I was super excited when I recently saw that Late Cambrian released a new music video for the song Lover’s Point, the opening track from their most recent album Peach. It happens to be one of my favorite songs from the album!

The video opens with the band in separate areas of what appears to be a junk yard of some sort. The animal pelt costumes were a unique twist as you saw chalk images being made on containers. My favorite part of the video is towards the end when you see what all the chalk drawings turned into on the container as it was really cute!

I definitely enjoyed the video for its unique concept as it fit the song well. I look forward to seeing more Late Cambrian videos especially from their upcoming album Golden Time .

Shelflife Records presents the Sunshine Hair EP from Goodly Thousands, coming March 24th on limited 7″ vinyl and digital formats.

The EP is the follow up to the nearly sold out debut 7″ “Honest / I Wish,” which has earned a great deal of praise from guitar pop fans worldwide. We’re happy to say this EP continues right where they left off. The four songs are filled with their classic pop goodness that will absolutely knock your socks off! Lovely Bryds-y guitar lines, jangly rhythms, and Colm’s perfectly crafted vocal melodies will make this one release you do not want to miss!

The band started in 2010 in the small town of Dundrum, Ireland and since then have relocated to Dublin. Colm writes all the songs, plays guitar and sings, Aaron plays drums and Darren plays bass. Fiachra McCarthy, at Heftrax studio in Dublin, did the recording and mixing and contributed a couple of extra bits of guitar and percussion. The songs are all written about single moments in time in Dublin over the past six years. “If people listen hard they might catch where exactly I’m talking about…,” says Colm, “but you might have to be from here. Jangly guitars though, are for everyone.”

Late Cambrian

When we first heard a few songs from the Brooklyn band Late Cambrian, we knew that we were listening to one of the great new under-the-radar indie bands of the year. Beginning with the latest songs from their newest release, we eagerly listened to the band’s back catalog of enjoyable singles, brimming with glorious power pop hooks, driving rhythms and harmony-lush choruses.

It’s the music that ultimately matters, and Late Cambrian have proven themselves, after four years of hard work and a growing discography, as a band to watch in 2015. Their latest album, “Golden Time”, released in January, is busting at the seams with amazingly melodic, uptempo songs. The title track is a great example thanks to a collision of blazing guitars and rhythms, soaring synths and perfectly delivered vocals.

Since its release last fall, the “Golden Time” single has received over 10,000 plays and more than 120 hearts on Soundcloud alone and scored a No. 1 spot on OurStage. The video for “Golden Time” was also the featured video of the month. Those are pretty good indications of the band’s trajectory as they win one fan at a time.

Late Cambrian’s frontman, songwriter and vocalist, John N. Wlaysewski, says the title track of their new album is really starting to catch on not just for how terrific it sounds, but also because of the lyrics. “It’s a song about a teenager’s perspective on clubs, looking from the outside in,” he said.

Another track, “Throwing Shade,” leaps right out of the speakers and demands attention. It’s fantastic guitar riff is one that Wlaysewski had been working on for some time, and waiting for just the right song to pair it to. “I’ve been wanting to make a slower groove-oriented song for a while,” he said, “and this is the first one.” “Throwing Shade,” he said, tells the story about “the weird mind games couples play with each other as a relationship is ending,” adding, “sometimes people see they have mental and emotional control over the other partner, and then use it to screw with their emotions.”

Golden Time marked a huge leap forward for the band sonically, Wlaysweski said. “The album was a big sonic departure for us. I really wanted to incorporate more modern sounds, synths and samples. I wanted the band to experiment more with structure. I’d been listening to a lot of Phoenix’s Bankrupt while we recorded this.” He said that the band members are all big fans of Weezer, Pinkerton, The Strokes and other acclaimed bands.

The band’s well-honed power pop energy, interesting and existential lyrics and soaring melodies accompanied by sweet vocal harmonies and fuzzy guitar riffs became more apparent on their sophomore release, PEACH, with songs like “Lovers Point” and “Ryan Gosling.”

Wlaysewski said that “Ryan Gosling,” named after the famous actor, is one of the band’s most well-known tracks, which is not surprising since it has a catchy, infectious melody and “woah-oh-oh” chorus, making it a perfect sing-along track. The song “details the struggle to make a meaningful connection with another human being in a fleeting New York City night life,” Wlaysweski said, while “Lover’s Point,” his personal favorite from PEACH, is “an incredibly romantic song for me…it’s about young love and having that feeling again when you’re older.”

