“Yung’s music is a space of innocence and experience, beauty and pain, darkness and light. Frontman Mikkel Holm Silkjær embodies opposites, too: His music showcases both his maturity as a songwriter and his youth, as he relies on more than a decade of songwriting experience despite being only 21. Both of Silkjær’s parents are musical; they put him behind a drum set at the age of 4 and introduced him to the local punk scene as a teen. Since then, he has become something of a leader in the Danish DIY scene, playing in gritty hardcore and punk bands and running a record label for like-minded local bands in his hometown of Aarhus, Denmark. Yung, however, is a more personal project for Silkjær, in which he steps away from the heaviness of earlier bands but manages to keeps his sense of urgency and angst.”

‘Pills’ is taken from A Youthful Dream, the debut album Yung

Roskilde: 25 June - 2 July, Roskilde, Denmark

Northside: 17-19 June, Jutland, Denmark

Copenhagen’s Communions are inextricably tangled up with the Danish scene that spawned bands like Iceage, Lower, Vår, and Lust For Youth: Communions share a rehearsal space with the former two bands (among others), and they have released music on Posh Isolation, the label owned by Loke Rahbek, who is a member of the latter two bands. But Communions do not sound anything like any of those bands. For my money, they are so much better! When I listen to Communions, I can hear some early Real Estate, some La’s, some Go-Betweens, but it reminds me of nothing so much as the Stone Roses’ 1989 debut — which is about the highest praise I can think of. The band’s self-titled debut EP (following a pair of 7″ singles) is full of warm gusts of spindly, spider-y guitars and heavy-lidded, heavenly vocals, all soaked in good LSD and set to bubbling, effortless, joyous rhythms. Very Manc for a band from Copenhagen.Watch the music video from Communions for ‘Forget It’s a Dream’ of their latest record ‘Communions EP‘ out worldwide on Tough Love Records and in Japan on Big Love Records.

Bella Union is very pleased to welcome Danish-quintet Lowly to their roster of excellent artists.

Their new EP ’Sink Way Into Me’ will be released on limited edition vinyl and digitally on Friday 30th October, featuring the new single ‘Fire’, which you can listem too here. Lowly appeared out of nowhere in April 2014 with the release of the bewitching ‘Daydreamers’ The sound, already so rich and full, was like being put under a magical spell.

Initially brought together- in hindsight I’d suggest by a visionary alchemist-purely to fulfil part of a short music project at the school they all attended, Nanna, Thomas, Steffen, Kasper and Soffie immediately found the chemistry so many musicians search years to find.

The individual influences of each, so different it seemed to begin with, truly give Lowly that unique sound, one that has been developing over the course of the last year. Recent shows and festivals have been received ecstatically and we were lucky enough to witness one of those performances at Spot Festival earlier this year. Simon Raymonde commented that simply, Lowly are one of the best young bands i have seen live in a long time. The music is at times intricate yet deep and sensual, the fascinating rhythms of drummer Steffen a perfect counterpoint to the gorgeous melodies of Soffie and Nanna. The overall effect of this in tandem with the liquid bass and keyboard lines creates a set that has you on the verge of crying and dancing all at the same time. There isn’t a band out there today like them, which is thrilling. To make music that is both emotional and influential at this early stage, shows that Lowly a band of limitless possibilities.

LOWLY will be visiting these shores in November to play a handful of shows.

Danish four-piece Communions have announced details of a new EP. Communions will be released on Tough Love Records on Monday 1st June. There will be two vinyl pressings – one on black vinyl, the other on blue available only from the Tough Love store (now sold out). Communions – ‘Summer’s Oath EP’: Tough love signings Communion are one of a raft of new acts on the London label doing exciting things at the moment (see also: Danish oiks Yung and punk-tinged outfit Cruising) and ‘Summer’s Oath’ is a good taster of why. With a large hint of The Cure’s brooding noir-pop, their sound is hooky but hard-edged.
The listing of the EP is as follows:

1. Forget it’s a Dream
2. Wherever
3. Restless Hours
4. Summer’s Oath
5. Out of My World

The EP is their second release on Tough Love Records, following the release of AA-side single So Long Sun/Love Stands Still at the end of 2014. The limited 7” sold-out and Pitchfork were quick to praise the A-side and hone in on their musical influences: “The song oozes effervescent warbles—from vocalist Martin Rehof, and the interplay of shimmering guitars, and lovely crescendos of reverb, reminiscent of early Stone Roses.”

