Scottish Fiction are proud to present tonic youth, the brand new single from Glasgow four-piece Wojtek the Bear. “Tonic Youth” is the first of four singles being released by Wojtek the Bear during 2019, which will be collected on a limited edition 10” vinyl, old names for new shapes, in the autumn.

Coming straight off the back of their well received debut album, a talent for being unreasonable, Glasgow’s Wojtek the Bear have wasted no time in getting back into the studio to furnish us with fresh music for 2019. Recording in the legendary Chem 19 with producer Jamie Savage [The Twilight Sad, Miaoux Miaoux, The Phantom Band, RM Hubbert], the band, with chiming melodies, pulsing bassline and swirling guitars, aim for that musical sweet spot between Camera Obscura’s Lloyd I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken and Real Estate’s It’s Real.

Of the track, lead singer Tam Killean reveals; “When I first moved into Glasgow in my early 20’s I quickly encountered people at parties I’d never been exposed to before; kids who’d never worked a day in their life, spent their summers in Val-d’Isére or Biarritz and all seemed to have fucking ponies. This song is about how initially on coming into contact with them I had a bit of a crisis of confidence, thinking that I’d wasted my life by just getting absolutely smashed from the age of 15 onwards.”

Scottish Fiction and Last Night From Glasgow are proud to present ‘Magic 8’, the lead single from Annie Booth’s new EP ‘Spectral’.

Lead single ‘Magic 8’ showcases perfectly Booth’s lyrical frankness as she concedes “This is all I have to give to you and it’s nothing”, atop elegant acoustic guitar playing and building instrumentation; exposing herself and her shortcomings to the listener with a touching sincerity. It is a song which freely admits the writer does not have the answers; delving into the feeling of hopelessness and melancholy which permeates in all our lives, whether we admit it or not.

‘Spectral’, the EP from which ‘Magic 8’ is taken from, follows on from 2017’s triumphant debut album ‘An Unforgiving Light’, and is a far more intimate collection of songs. Working with acclaimed producer Chris McCrory (Catholic Action, Siobhan Wilson) ‘Spectral’ showcases bittersweet notions set against sparse and creeping instrumentation. Affecting and dense in subject matter, ‘Spectral’ traces Booth’s maturing development as a songwriter both musically and lyrically.

Glasgow’s Acrylic prepare to kick start 2019 with the release of their infectious new single ‘I’ve Got Too Many Friends’, which came out 11th January 2019.

The single is a soaring slice of indie rock from the offset, filled with jangling hooks, sweeping guitars and effortless harmonies throughout. Frontman Andreas Chrsitodoulidis’ rich, baritone vocal feels instantly reminiscent of the likes of The National’s Matthew Berninger, giving the track an undeniably defiant and endearing sound. Talking about the single, Andreas elaborates “’I’ve Got Too Many Friends’ is about feeling as though you’ve found yourself in an ideal situation, with all the pieces falling together, and knowing that you’re still going to mess it up. It’s about a rift developing in a relationship and explores the naive idea that sex will resolve your issues, even though it will, in fact, be a colourless and sad affair and will most likely send you straight to the abyss.

Scottish Fiction Records are proud to present ‘a talent for being unreasonable’ – the debut album from Glasgow indie pop four piece Wojtek the Bear.

Following on from the success of their maiden EP, Wojtek the Bear tucked themselves away to work with in-demand producer Chris McCrory (Catholic Action) to record ‘a talent for being unreasonable’ at Shady Lane Studios in late 2017. The album opens with the pointedly percussive ‘oil & water’; a delicate introductory track. Second track, ‘the navies of landlocked nations’, metaphorically depicts close-to-home struggles against a gentle indie-pop backdrop. After the traditionalist tendencies of ‘postcode’ and the American Football-esque guitar/snare coupling of ‘kindness doesn’t cost’, the album crests at ‘waves’, a beautifully unassuming track. This kind of engaging simplicity is a skill normally found in bands far older then Wojtek the Bear, yet they deliver in spades.

The midriff of the album boasts the energetic injection of lead single ‘made out of maps’, before we are happily dragged back to the stripped-down ‘call this a war’; perhaps the record’s purest form of simplicity. effort contrasts a slacker-pop surface with a lyrical performance which questions the laid-back vibes the music…

Fresh from touring with Scottish Fiction stalwarts Mt. Doubt, vocalist and guitarist Annie Booth will released her solo debut LP ‘An Unforgiving Light’ in October 2017.

A joint venture from Scottish Fiction and Last Night From Glasgow, the record is an ambitious solo effort of puncturing melody and raw lyricism in the vein of alt-rock titan Jeff Buckley, marked by the contrasts of folk roots paired with alt-rock backing, and urgent instrumentation contrasted with introspective vocals.

The album starts as it means to go on, opening with the honest and tender ‘Demons’. Annie introduces herself in the most personal fashion in a track weathered with vulnerability and reflection. From here, the record opens up to more sonic possibilities on ‘Over My’ and ‘Little Lies’, stretching Annie’s excellent vocal capabilities as the backing grows in stature and strength.
The record’s middle section tackles poignant universal issues such as apathy, anxiety, and a loss of faith, making it’s way through a wide variety of musical textures: from delicate arpeggios, to dynamic rhythms, to glacial hymn-like vocal climbs.
