In 2013, Chilean psych-rockers the Holydrug Couple put out the swirling, spaced-out LP “Noctuary” on Sacred Bones. Gabriela once wrote that Sacred Bones artists sound like they’re always “hanging out together in some dark cave,” and she’s right. But if the Holydrug Couple are huddled in that deep cavern, they’re the ones closest to the opening, gazing heavenward at a glittering aurora borealis. That’s what the appropriately named “Dreamy,” the first single from the band’s upcoming album, “Moonlust”, resembles: an endless expanse of colorful night sky. But this new taste of the Holydrug Couple definitely grooves more than anything on Noctuary. Maybe members Ives Sepúlveda and Manuel Parra were jamming to some soul artists during the recording process? The band shouted out both Aretha Franklin and Air as inspirations, which does suggest “Moonlust” will transcend its predecessor’s neon-psych bubble.

New York-based Amen Dunes’ has announced news of a companion EP to follow the release of his critically acclaimed album ‘Love’, which came out earlier this year via Sacred Bones. Entitled ‘Cowboy Worship’, the forthcoming record is an attempt to give life to some of the music that played a crucial part to the creation of ‘Love’. It’s set for release on Jan 19th and new track ‘Song To The Siren’, taken from the EP,

The Holydrug Couple, have done a lot of growing since their first release with Sacred Bones Records in 2011. The “couple,” consisting of Ives Sepúlveda and Manuel Parra recorded Noctuary in Santiago, Chile. They put together a home studio and recorded the entire album themselves, from start to finish. Feeling that no one else had been able to capture their sound, Ives decided to take a risk and produce and engineer the album on his own. After four months of obsessively working and barely leaving the house, Ives emerged with a final product of which the band is truly proud. All of this hard work has manifested in a more elaborated, astral sounding album than its predecessor, Awe. While Awe and theirAncient Land EP had a bluesier, woodsy sound, Noctuary plays out like a slow motion 60’s beach party dream that you never want to wake from.

This is not your typical motorik beat kraut album; rather it sounds more like a breezy take on Love or Beau Brummels. The way that songs like “Willoweed” and “Paisley” flow seamlessly into one another, it is easy to see how listeners will become entranced by this new, dream-like world that The Holydrug Couple have created. These two stand-out tracks, as well as “Follow Your Way” really exemplify the growth of this band and signify the new direction they’re headed in.

The Holydrug Couple

With a sound that evokes the dreamlike natural wonders of their homeland, duo the Holydrug Couple are a part of the burgeoning psychedelic rock scene rising out of Chile. Based in Santiago, members Ives Sepúlveda and Manuel Parra have cultivated a drifting, bluesy sound that weaves a gentle, repetitive tapestry of guitar, drums, and vocals around the listener, softly enveloping them in layers of melody. The pair made their debut in 2011 with their first LP, the self-released Awe, before quickly getting the attention of the eclectic, Brooklyn-based label Sacred Bones, where they released their “Ancient Land” EP.

The new EP is out on May 13th on Sacred Bones label titled “LOVE” Amen Dunes is the project of Damien McMahon psych Folk Pop the video is a foggy clips around the streets of Montreal
