The Districts will release their new single ‘Heavy Begs’ on 27th April 2015.

The track is the latest to be taken from the band’s new album ‘A Flourish And A Spoil’ which was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen) and is out now on Fat Possum Records.  ‘Heavy Begs’ follows recent singles ‘4th And Roebling’ and ‘Peaches’ both of which found their way onto the A-list at BBC 6 Music.
With ‘Heavy Begs’ The Districts once more deliver raw and energetic blues-inspired rock. Woozy guitars are grounded by a driving rhythm and lead singer Rob Grotes’ distinctive distorted vocals.
The Districts are a young four-piece from the small town of Lititz, Pennsylvania who have been steadily building themselves a global reputation on the strength of their energetic live performances. In the first of a series of live films with Fat Possum Records, Out Of Town Films captured The Districts performing a homecoming show in Philadelphia following the release of ‘A Flourish And A Spoil’.

The Districts, from the small town of Lititz have achieved something massive and managed to fulfil their potential seen in the early album release Telephone, and their self-titled EP, the record which really threw them under the microscope and in to the limelight. Luckily for them and us the band only went further to build on tracks such as ‘Funeral Beds’ and ‘Lyla’. Their new album titled ‘A Flourish and A Spoil’ is all in all, a fantastic record. Built on classic rock riffs with the honesty of a band unperturbed by fame or fortune by finding the joy of music in it’s Capabilities. See songs ‘4th and Roebling’ and Peaches’ for the proof.

The Districts perform their single “4th and Roebling” off their new album, “A Flourish and a Spoil.”

The Districts deliver raw, rollicking power on ‘A Flourish And A Spoil’ out February 10th on Fat Possum Records. John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, Swans) produced/engineered/mixed the album at Seedy Underbelly Studio  in Cannon Falls, MN. The resulting 10 tracks capture the boisterous live performances from the quartet, who are all between 19 and 20 years old. The Districts will be your new favourite band. the single “4th And Roebling” reflects the swagger of a much older band

The four-piece band formed in 2009 while the members were still in high school in Lancaster County, PA. ‘A Flourish And A Spoil’ features singer/guitarist Rob Grote’s vocals front and center, combining equal parts ferocity and yearning as when he reflects on leaving behind suburban childhood on “Suburban Smell.” The album credits original members Grote, Connor Jacobus on bass and Braden Lawrence on percussion with Pat Cassidy joining on guitar following the departure of Mark Larson.

The Districts have toured with bands including Deer Tick, White Denim, Dr. Dog and Temples and won over fans on both sides of the pond with 2014 sets at Lollapalooza, ACL and Reading Festival, among others. As performers, they’re naturals, having the confidence and stage presence of bands twice as old and twice as popular

HotBox Sessions are filmed and recorded live.

Pennsylvania rockers The Districts say their upcoming LP “A Flourish and a Spoil” is “about how things grow but eventually fall apart, kind of like a loss of innocence, the album track “Peaches”, which “ties in with the idea of moving away from home and into Philly.”  which is set for release on 9th February 2015 through Fat Possum Records.

Resonating with a nostalgic charm, ‘Peaches’ is visceral yet melodic, as decidedly 90’s fuzz is pacified by a huge sing along chorus, culminating in a track that sits in the perfect middle ground between slacker-rock and pop, with modern bluesy elements thrown in for good measure. The track itself finds the quartet approaching these heady subjects with true rock and roll resilience, forging a triumphant medley of unrelenting drums and guitars that swing and sway like classical strings. “We won’t throw these memories away,” emotes frontman Rob Grote, mirroring the intensity and fortitude that abounds throughout this anthemic jam.

The Districts have been building quite the following this past year, and if you got a chance to see them at any festivals last year, then you understand why. Their self-titled EP released earlier this year has been one of my favorites, and with a storming set at End of the Road last year this basement session gives a small taster of their live performances and their incredible range . The band cruised over to AP headquarters before their sound check and played us a few jams in the basement.

Head on over to our youtube page for more sessions, and keep an eye out for The Districts debut LP “A Flourish And A Spoil” being released on Fat Possum on February 10th 2015.

The Districts should be your new favourite band if you like ragged US rock, country-tinged Americana with elements of blues and folk. If you like music made by young men who appear to have just stumbled out of bed. with loads of energy and a passion for their music. There are tracks on their debut EP that tap into traditional American musics and amp it up, giving it some contemporary welly, which suggests they are going to remain a cult concern. others where they evince a penchant for rocking out that hints they could be Kings Of Leon big.
