The Blessed Isles

Brooklyn’s The Blessed Isles  have given us the video premiere for ‘Caroline’ the lead track from their debut LP Straining Hard Against the Strength of Night which is forthcoming on Saint Marie Records. Watch it below, its evocative tidal wave of shimmering guitars are sliced by the evocative hazy plaintive vocal harmonies of Aaron Closson. While beats and sensuous baselines erect modernistic dynamics within classic shoegaze sounds, like the expansive soundscapes of early M83 or Slowdive colliding with New Order‘s post-punk tremble and wistful melodies

Celebrating their tenth year in existence, San Francisco’s Echodrone wrap up 2015’s first instalment of Some Velvet Mixtape courtesy of awesome recent single ‘Glacial Place’. Taken from their long awaited and some would say well-overdue debut “Five”, released earlier this year on Saint Marie Records. Both band and song pretty much do what it says on the tin, creating six and a half minutes of ethereal bliss in the process.

SPC ECO — The Art of Pop
This shoegaze/electronic band pronounce it like “Space Echo” is centered around the pair of Dean Garcia (of Curve fame) and his daughter Rose Berlin. They’ve been crazily prolific over the last four or five years. This is their fifth full-length album in as many years and they’ve also done a boatload of singles and EPs. Dean also has a couple of other side projects. This one is quite different from the rest, though. SPC ECO has been trademarked by Dean’s guitars and walls of sound, but this album doesn’t have guitars at all. It’s all electronic even when it sounds guitar-ish. And it’s great. But we expect nothing less than greatness from Garcia and Berlin.
This is another of the fantastic releases from Saint Marie Records this year.

Secret Shine are a shoegaze-inspired indie dream pop band from Bristol. Current line up; Jamie Gingell, Scott and Dean Purnell, Kathryn Smith and Tom Adams.
was formed in November 1990 by vocalist Jamie Gingell and ex-Panda Pops guitarist Scott Purnell; originally dubbed Amelia’s Dream, the duo recorded a three-song demo which they mailed to the influential indie label Sarah Records, who agreed to issue a single, “After Years,” by this time the group had rechristened itself Secret Shine, expanding to a quintet with the additions of bassist Paul Vowles, drummer Nick Dyte and Purnell’s guitarist brother Dean. “Ephemeral” followed on Sarah in the spring of 1992, and after adding vocalist Kathryn Smith, Secret Shine issued the gorgeous “Loveblind,” their lone single to crack the UK Indie Top 20.Than God EP, The band re-formed in 2006.
