London outfit Divisionists announce their debut album and tease us with their first single ‘Say Can You’ they will be releasing their debut LP ‘Daybreak’ . The album will be released digitally and on vinyl via Mount Watatic Records. The accompanying video was animated by Xeth Feinberg of Distractionland and psych rock band The Prefab Messiahs .
‘Say Can You’
is a refreshing and upbeat track with hints of early Teenage Fanclub, The Lemonheads, Matthew Sweet and Bob Mould (including his project Sugar), albeit with softer vocals and much less feedback.

DIVISIONISTS ARE:
Brendan Quinn – guitar, lead and backing vocals, piano, organ
Rob McGregor – drums, percussion
Mark Bennett – guitar, synths, backing vocals
Mike Whitaker – bass, piano, backing vocals

Album number two from this trippy Velvet/Chills loving band. Not sure they’ve ever surpassed that first EP, but I love to hear them keep trying. Proper Ornaments is the project of James Hoare (Ultimate Painting, Veronica Falls) and Max Oscarnold (Toy, Pink Flames). The band germinated slowly from their friendship, which began when Max distracted James from shop-keeping, as his then girlfriend attempted to steal shoes. Max was freshly arrived in London from Buenos Aires.

The chance meeting blossomed into an epicurean riot of luminous highs and cold, dismal crashes that conversely produced music that was very well ordered and faintly angelic. It was so much deeper and more refined, serious, simple and affecting .

Just a quick one to tell you all that my new single Killing Me is now available EVERYWHERE*

Ethereal, passionate and moody. Luke Sital Singh’s is a voice of pure beauty. the 26-year-old Londoner is conquering hearts and minds with rousing and intense tunes fraught with heartache and candour, which carry the listener on an emotional roller coaster. It’s fragile, downtempo, and some might even say, gloomy.

It’s called Killing Me. It’s sad. There’s also a B-side called Darling. Less sad.
Please go listen, save, share, repeat.

London indie-pop super group Suggested Friends. With a handful of impressive singles, and unmissable, and very regular, live shows under their belt, they’re already well established figures on the London DIY Scene. With a new single coming about as part of the Odd Box Records 100 Club Series, 2017 might well be the year they step out into the world at large.

Thoroughly ragged and all the more charming for it, Suggested Friends’ recorded output seems to exist in a delightful fog of scuzz, never more evident than on upcoming single Chicken; it sounds a bit like it’s been recorded underwater until it hits the bombastic and brilliant chorus, and suddenly resolves into the most thrilling thing we’ve heard for years. Sure, they might not be the slickest band on this list but they might just be the most exciting

After their sold out show at London’s Scala last November, Island prepare to headline Heaven on the 3rd of May. An incredible feat when you consider they have released only a handful of singles to date. But then again it’s all part of this new indie bands commitment to dream big and release music independently, on their terms.

From their inception Island are a band that have always loved the unique and spontaneous connection of the live show. Their star began to ascend when they sold out Oslo two months in advance last April prompting the move to book 800 capacity Scala and now the infamous Heaven.

As an unsigned band still firmly at the start of their career, this is indicative of the momentum building behind the band and dedicated fan base.

The London quartet have swiftly broken into the public consciousness since teasing the tracks that would comprise their debut EP ‘Girl’ late 2014. Lead single Stargazer landed on the Spotify worldwide viral charts at no.7 clocking up 1.7 million streams. After a string of
high-profile festival dates and some Radio 1 backing – including some vocal support from Huw Stephens who proclaimed them “The band everyone is raving about,” the fervour surrounding the group is quickly
mounting and only the most habitual of cynics would deny that their ubiquitous appearances on 2017’s watchlists are assured.

ISLAND continue to deny any expected trajectory, their unstoppable presence in live, at radio and online is something impossible to ignore.

ISLAND are: Rollo Doherty (vocals, guitar), James
Wolfe (bass guitar), Jack Raeder (guitar), and Toby Richards (drums)

Beloved by Marc Riley and seemingly the entire blogosphere, Girl Ray are a hotly tipped quartet of North London teenagers. They recently released a BBC6Music playlist single, Trouble, is on the superb Moshi Moshi label, and while no album has been announced, we’d be amazed if 2017 isn’t a huge year for Girl Ray.

Led by singer Poppy Hankin, Girl Ray’s sound is a blend of indie pop and along with slick harmonies, only filtered through the sort of bedsit melancholy you’d associate with the 1980’s indie-pop heyday. Already seemingly well established despite only releasing a handful of singles, Girl Ray’s momentum seems as unstoppable as it is thoroughly deserved.

Within 30 seconds of putting Gutxi Bibang’s debut single on, he’d blown us away. Whoah! Jaw droppingly good. Wearing influences such as Hendrix, The Mooney Suzuki, Black Sabbath and Jet on his sleeve loud and proud, this is one seriously cool dude set to take rock n roll by storm.

Having formed back at the end of 2015, London quintet Totally have slowly amassed a fan base off the back of some lo-fi demos and some impressive support slots for the likes of Weaves and Haiku Salut. Back in December they released their debut single, “Falling Apart”, as part of the Art Is Hard Pin Pal Club, but as we head into 2017 we’re hoping to hear an awful lot more from this unclassifiable lot.

Featuring former members of Exlovers, Feathers, Jade, Laurel and Fliss spotted Susan playing drums as part of Pete Astor’s live band. They press-ganged her into joining their new project and the group later recruited bassist Franny to complete the line-up. Their early demos (recorded by Sauna Youth’s Lindsay Corstorphine) immediately caught the attention of several labels and promoters.

Totally cite a melting pot of influences from 60’s girl groups through to 90’s R&B, but ultimately they’ve created a sound much fresher, and more original than that might suggest. Falling Apart is a sparkling introduction to the band; The single retains the lo-fi versions’ dreamy harmonies and addictive quality with an added lushness and fuller sound.  Whilst we haven’t got an awful lot of music to go on just yet, the hype around these talented Londoner’s seems to be bubbling nicely, and whether it comes out this year or not, their debut album can surely be filed under unmissable.
