Their previous single ‘Real’ dropped in February last year, and since we’ve had Years & Years pretty much on replay Well today the popular trio have treated us to the new single, ‘Take Shelter’.

Take Shelter’ takes place in a forest and sees the band follow a mysterious girl splattered in paint and clad in a coat of matted wool and hair through the trees. Lead vocalist Olly Alexander explained the meaning behind the track: “The song is about a relationship, how I felt manipulated by somebody but sort of liked it.” Years & Years is an English electronica trio founded in London,  The group consists of frontman and keyboardist Olly Alexander, bassist Mikey Goldsworthy and synth player Emre Turkmen. Years & Years’ music has been described as electro pop, mixing R&B and ’90s house elements, with Flying Lotus, Diplo, Radiohead and Jai Paul being their core influences

Leaf Erikson’s debut release, ‘Flying High’, comes with some laidback vibes and meandering guitars but there is an 80s pop slickness to this tune as well which creates a marvellously original sound. Thankfully January 2015 finally brings closure as their reincarnation of the band Leaf Erikson share their first single ‘Flying High’. Significantly more mellow, this new direction holds a lot of promise as its jazzy guitar lines slink over a blossoming percussive backdrop before flowering in to a gorgeous little number. Hopefully the first of many great tracks to come.

London quintet Liu Bei are premiering their new visuals for gorgeous cut “Fields”, featuring the pipes of Rachel Goswell of shoegaze veterans Slowdive.

A heady potion, combining ambient synths, soundscapes and a sense of melody normally reserved for hook-riddled pop, “Fields” will drag you under the waves by the scruff of your neck. It’s an astonishing slice of melancholia, littered with nuanced beauty – slowly rising string swells, a solitary violin serenade, Rachel Goswell’s impeccable harmonies – that always sounds like its building to a crest.leaving you emotionally bruised and still holding our breath.

Liu Bei‘s upcoming “Goodness” EP is due out 2nd February 2015 via Museumgoer,

Three sisters from North London, Did somebody order a British Haim? Well, that’s what we’ve got. Meet Jagaara, three sisters from Finchley in London – not to be confused with the Staves, three sisters from Watford. The Staves were more folkie anyway, whereas  Jagaara are more Fleetwood Mac than Joni Mitchell. They share managers with Foals and Peace, and although they are as yet unsigned, there is a lot of A&R interest, and you can see why: they play classic west coast pop in an even more unreconstructed way than Haim, minus the overt nods to R&B, although there’s a knowingness to their nostalgia that elevates them above tribute-band status. They’re the girls of summer and beyond.

Jane – lead vocals, electric, acoustic guitar
Ruth – vocals, electric guitar
Cat – vocals, keys/synth, percussion

Joined live by Tom Varrall on bass and Glyn Daniels on drums

VAULTS – ” Vultures “

London trio Vaults deal in slow-build pop. They’re not half as spooky as they try and make out. They’ve supported London Grammar, and the more accessible moments on this three-track EP are similar to the chart-topping threesome.  The orchestral, R&B-tinged ‘Vaults’ is the best thing here, and the band have a certain way with original sounds.

Soulful synth-pop trio Years & Years have come top of the BBC Music Sound Of 2015 list, which highlights the best new artists for the year ahead. The list was compiled using tips from 139 UK-based critics, broadcasters and bloggers. Previous winners include Adele, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J.

The London group supported last year’s winner Sam Smith on tour in 2014.

Singer Olly Alexander said coming top of the list “means we’ve got a real shot” at making an impact. “People are going to listen to what we’re going to do, and we’ve just got to not muck it up,” he said. “We’ve got to make the most of it and deliver.” Years & Years, whose influences vary from Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell to Radiohead and TLC, have won over critics with a string of well-received singles.

“Years & Years” have already and will continue to capture imaginations with their electronic melodies and lively on stage sets,” said DJ Huw Stephens, who announced the band’s victory on BBC Radio 1.”They are a young band with loads of ideas and a clear vision of the music they want to make, and that will take them far this year.”

Sounding unlike anything they’ve released so far, Liu Bei’s latest track Goodness” is an extremely welcome step towards the mainstream for the London-based trio. Cinematic in scale, “Goodness” is an intense, momentum-filled anthem that’s big riffs, big drums and big vocals make for an epic listen.
