If you’re not into that, you can also get it on black vinyl, CD, or cassette.
“This record gave me the life that I never really dreamed I would have,” said vocalist James Mercer. “It opened me up to the whole world and gave me validation. It’s also something that stands as a bit of a pinnacle for our band. You release that first record and it’s so well embraced, but you’re always trying to get that magic back, I think. We’ve done well, certainly, but the fervour that happened around Oh, Inverted World we never quite reached again. It’s a special moment when you’re a new band and you’ve got what was apparently kind of a new sound. This record symbolized a very special moment in my life, a watershed moment for sure.”
If the swirly blue vinyl wasn’t enticing enough, there will be 20 copies of anniversary edition that hold a “golden ticket,” a.k.a 7″x7″ classic photo of the band signed by Mercer. Ten editions of blue swirly vinyl will have a ticket, as well as ten of the black vinyl.
Lord Huron recently released their first new song since 2018’s “Vide Noir”, which was their best album yet. Like that album, the new song is a slightly psychedelic peice of indie heartland rock, and there’s maybe just a little Bowie/T. Rex glam in the mix too. It’s the kind of song that reminds you what you loved about the previous album.
Stepping out of the woods and into a vaster landscape of space and time, Lord Huron’s newest release “Long Lost” is a celebratory cabaret of genres, stories and characters. Beloved for their harmony-heavy hits, including the haunting ‘The Night We Met’, their fourth album levels up all their previous work, placing the act of making music right at the centre of focus.
Lord Huron have found tales in familiarity. Turning their studio into a main character and exploring the subject through months of livestream shows unveiling the world of Whispering Pines, “Long Lost” is a kind of imagined variety show. Conjuring up all the ghosts of sessions past, the band imagine who might have been there before them, and in turn have created a kind of homage to music.
Changing genres and tones as they move through characters, Long Lost is a clever take on a concept album, showing the depth and breadth of the band’s skill as they move seamlessly from traditional country on tracks like ‘Love Me Like You Used To’, to through-and-through indie on ‘Not Dead Yet’, even into Beach Boys-Esque surfer corners on ‘At Sea’. Hitting really key musical references and touching base at the heart of several genres, Long Lost has the feeling of a perfectly-curated playlist, walking you through the range of inspiration that’s always been behind Lord Huron’s music, but now letting it speak for itself. From it’s rockabilly hip-swayers to heartbreaking ballads, this record has the same perfect composition that’s a given for Lord Huron release, full of recurring imagery.
Throughout, you get the sense that the band are emulating the work of icons that have inspired them forever, getting to briefly step outside of their own lives and into the shoes of a character. This feeling of play is seen clearly in the creativity of the Live From Whispering Pines videos; a real must-watch for the album. Seemingly letting their imagination run wild, Long Lost comes along with a whole narrative back story, a ghost narrator in the form of Tubbs Tarbell and a cast of characters each with their own literature. Having been given the time free from the distraction of tours, Long Lost is a complete story and vision, a fully realised world that allows you to decide how deeply you interact with it.
At its essence, this album deals with reflection and the way memories morph with distance. Interested in approaching situations and emotions from a side view, frontman and songwriter Ben Schneider has a real skill for writing songs that are both packed with emotion and minimal in style. A real stand-out moment comes on ‘I Lied’, a track shared with the beautiful, classically country voice of Alison Ponthier. Flipping the ballad on its head and writing a bittersweet track guiltily celebrating the end of love, the song is a perfect summary of the wonder of this album; combining traditional instrumentals with genre-defying twists. Using what Ben calls “musical shorthand”, the record tricks you into bringing forth all the emotions and memories you have tied up in a particular genre or era, sometimes shredding up what you know and sometimes just letting you sit in the nostalgia, reflecting on your own experience with music and memory.
Perfectly suited to the vintage tones of the album, flowing between gentle acoustic tracks into full lung crooning, his voice and the vocal symphony built from his harmonies has an indescribable quality to it, able to make you get into your feels at a moment’s notice. So full yet so gentle, the timelessness of his country-tinged vocal ties Long Lost together, staying firmly in control of the world he’s created.
Studying the characters and diving into the narrative isn’t a requirement here, even without all that, Long Lost remains a beautiful record.
Two of the best contemporary singer/songwriter/guitarists, Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten, have teamed up for a brand new collaborative song, “Like I Used To” It was shared on Thursday via a video for the duet. John Congleton, who has worked with both artists before, produced the rousing anthem, which starts with vocals from Van Etten, before Olsen takes over and then they join forces, trading lines. To hear and see both of them singing together is quite chill-inducing. When I first heard this song a day before its public premiere.
The Track featuring Dave Hartley of The War On Drugs, Zac Rae of Death Cab For Cutie, and Griffin Goldsmith of Dawes as the backing band. It’s a gorgeous, glorious, soaring track with heart-rending harmonies and a touch of country flavour. Sharon and Angel sound as incredible together as you’d expect,
Kimberly Stuckwisch directed the accompanying video, which was shot in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree.
Olsen and Van Etten have long been mutual admirers, but have never collaborated together.
“Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this weird world of touring,” says Van Etten in a press release. “We highway high-fived many times along the way…I finally got the courage in June of 2020 to reach out to see if she would want to sing together. I got greedy and quickly sent her a track I had been working on.”
“I’ve met with Sharon here and there throughout the years and have always felt too shy to ask her what she’s been up to or working on,” adds Olsen. “The song reminded me immediately of getting back to where I started, before music was expected of me, or much was expected of me, a time that remains pure and real in my heart.”
There’s no word yet as to whether or not this is a one-off single or part of a larger project.
Earlier this month, Olsen released a new box set, “Song Of The Lark And Other Far Memories” via Jagjaguwar recordings. The set features Olsen’s albums “All Mirrors” and “Whole New Mess” along with a bonus LP titled “Far Memory” and a 40-page book.
Last month, Van Etten released “Epic Ten” an anniversary reissue of her 2010 Epicalbum, via Ba Da Bing. It featured covers of the some of the album’s songs by notable artists, including Fiona Apple, Courtney Barnett and Vagabon,IDLES, and more. Van Etten’s most recent new album, “Remind Me Tomorrow”, came out in 2019 via JagjaguwarRecordings.