Communions, is made up of brothers Martin and Mads Rehof, Jacob van Deurs Formann and Frederik Lind Köppen, are fast-gaining attention for their transcendent melodies, delicate guitar lines and emotive pop songs about naivety and youth.

Yung – Blanket/Burning Bodies – 7″ vinyl
Limited to 500 copies (400 black/100 white)
Released 24th July 2015 this Danish four-piece Yung’s furious apathy anthem Nobody Cares immediately hooked me on their sound — urgent punk with snarl and fuzz. After the release of their Alter EP in March, they’ve followed up with “Blanket,” a warm, nostalgic tangle that’ll take you back to all the summer camp nights you spent oceanside, gazing up at stars. This song is like a reel of memory played out with melodic, bewildering passion. .

“Blanket” b/w “Burning Bodies” is out 7/24 digitally and as limited run of 500 vinyl copies via Tough Love Records.

Danish prog space rock outfit Mew have shared another song off their new album +/- (Plus Minus) which is out April 28th. “Water Sides” shows off the band’s more ethereal side and you can let it wash over you here, Mew is a Danish alternative rock band, consisting of Jonas Bjerre (lead vocals), Bo Madsen (guitar), Johan Wohlert (bass) and Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen (drums). Johan Wohlert left the band in 2006 before the birth of his first child, but made a return in 2013 while the band were in the studio, before making his first live appearances since his departure in 2014.

Whilst their music may be classified as indie and on occasion progressive rock, the band’s guitarist Bo Madsen said “I usually say we are ‘indie stadium.’ A mix between ‘feelings’ and ‘thinking’ is usually good, The band announced on 19th January 2015 that the sixth album, + –, will be released on 27 April through Play It Again Sam. They also released the first single off the album called “Satellites”. Mew has been announced to play South by Southwest in Austin, Texas on March 18, 2015.

Live performance of Agnes Obel’s single ‘The Curse’ taken from the new album ‘Aventine’.Agnes Obel’s touring band currently consists of one, some or all of the following musicians…
Anne Müller – cello, guitar, melodica, backing vocals, Mika Posen – Violin, backing vocals, Charlotte Danhier – cello, backing vocals, Sophie Bayot – Violin, Viola, backing vocals
Has it really been almost three years since Philharmonics? Agnes Obel’s debut album still sounds as fresh as a daisy. A delicate flower which became a quiet phenomenom, selling almost half a million copies to date. Philharmonics received a gold award in Holland, platinum awards in Belgium and France, and went quintuple platinum in her native state of Denmark, where Agnes won five Danish Music Awards (the Danish Brits) in 2011.

They say the sophomore album is the most difficult of all. You spend your whole life preparing the debut LP, but as soon as its out there, the clock starts ticking for the follow-up. So how did Agnes Obel, European Border Breakers prizewinner in 2012, succeed in avoiding the traditional pitfalls of album 2? .
Aventine is Agnes Obel putting things into perspective. A second album adds depth to the picture, otherwise the first record stands alone as a snapshot of brilliance without any real indication of where the journey is heading.

Formed in the summer of 2013 by 20 year old frontman Mikkel Holm Silkjær (guitar, vocals) in the north of AarhusDenmark’s second largest city and what locals would say, the current punk rock capital – along with friends Frederik Nybo Veile (drums), Tobias Guldborg Tarp (bass) and Emil Zethsen (guitar), Yung have spent the past year building up a formidable live reputation in their native Denmark. As their name would suggest, the four piece play with a youthful exuberance and feverish energy that leaves little chance to catch your breath.

Growing out of Mikkel’s teenage dreams and the harsh reality of what is the everyday life of young adulthood, their debut international release,” Alter”, serves as both a vehicle for, and an escape from, the bewildered frustration of having to deal with life’s treadmill – trying to find a tolerable and meaningful place in the world, whilst wasting time at useless jobs in order to enjoy whatever little freedom that’s left; to hang out with friends; and, first and foremost, devote time to music. It’s no coincidence that “Alter” was written and recorded just two months after the band formed
Fresh out of Copenhagen, Yung are one of Scandinavia’s hottest new prospects, with apparently “hundreds” of songs already written and ready to go. If Iceage covering Nirvana sounds like your thing, then check out ‘Nobody Cares’.
“Alter” is released on March 2nd through Tough Love Records on limited edition 12” vinyl and digital formats. NOTE TO COLLECTORS – 100 copies will be available on red vinyl ONLY from the Tough Love Store.
