The demise of the label Fortuna Pop, which we’re still not okay about by the way – has left a number of superb bands, musically homeless. At the top of the list of bands we didn’t think would have to rough it outside for long were The Spook School, and this week they’ve announced they’ve found a new home on Alcopop Records. The band’s third album, Could It Be Different?, is out early next year, and the Glasgow-based quartet have this week shared their new single, Still Alive.

A live favourite, with a chorus so catchy it’s been in our head almost constantly since The Spook School’s set at End Of The Road, Still Alive, is a fuzzy and furiously energetic slice of hook-laden pop. Discussing the track, Nye Todd has suggested it is, “about no longer being in an abusive relationship”It’s a track that’s laced with anger at abusers, but also pride, as Nye explains, “I think there’s a kind of pride in it as well though, recognition that you had the strength to get through a shitty situation and to do what you needed to do, and that you don’t need to feel shame”. Confident, inspiring and as catchy as ever, The Spook School sound more alive than ever.

‘Could It Be Different?‘ out January 26th on Alcopop! Records

PEANESS - Are You Sure?

Three-piece indie-pop band Peaness release their new EP Are You Sure? via Alcopop! Records on a ‘Mellow Yellow’ vinyl, strictly limited to 500, packaged with their debut EP No Fun and another bonus track on the B Side

Of the title track, an ode to none other than controversial MP for Tatton George Osbourne, the band are pretty clear as to where they found their influence for this song… Jess (lead vocalist) says “Un-inspired by ex-chancellor tory tyrant, George Osbourne and his crappy red briefcase, when at the time we thought things couldn’t get worse. How naive.”

BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and Radio X have all championed the band with growing support from national press including Clash, The Skinny Magazine, Upset and more – with a full page in Kerrang Magazine introducing the band popping up last week. Selling like proverbial hot cakes of DIY-goodness, pre-orders of their latest single ‘Same Place’/‘Seafoam’ on Oddbox Records sold out in just two days, with the repress selling out in a week, and the band have revealed a string of UK festival appearances for summer 2017 including 2000 Trees, TRUCK, Indietracks, Focus Wales and more.

Ahead of their March headline tour, Weirds have released a new music video.

The Leeds psych-grunge band’s new single is taken from their debut album which is due out later this year via Alcopop! Records. Speaking of their new track, frontman Aidan Razzall explained: “’Valley of Vision’ was one of the first songs we wrote for the record. We wanted to create a pop song, and make it big, heavy and mysterious. We try to craft our songs in simple structures, and it came together pretty much in one night in our basement.”

Catch Weirds live at the following shows before they head to Camden Rocks and 2000 Trees Festival this summer:

Check out the band local dates in MARCH.

“I Am The Hot Air”
Taken from the brand new EP ‘Luge Lessons’ released on Alcopop Records on Oct 16th
Produced, filmed and edited by Get Inuit,  Kent based indie-rockers who understand the raw power of simplicity. Signed to Alcopop Records, One of XFM’s One’s To Watch of 2015 and a red hot favourite of our pal Huw Stephens, this is Get Inuit, fresh from the industrial town of Sittingbourne! Full of fresh-picked hits which fizz and pop throughout – their debut 7″ is an effervescent slice of indie-pop that flirts with darker off-kilter, math-rock-esque tendencies! In other words, it’s bloody brilliant!

Get Inuit have just released their debut EP 001 with a full-length tentatively scheduled for next summer. It sees the group combine the bouncy indie and punk influence of their Alcopop brethren with the surf-pop sway of Vampire Weekend and their ilk – despite the fact that, as the band are eager to point out, ‘none of us can actually surf’.
