Shoegaze band Airiel, from Chicago, It’s loud. It’s pretty and you can dance to it. Airiel began as the solo project of Mr. Jeremy Wrenn back in 1997. After taking on a few more members and relocating to Chicago, Airiel really began to hit their stride upon releasing a series of excellent four song EPs, entitled Winks and Kisses, via Clairecords. Gaining them many fans and consistently being top sellers at Clairecords, Winks and Kisses marked Airiel’s official arrival to the world of modern shoegaze; by then, everyone knew who Airiel was. Since then, Airiel has gone on to release more great material, garner critical acclaim as a live act,

New tune from the band Death Cab For Cutie, The Band will Death Cab For Cutie will release their new album “Kintsugi, their last effort with guitarist and producer Chris Walla. They’ve been playing new songs live and inviting fans to piece together the lyrics to first single “Black Sun.” It’s a big, sweeping ballad with a whole lot of synth and guitars more processed than I’ve ever heard of them. They still sound like Death Cab For Cutie, largely because everything Ben Gibbard ever does, including the non-Death Cab stuff, will always sound at least a little bit like Death Cab. But this one is different, from the churning bass sound to the Edge-style guitar solo. the band’s just-announced tour dates “Black Sun” is the first single off of Death Cab for Cutie’s upcoming album Kintsugi, out March 31st

Opening the garden with a bang. Live from Madison Square Garden, New York City. January 22, 2015. Fleetwood Mac.

Rock legends Fleetwood Mac, who performed two sold-out shows at NYC’s Madison Square Garden earlier this week, have confirmed they will be adding at least 28 more dates to their already scheduled 40-city “ON WITH THE SHOW” tour. The announcement was made during the band’s live performance on NBC’s TODAY Show where The Mac performed for thousands of adoring fans. Fleetwood Mac is currently performing with their five star lineup including the returning songbird Christine McVie who rejoined the band following a 16 year absence.
The principal emotion during the nearly 2 1/2-hour performance was the joy of having keyboardist McVie back in this group… She brought high harmonies and several songs, including ‘Little Lies,’ ‘You Make Loving Fun’ and the closing ‘Songbird,’ back into the repertoire.Stevie Nicks hasn’t sounded this good since the early ‘90’s. What a rhythm machine and what an articulate emotional guitarist Lindsay Buckingham is live.
“It’s still magical. Between Buckingham’s epic guitar solos, Mick Fleetwood’s massive drumming, John McVie’s strong bass work, Nicks’ patented spins to punctuate the lovely ‘Gypsy’ and Christine McVie’s lush vocals, Fleetwood Mac looked ready to take on what Buckingham has called ‘the next chapter.
With Christine’s songs back in the set, her calm, angular presence back on the stage, there was an undeniable feeling of rejuvenation. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie on bass reminded concert-goers why the band is named for them… They still put a layer of muscle behind everything the band did… Buckingham was ferocious and tireless as lead guitar. This man is a vital musical presence – the soul of the band. Ditto for the vitality of Nicks, its cauldron-stirring spirit… Her showcase songs, ‘Landslide,’ ‘Gold Dust Woman’ and, especially ‘Silver Springs,’ were the night’s highlights.

Dear Mr. Fantasyis a rock song by Traffic from their 1967 album, Mr. Fantasy. An extended live version of the song also appears on the 1971 Traffic album “Welcome to the Canteen. The lyrics were written by Jim Capaldi, while the music was written by Steve Winwood and Chris Wood.

Stephen Stills sings the lead and plays lead guitar. I don’t have the liner notes so I am not sure who is on organ – it could be Stills, Nash, Joe Vitale, Mike Finnegan, or Paul Harris. They are all credited to the album. Graham Nash fills in on the harmony vocals while David Crosby is missing in action. Stills also adds his own verse in the process of this recording. Crosby, Stills,  & Nash  version added two new verses to their original’s lyrics

Each time you choose to sing the rock & roll blues,
you take everybody’s loneliness with you.
What do you lose each time you face down a room?
All of us see our changes through you.
So sing of the ocean of tears you have sailed,
Strangers and lovers that took you.
All of us sang, and all of us failed.
In one way we don’t ever hear you.

This song was recorded in 1980, however, it remained unreleased until 1991 when it appeared on two compilation CDs:  “CSN” (the boxed set) and “Carry On.” It is quite a bit heavier than Traffic’s original recording from 1967 which is below. While I appreciate this rendition, it would be hard for anyone to improve on the  Traffic original.

The new album from the Swedish Indie Folk sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg delivers on the promise of the incredible The Lion’s Roar” and then some. with their third released album. That album’s producer, Mike Mogis, returns for “Stay Gold” — and brings a 13-piece orchestra to fittingly and flawlessly support the sisters’ soaring, airy vocals.Mike Mogis, who worked on the band’s previous album, The Lion’s Roar. The album was released in June 2014 in mainland Europe and the following week elsewhere.

According to an interview in Swedish TV webpage, the album is more about their own lives than their previous ones. “That one has to learn appreciate what is and that all flows, that nothing stays “Stay Gold” introduced new elements to First Aid Kit’s music, such as a 13-piece orchestra. Their previous albums had been produced in such a way that would allow the band to perform with 3 people on stage, however these limitations have been lifted to give the band a bigger, more fulfilling sound.

The album has been well received by most music critics, noted that the album is “noticeably more expansive than any of their previous work”, and “has a rich texture of classic country instrumentation and stirring string arrangements, matching their soaring vocal melodies. The larger sound that came from the band utilising more instruments, as well as the sister’s “new-found, beefed up timbres”. It also described the album as poised to knock you for six this summer, aimed at cracking the United States, making the kind of wide-eyed, ‘70s-tinged folk-rock that thrives on soaring vocals, warm harmonies, big choruses, and heart-on-sleeve lyrics.