The band’s discography offers one musical highlight after another. Taken all together, it’s easy to see why they were voted the best new artist of 2014 in a listeners’ poll. Late Cambrian has all of the makings of a breakout band that should kick up another notch in 2015 as more indie rock listeners in the U.S. hear their tracks.

The Luxembourg Signal has evolved from the remnants of the band Aberdeen, which after a long and bumpy road dissolved back in 2003. Several years and several bands- including Fonda and Trembling Blue Stars- and a few reunions later, Johnny Joyner, Beth Arzy and Brian Espinosa began a project with Betsy Moyer and Ginny Pitchford to create a spacier, noisier, and more mature sound that occasionally harkens back to their early 90s roots.

Piecing together almost 10 years of ideas, and nabbing any recording time possible with the now London-based Beth Arzy, their long overdue self-titled first album will be out on Shelflife Records summer 2014.

To expect The Luxembourg Signal’s eponymous album to be a succession of sad songs or a mere return to familiar sounds quickly proves wrong though. Sure, this release offers just the right amount of darkness (enough to make you long for a lingering hug), but there are also a number of uplifting, danceable songs, as well as elements of shoe gaze, which transform this album into a noisier experience than the previous projects’ creations. In lieu of this diversity, the album really needs to be played several times in order to be fully appreciated. Beth Arzy’s beautiful vocals and the well-crafted melodies that reign supreme are the north star that will repeatedly guide you through these 10 exceptionally fine songs.

You will hear a vocal appearance by Aberdeen’s John Girgus on ‘First Light,’ Daniel Kumiega lends guitar on ‘Let it Go,’ and special guest Dale Crover (The Melvins) also generously contributes the heavier drum sound on ‘Drowning.’

Leicester duo now based in London Lusts, who are comprised of siblings Andy and James Stone—have a sound lost in the hazy reverb of the late 80’s and early 90s.  Their music is a bit reminiscent of  Jesus and The Mary Chain, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Ride coaxed into a delirious three way. If this were 25 years ago, they would have to have been signed to Creation Records!  Be sure to check out their new track “Mouthwash” with its swashes of shoegaze infused pop and reverb-laced guitar licks on ‘Mouthwash’ leaving you’re ears to soak in its atmospheric landscape. the band recently supported Coves.

King Dude & Chelsea Wolfe reunite to create another seven inch song of collaborative songs entitled “Sing More Songs Together…”. Like a goth version of Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra/ Dead Can Dance tribute band/ Nick Cave and PJ Harvey fantasy album” Its Like kindred spirits were meant to find each other in this and in many lives past. I always marvel at how Chelsea’s music fits the events in my life at the time it is released. And when her magical sensibility is combined with King Dude’s je ne sais quoi, the resulting music is catchy, brooding, soothing, and stirring. The track “Bed on Fire” is to die for .

This Gainesville, Fla., band sits precisely at the intersection of what the genre police would call “indie rock” and “electronica.” As Hundred Waters has gained fame since the release of its first album two years ago, the quartet’s tour pairings have reflected its ability to win equal appreciation from music-hungry festival goers of different tastes. Two years ago, they were out with Skrillex, and they just wrapped a fall tour with Interpol. Though the record in no way sounds distinctly Southern, Hundred Waters do show their Central Florida roots a bit on the first cut of “The Moon Rang Like a Bell”: “Show Me Love.” You hear the multi-tracked voice of lead vocalist Nicole Miglis singing harmony with herself and delivering lines like “Don’t let me show cruelty, though I may make mistakes / Don’t let me show ugliness, though I know I can hate.” The whole thing rings like a hymn and serves as a fine beginning to a hypnotic electronic record.

Wolf Alice have shared their beguiling visual accompaniment to the track “Giant Peach”, and it’s got everything: bar brawling, lute solos, and the Dad from My Parents Are Aliens. Tony Gardner takes the role of a douchebag manager, who winds up hitting the bottle pretty hard (kind of). Ewen Macintosh (Keith from The Office) also makes an appearance.

Wolf Alice‘s lead vocalist Ellie Rowsell explains the surreal concept: “Here we are trying out our questionable acting skills once again. It’s almost a sequel to our video “Fluffy” and a look in to the future of Wolf Alice – featuring lots of leather, hip thrusting, murder and a very naughty manager. Special thank you to Tony Gardner for being a hero.”My Love Is Cool” will be out via Dirty Hit Records on 22nd  June. Check out the “Giant Peach”
