This is the first time this great psychedelic album is being released in the US, and it comes with 3 bonus tracks. “The songs are built on acoustic guitars, then the tricked-out electric guitars are laid on top and garnished with bongos, organs, pianos, and all sorts of classic instruments. Stephen Lawrie’s vocals are restrained and semi-emotional and female backing vocals add a touch of sweetness that might otherwise be missing from the record, as the overall atmosphere is very moody and introspective.”

One of the most influential bands ever to come out of the UK, The Jesus & Mary Chain, recently announced they are ready to release their first new album in almost two decades next year. Their first piece of new music in a decade, a new single entitled ‘Amputation’.

Fans of the band will likely be struck by how similar in style and sound ‘Amputation’ is to the band’s early and mid-’90s, post-Psychocandy output. The song could pass for a cut off the band’s warmly received 1992 album, Honey’s Dead, with its walls of guitar noise paired with a mechanical-sounding drum loop.

Creation Records, the iconic UK label that signed the band in 1984 and put out their first single, Alan McGee, the band’s manager and the founder of Creation Records, said, “It’s a big deal! It’s unbelievable. They’ve just made an album and I’ve signed them to Warners!” “The Jesus And Mary Chain will be dropping their new record March 2017.. on Warners the label wrote. The band, who have not released an album since 1998’s Munki, have dubbed their first album in some 18 years Damage And Joy. .

Slowdive EP is 25 years old. It was released by Creation Records on November 5th, 1990.

When the band reformed for 2014, it seemed obvious to us to start our live shows by playing the Slowdive EP at the top of the set list. It sets out where we originally came from, and sets the scene for where we were going. And to celebrate that, we’d like to present a free live recording of “Avalyn”, performed during our USA / Canada tour last year. We are currently working on releasing the entire live set from that tour as a collection, so look out for news of that soon.

Vocals / Guitar – Neil Halstead
Vocals – Rachel Goswell
Guitar – Christian Savill
Bass Guitar – Nick Chaplin
Drums – Simon Scott

Song written by Halstead/Goswell/Savill/Chaplin/Sell

The Jesus and Mary Chain, whose brand of psychedelic noise rock remains hugely influential, are to perform their classic album Psychocandy in its entirety on tour this November. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the album, and this tour will signify the beginning of “a host of live onslaughts, festival dates and other special plans from the band”, according to a press release.
“Psychocandy” was meant to be a kick in the teeth to all of those who stood in our way at the time, which was practically the whole music industry,” said Jim Reid in a statement. “In 1985 there were a great many people who predicted no more than a six month life span for the Mary Chain. To celebrate the approaching 30th anniversary of the album, we would like to perform it in it’s entirety. We will also perform key songs from that period that did not feature on the album.”
The riotous shoegaze band will hit the road in November to perform their debut album in its entirety
The Title of the album itself sums up the band’s sonic style: the group blended sugary girl-group sweetness and insane power on songs, where chugging guitars get swamped by feedback, leaving Reid’s rather pretty voice surfing on top. Their sound helped carve the shoegaze sound of the late 80s and early 90s, and their influence can clearly be heard in contemporary bands like Tame Impala and The Horrors (who also borrowed their leather wardrobe).
Alan McGee, the boss of their label Creation Records, said: “When they released this album in 1985 they were the best band in world this is just a fact. A truly seminal rock n roll band, without them so many other bands after them would have never found there way forwards in a musical sense. The first band I ever worked with that I loved and 30 years later still love.”
The band will play London’s Troxy on 19 November, Manchester Academy on 20 November, and Glasgow Barrowlands on 21 November.
